Notes:

Rogue/Gambit Week Day 3: "I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. By your side"

Work Text:

“Dis ain’t fair,” Gambit grumbled. Another blanket was tossed at him unceremoniously. It hit him right in his face, and he stubbornly decided to just leave it there.

“I don’t care that it’s unfair,” Rogue said, tossing a large number of blankets and pillows onto their bed. “You’re sick,so ya rest. Plain an’ simple.”

Gambit groaned and finally tried to drag himself out from under the mountain of fluff. “Ain’t nothin’.” He insisted, “Just some sniffles!” As if his body had an ironic sense of humor, he was then overtaken by a fit of coughing.

Remy LeBeau simply never got sick. Of course, the one night this year he does would be on his birthday. Of course,he’d only had a birthday for a little while. For most of his life, he just added 1 to his age on New Year’s Eve,because he didn’t exactly know where his birth certificate was. And truth be told,he might be celebrating on the wrong day,the hospital records he’d found were smudged and half-burnt. Still, now that he had a birthday,he was quite egotistical about it.

He liked going out,and getting all the freebies from his favorite restaurants and bars and he liked to eat too many cakes and he liked dancing and he liked to tell Rogue “my wishes all already come true” when she offered him a birthday candle.

But no, this year, he had to be sick

“It’s ain’t so bad,y’know” Rogue insisted,as she crawled into the bed behind him. Gambit opened his mouth to protest, and got a thermometer shoved in instead. “We can go out this weekend…it’ll be better vibes anyway” Rogue added. She pulled out the thermometer and grimaced at the number displayed.

“Non, I should be in de club!” Gambit whined, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders.

“Mhm,I’m sure all the patrons would just love to have ya snottin’ on ‘em all night” Rogue said, rolling her eyes. “You’re bein’ such a baby, Sugah.”

Gambit glared at her. “Dis ain’t right” He insisted. He settled back against the pillows

“I know,” Rogue said, smoothing his hair back out of his eyes. Gambit leaned into her touch, enjoying the cool feel of silk against his skin. He looked a bit like a cat.

“You oughta go” He mumbled. “You should have a night out,an’ then come home an’ tell me everything. Party in my stead.” He was beginning to sound quite nonsensical. “Should go,an’ then bring me home snacks”

Rogue laughed. “Nah. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. By your side”

“Aww…how sweet…” Gambit mumbled. He yawned and snuggled close to her. “M’serious about dem snacks, though,Marie.”
