Shoulder To Shoulder Into The Fray

Summary:

Why should women have no say in the affairs that govern their lives?

Notes:

Prompt from ezekiel13 - Suffragette AU

Title from Sister Suffragette from Mary Poppins

Work Text:

Jena does this because she truly, deeply, believes in their cause. Why should women have no say in the affairs that govern their lives? How is it reasonable for the most foolish men to hold more authority than the most sensible women? It is unjust, and archaic.

Still, she cannot deny the thrill that runs through her every time she sees Tess at a meeting or march. As a married woman, she shouldn’t entertain the fantasies that run through her head at the sight of Tess’ radiant smile or at the sound of her voice or, most often of all, when she is all disheveled yet with such pride on her features. Maybe Jena shouldn’t feel this way, but who’s to know? No man has yet invented a way to read a woman’s mind. Her desires are for her alone, a private pleasure.
