Chapter 1: "Avery what do you mean."

Chapter Text

It started off with the book saying “don’t turn left at the crossroads” but.. How did I end up here?

“Derek?!”

Avery yelled into the almost empty room, it would've been entirely empty if it weren't for Derek crouching on the floor, hunching over himself.

“Derek!,” Avery yelled, running to him, “holy crap! Derek, are you ok? What happened?!”

“Ughhh my head..”

“Derek what happened?” the concern evident in his voice.

“I’m fine Avery.. No need to worry.”

“Derek, what happened after you pushed me off? You have to tell me what on earth happened!”

“I’m fine Avery! Please stop worrying about me. It’s not like you owe me-”

“But I do! You saved me Derek.. If it weren’t for you I would’ve still been in that stupid church! Walking back and forth over and over planting flowers. If it weren’t for you I would’ve still been there for another 12 HOURS! If it weren’t for you I might not have even been alive right now…”

“Wait what?” confusion at this new found knowledge.

“Derek if it weren’t for you I would’ve still been walking back and forth, planting flowers, filling and emptying that well, then drowning myself for who knows how long!” Avery said, throwing his hands up ” the ONLY reason I'm not is because of the signs you placed by the door, the only reason I escaped that endless cycle is because of the two signs you placed.”

Avery looked away from Derek for a second then looked back and made eye contact with him.

“...Please Derek, let me help, or at least try..”

“..Fine”

“Thank you”

“I’m not sure how I'm even alive right now, letting the king use me as the vessel should have killed me as well as him, but company would be nice right now. Cause if I do still die I would rather not be alone”

“Ok, ok I think I can do that. Just give me the address and I’ll see if I can get there tonight!”

“Ok, thank you” derek said, admiring Avery's determination” one sec I just need to get it, my brains a bit of a mess right now”

“Yea that makes sense” Avery laughs a bit at the end

“Ok its 405 XXXX XX should be the fourth floor, the door should be unlocked but if it’s not just tell me and I’ll give you the door code, or well I’ll try”

“Huh..”

“You ok Avery? You don’t have to do it if it’s too far.”

“Oh no it’s not that at all, it’s just we live in the same apartment building” Avery replied “ Ok one sec I’ll be right there, bye for now!”

—--- Avery’s pov—---

I really need to hurry, I think my backpack has everything I could need. I just need to hope that Derek is still conscious…

Avery slips on his sandals and makes a break for the elevator.

Speaking out loud as he frantically presses the up button “ He said the fourth floor right? Yea, yea I think so”

After what feels like several minutes but was probably just a few seconds Avery finally asks “why in the world does the elevator have to be so slow?” Avery murmured to himself with concern dripping from his voice, concern and fear.

The fear that when he gets there he might be too late and Derek might already have passed.

“Beep”

“FINALLY” Realizing he just yelled at the top of his lungs in what was basically considered the middle of the night he then said “finally” in a much smaller tone.

Slipping into the elevator he pressed the button for the fourth floor and then once again frantically pressed the close button.

Once the elevator got to the fourth floor Avery raced out and ran down the hall

“405, where is 405” avery said to himself while slowing down to a speed walk until he saw the correct door and quickly broke into a sprint towards the door.

“Come on, come on! Please just open!” Avery yelled in his mind as the door opened.

“Yes!”

Slamming the door behind him, he started to look through every door until he came across when he finally gets to an open one with someone in it.

—--------------------

“Derlord? Sorry I mean Derek? Please tell me that’s you”

“Avery that you?” he says still looking at his screen, afraid if he looked away from it he'd have the mind splitting headaches that happen every time he tried in the past.

“Yea, yea it's me” relief spread through his body as he slowly walked forwards, towards Derek.

“Are you- are you ok?”

“I’m not sure”

“Ok.. one sec ill go get you water, lord knows you probably need it after being in front of your computer for so long, need anything else while i get you water?”

“No not really, but yea water would be great”

—-Derek’s pov—--

As Avery left the room Derek began to think to himself.

“Huh, he actually showed up. I thought he would've just logged off and that would be the last id ever here from him.. Nah Avery’s too kind for that, I mean he was willing to sacrifice the whole world just to be with me.” Derek frowned at something he remembered something Avery said before he was given Derek's address “But what did he mean when he said ‘I would’ve still been in that stupid church! Walking back and forth over and over planting flowers. If it weren’t for you I would’ve still been there for another 12 HOURS!’ I knew he would've gotten to the church, but was he really there for twelve hours?”

Before Derek could continue thinking on the matter, Avery said just before he got to the door way.

“I’m back!”

With the sudden noise Derek jerked his head back only for be shock to be the only thing evident on his face.

“Are you.. Ok? You look really shocked.”

“It doesn’t hurt. It doesn't hurt when I look away!”

“Huh”

“IT DOESN'T HURT!” he said grinning, excitement clear in his words and actions as he starts to run up to Avery squishing him in a hug while spinning him around.

“It doesn’t?”

“No it doesn’t! It doesn't hurt! It hasn't ‘not hurted’ in the last day or two!”

“That's amazing Derek!"

They stand consumed in the hug for a while, not caring about the water Avery spilt when Derek hugged him.

Finally Avery spoke up after several more minutes.

“Not to ruin the mood or anything but why is one of your eyes yellow”
