Chapter 1: It's just another job

Chapter Text

“Uh.. are you sure this is gonna work?” Pomni asked, skeptical of the plan.
“Of course it is,” Jax started, messing up Pomni’s hair as he came into her line of sight. “That dumb old man won't be able to tell the difference” the rabbit said, twirling a fake poker chip in his gloved fingers.

“Sure.. but I bet the security could.” Pomni snapped back, raising an eyebrow. “Duuude.. We’ve been over this. Let's just get it done already.” Jax said, hopping from foot to foot.

The small girl wasn’t fully convinced, yet she did have to admit, the money would be useful. “Alright” Pomni gave in.

She prepared to enter the casino as Jax adjusted his tie, eager to look well dressed. Pomni quickly smacked his hand away as he reached to fix her tie.

Pomni, realising what she’d done went to apologise, but Jax chuckled before she had the chance. “Tch- you really wanna go into the casino looking like that?” He joked, gesturing at the SLIGHTLY off tie Pomni was rocking.

“Oh my god, it’s fine!” Pomni growled back at him, earning a sharp laugh from her slender… associate. She didn’t even know what to call him. Were they friends? But they argue all the time.. Work partners? Alright surely this doesn’t count as a job. Her.. ex?

Pomni’s entire body repulsed as that thought came to mind. The two of them dated for like.. Two months, but they both knew that it didn’t feel right. Jax was never around, and Pomni never saw him that way. Luckily after they broke up, they went back to the way it always was. Best frenemies. That was the word she was searching for.

“Wakey wakey” The bunny said through his teeth, lightly smacking Pomni on the forehead. “Anyone in there? We got a job to do.” He said leaning down to stand eye to eye with the girl. Before Pomni could process what was happening, Jax spat on her face, clearly impatient. “AH-! WHAT THE-!” Pomni spattered, fists throwing in front of her. “LETS GO ALREADY!!” Jax practically screamed, grabbing Pomni’s forearm in a sharp grip and dragging her along.

By the time the dapper girl had wiped the spit off of her face, she was already at the gate entrance way. She gripped the gate handle that sat just barely below her face (she’s short, we get it) and swung it open. “Ladies first” She said to Jax half joking. Jax just frowned down at her, before returning his usual grin. “I’m more lady like than you anyways, spit face” He said in a sing-song tone, strutting through the casino grounds.

Pomni let out a sharp exhale at that comment. “It’s your fault that there’s spit on my face.” Pomni mumbled, catching up with Jax before he made a hand signal. “Look prominent” he signed. “Valet guy up ahead”. Pomni looked up to see a well-dressed blue mannequin with googly eyes standing at the door.
Jax’s grin seemed to die down a bit, to a normal level of smiling. He reached into his pocket and took out a twenty dollar bill. “Here you are, Mr valet, sir.” Jax smiled, tucking the cash into the mannequin’s top pocket. “Bold of you to assume I’m the valet attendant.” The blue figure spoke, his eyes not quite looking at the two ‘guests’ in front of him.
“Uh.. are you not..?” Pomni asked, confused. “I am” He replied, opening up the door. “What-” Pomni whispered, barely loud enough for her to hear it herself. Jax nodded in the valet attendant’s direction and stepped through the door.

Pomni’s eyes slowly adjusted to the light, as sounds began to register in her brain. Jax looked over at her with a look to see if she was ready. Pomni nodded. “It’s go time” she said, grinning.
“COUGH-cringe-COUGH” Jax replied.
