Summary
Drew didn't remember there being any certain point of realization; no specific moment where windows shattered as it hit him, no trains of thoughts colliding in their tracks, no fireworks exploding in the sky. One day he just took a glimpse of Jake (as Drew tended to do these days, stealing small, guilty looks he made sure no one would notice), who had been sitting on the other side of the classroom (ignoring his existence), and he had known that the hurt emotion in the expanse of his chest was there to stay.
The hardest part was accepting he should never act on his insistent longing. They weren't friends anymore. In this universe, Drew and Jake had no future together.
(In which unresolved feelings and a rare disease are slowly taking all color out of Drew's life.)
