There he was, standing next to the entrance of one of the many convenience stores in his neighbor hood. 4 paper bags of groceries in hand, only one of which being for himself. Simon did pick up a habit of getting stuff for some of his older neighbors after he moved in. Especially the old lady living a floor above him that was around 80-ish years old. He didn't really know. That was none of his business, but he sure wont let her carry multiple bags of cat food all the way up to the forth floor, let alone 2 blocks to the apartment complex they lived at.
The issue right now was that it was raining... heavily. It was not on the weather report, so Simon was anything but prepared for that. He sighed calculating if he could just get from one building entrance to another and stay somewhat dry, but there wasn't really a point in trying. Better to just wait the rain out.
"Forgot an umbrella huh?" a now too familiar voice remarked a little snarky. With no one else around on the street Simon looked up and low and behold there he was. Sitting on the wall right above him was New Yorks favorite superhero. The not so graceful Spiderman himself, as Simon has gotten to call him. The guy has been showing up around Simon quite often lately and he wasn't really sure how to feel about that. At the very least it did not seem like he had an issue with him, rather the opposite. "Shoudn't you be out there helping people rather than making fun of me for not being prepared?" Simon countered.
Spidey looked down at him, laughed to himself and jumped down. "Technically what I am here for. Because it seems like you have trouble getting home through the rain, so I am here to help" he said, looking a little too proud of himself for Simon's liking. He has been dropped off at his apartment before more than enough by the guy, which at the very least hopefully isn't how he is going to help him here. Swinging through the rain rather than just walking seemed like a way easier way for them to get absolutely soaked and the groceries probably wouldn't survive as well.
"You really don't have anything better to do right now, huh?" "No, not really. Been a slow day somehow. So yeah, if you would like I can get you an umbrella or get the bags to your apartment. Although I am guessing that is why you are standing here in the first place rather than going home. So the umbrella would probably be the better idea. Probably don't wanna get the paper bags wet huh heh" Spiderman started to ramble... again, which Simon was surprisingly used to at this point. There still was only one other person that could get close to Spideys rambles and that was his neighbor. But that really wasn't important right now.
What was important was getting home, so he might as well accept the help. "Something is telling me that no matter what I say you are still going to do something" he noted. Looking at a now slightly surprised Spiderman who he just interrupted mid ramble. Simon could tell that whatever exact expression Spidey was making under the mask must be close to how Grace looks when he gets interrupted. Cute.
"You can just get an umbrella from my apartment. Probably easier than me having to somehow give it back to a guy I don't even know the actual name of. You should probably know my address by now and the window should be open, so you can figure it out. I really don't feel like being swung around today." Spidey still looked at him with the same expression as before to the plan he was given for just a second before going back to somewhat normal. "Right on it. Will be back in 2 minutes" and so he left
And back to standing alone in the rain. Sadly it did not clear even in the slightest during his strange encounter. Whatever god there was really wasn't on Simons side today. If he believed in one or not.
Spiderman was back just in time, handing Simon a blue umbrella with some stars on. That one did not belong to him. "The window was closed, so I asked your neighbor for one. The blonde guy. Was really friendly and all. Anyways, see you around. I gotta go and take care of something" and so he left in the same direction he came from, just as quickly as he had come back. Weird guy, Simon thought. He looked at the umbrella and of course it belongs to Grace. How could it not. So he made his way back home, starry umbrella in hand.
He went upstairs to give Mrs. Lawrence her groceries, heading back to his apartment and digging through his own. He did get Grace some snacks since some of his profs were giving him a hard time. Or rather his whole semester. With snacks and umbrella in hand he made his way over to Graces door and knocked.
A soaking wet Grace opened the door, looking a little out of breath. "Oh hey Simon. What brings you to me?" he said leaning against the door frame, trying to play it off. "I got you some snacks and I wanted to give you your umbrella back."handing Grace the things. He had gotten his usual smile back. Cute.
"Oh yeah thanks. Was really confused why Spiderman was knocking at my window all of a sudden. Honestly really cool of him to just help out like that when he has nothing better to do. Also you really did not have to get me anything. I mean there isn't any holidays right now or did I miss one? Either way, I really appreciate it. You really didn't have to-" "Grace you are rambling again and I just wanted to do something nice for a friend" Simon interrupted and there was that expression he was thinking about earlier. "Anyways I'm heading back over. Still need to take care of my plants for today. See you around Grace" "Yeah see ya" and so Simon went back.
The window was in fact open.
