In a shocking turn of events, under the blinding lights of the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, Formula One announces the retirement of one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever seen.
Max Verstappen breaks the news with the casual brutality only he seems capable of. Beside him on the red couch in the post race interview are George at the center and Lewis to his left. Gaping at him in equal befuddlement.
It follows then, that the grid rearrange itself.
Following the clownery that was the Silver Arrows’ annual contract negotiations, George Russell is rumored to have declined a contract extension with Mercedes. The move has stunned the paddock. After clawing his way back into title contention and rising to second in the championship midway through the season, few expected the driver long regarded as blindly loyal to the team to walk away.
