Work Text:

Wilson had been working at the same coffee shop for the past 5 years, ever since he was 17, and as boring as that sounds, he stuck to it. Same routine, bike to work, make coffees, serve customers, find himself people watching, looking at all the couples and wishing it would be him someday, close up, bike home, sleep, repeat. Not much changed about the shop, sometimes they had a few new additions to the menu, but that's about as exciting as it got. Until one day he walked in and his coworkers were chatting away whilst stocking some new cups. Clear plastic ones with a gap in the middle, that could hold two different drinks, so customers could try two drinks at the same time, or so couples could share without their different preferences getting in the way. Wilson imagined it, him sitting on a bench with someone he adored, someone who adored him, sharing drinks from one of those cups, for Wilson that was about as romantic as life could get.

He snapped back to reality when one of his coworkers, Heather, started talking about a customer that had come into the shop the other day, and how she would just love to share one of these new cups with him. Wilson knew exactly who she was talking about, the cute light brunette boy with the dark bluish greyish eyes, that had ordered an iced caramel latte. Wilson would love to share one of the new cups with him too, but every cute guy was always straight, and Heather would always snatch them all up the second she set her eyes on them as they walked through the door of the shop. Always. Every single time.

At 10am it was time to open up, so Wilson made his way to the front doors, twisting the key inside the lock until he heard that satisfying click and swung the doors open, only to reveal iced caramel latte boy just across the street, leaned against a building, scrolling on his phone, like he was waiting for the shop to open. Wilson looked at him for a second before Heather was peering from behind him,

"Everyone! He's back! The cute guy from yesterday, oh he so wants me. Why would he come to the same coffee shop two days in a row? And wait for us to open? He wants me." She was practically beaming as she announced this to all of the staff.

Wilson just rolled his eyes as he stood behind her, completely unaware he was blocking the door. Blocking iced caramel latte boys path as he tried to walk in.

"Sorry could I-"

"Shit I-I'm in your way-"

"No worries," iced caramel latte boy smiled, yeah Wilson really needed to find out his name, but it would be weird to ask a customer that right? They didn't even write names on the cups here like at Starbucks or Costa or any of those other big brands, unless they did write names....from today...

Wilson rushed over to the till, practically shoving Heather out of the way, and waited for the boy to make his way over. He watched as he carefully looked at the entire menu, as if picking what to order was the most important decision he would ever have to make, and then he approached the counter.

"One iced caramel latte please."

Wilson almost laughed, the boy had been studying the menu for the past 30 seconds to get the same order as yesterday, he really was iced caramel latte boy.

"Of course, and what's the name for the order?"

This caused some strange glances from his coworkers, they literally never asked that here, but it was worth it, just to know his name.

"Brando."

Wilson grabbed a cup and wrote "Brando :)" in sharpie, "Ok that'll be ready in just a second, Brando."

Wilson turned around to make the order, and out of the corner of his eye saw a scowl on Heather's face, which gave him some odd sense of satisfaction, because he genuinely found Brando cute, and Heather wasn't about to take that from him.

He finished making the drink and handed it to Brando with a smile, "there you go."

"Thank you! It's uh-" he glanced down at the name badge on Wilson's apron, "Wilson, right? I was wondering if you'd want to hang out sometime?"

The dark curly haired boy turned bright red, "I-I uh, hang out, with m-me?"

Brando giggled, "yeah, with you, if that's alright?"

"Yes, o-of course, how about after my shift tommorow? 1pm?"

"Perfect, see you then, Wilson." And he walked out, looking as chilled as ever.

The next day, Wilson powered through his shift, avoiding Heather who kept giving him dirty looks, and just thinking about getting to hang out with Brando after work, the highlight of his month. He found himself daydreaming about it, how he could make them both one of those drinks in those double cups before he left work, one side with Brando's iced caramel latte, and one side with Wilson's iced black coffee. How they could sit on a bench together and drink it together, how close together they would be. Was bringing the drink too bold? Should he just get two cups? No, he needed to be more outgoing, and that's exactly what he was going to do.

Five minutes before his shift finished, he quickly made the drink in one of the new cups, iced caramel latte, iced black coffee. He pulled his apron over his head, grabbed his stuff, and walked outside, where Brando was waiting for him.

"Hey, how was your shift?"

"Boring as usual, I've been looking forward to this though."

"What drink have you got there?"

"It's actually for both of us...it's these new split cups we got the other day," he replied, an embarrassing blush starting to cover his face.

"Really? That's so cool, so...I'm guessing that's an iced caramel latte for me...and....black coffee, for you?"

"Mhm"

"I never would've guessed that."

"Guessed what?"

"That you're a black coffee drinker."

"Gotta stay awake somehow."

Brando laughed at that, "come on, theres this bench in this really nice park five minutes from here..."

They both walked to the bench together, mainly in comfortable silence, it just kind of worked, Wilson was tired after his shift and could use a quick break before more social interaction, and Brando realised they could savour all the getting to know each other when they actually made it to the park.

They finally arrived at the bench and sat down, ready to enjoy their coffees, and their first date.
