Chapter Text
The street lights flickered under the moonlight, Konoha shining below it, and a faint wind rustled the leaves on the trees.
It was midnight.
A beautiful midnight.
Konoha slept at this hour, even the birds and the animals were silent.
But the village's Hokage was still awake in the Hokage office, working on the Hokage desk.
Sarada sat behind the desk, her white-and red-Hokage cloak moving faintly due to the wind, her short, textured pixie hair shining in the moonlight.
The desk was covered with scrolls and mission reports.
She stared at the scrolls.
There seemed to be almost no end to them.
She pressed two fingers to her temple, trying to soothe the headache building behind her eyes.
Her eyes were bloodshot, the result of trying to keep them open despite sleep clinging to her.
Her hands now hurt from signing so many documents all day.
Uchiha Sarada, the Ninth Hokage,22 years old, the youngest to ever become the Hokage, she took the mantle of the Hokage at just 20.
The village and its people's responsibility were on her shoulders, which meant she had to do everything to keep them safe, living, and happy, even if it meant burning her peaceful nights and days.
Even if it meant not spending enough time with her husband, Uzumaki Boruto.
Her shadow Hokage.
She does try to spend time with him even if her Hokage duties often make it difficult.
Ah, that idiot!
She desperately missed that baka, even if she had just seen him early in the morning.
Though she wouldn't admit that to him.
Her attention drifted to the band on her finger.
The simple but precious gold band shone on her ring finger.
He has an identical copy of it on his ring finger.
They got married just a month ago.
They were still newlyweds.
They had been living in a cozy and comfortable house beside a beautiful lake.
Suddenly, she remembered the scrolls right in front of her.
She sighed.
She needs to end them soon so that she can go home to that stupid moron.
The candlelight flickered faintly in the wind.
Sarada was sitting on the Hokage chair.
Still working.
Much time had passed.
She was trying to focus on the mission reports.
She suddenly noticed a flicker of movement by her window.
Suddenly, the window snapped open.
And Uzumaki Boruto dropped inside.
The moonlight shining in his blue eyes, the wind rustling his blond hair, the two whiskers on his cheek visible in the light, his black cloak flowing in the wind.
"Boruto!"
Onyx eyes locked with blue eyes.
Such intensity shining in those eyes.
"Hey, there, my Love."
"I missed you."
"You literally saw me this morning, Boruto."
"And there's a front door normal people enter from," she scolded gently but firmly.
"Huh! That was too long."
"And I'm not a normal person, dattebasa."
She sighed then she muttered "idiot" under her breath.
He grinned.
"Anyway, you were taking very long, so I figured I should go get my wife myself."
Sarada's heart rate spiked over hearing the word "wife" from him.
A blush spread to her cheeks.
She was still getting used to their married life and him calling her "my wife" every chance he got.
Like, she has a name; it's Sarada Uchiha.
He calls her my wife in front of almost everyone, which causes her to become a blushing mess in front of literal people.
Though she actually likes it when he calls her my wife.
Not that he would ever know that.
"Hmm, but I have work to do."
"Work can wait," he let out an almost offended sound.
"I need to finish reading these scrolls and those mission reports, Boruto."
He glared at the papers as if they had personally offended him, which they clearly had.
He moved close to her.
He started rubbing her shoulders gently to soothe the tension he so knew was there.
She relaxed under his touch instinctually.
"Come on, love, you need rest, and I'm pretty sure you have not eaten yet, have you?"
"Hmm, I drank coffee."
"That's not food."
"It is"
"It clearly isn't."
"Hmph, fine."
"But I still have these to finish." She said, pointing at the reports.
His face dropped, then he smirked cheekily.
"Come on, your comfy bed and your precious husband who gives you cuddles are waiting."
She stared at the piles of paper on her desk and then back at Boruto, trying to decide what she should do.
Unfortunately, the urge to have a good dinner, sleep, and well cuddles with Boruto won.
Agh, you know what fuck these papers, they can wait, but those cuddles can't.
"Fine, let's go home."
Boruto's face beamed with happiness.
"Okay, let's go home."
"But."
"But what, love?"
"But you're carrying me."
"I would be glad to, my love," Boruto said with a cheeky smile, causing her cheeks to heat up.
"Come on," He opened his arms wide for her.
She finally stood up and
Oh, her back hurts like hell because of sitting all day in a chair.
Boruto slid his arm under her knees and the other behind her shoulders, picking her up with absolutely no effort.
"You're heavy," he joked.
"I'm not," She said with an annoyed voice.
"Hang on tight, Hokage-sama."
She tightened her grip on him.
With her in his arms, he jumped into the night air.
The night stretched endlessly across Konoha.
Moonlight shining.
Wind blew faintly, sending fallen leaves flying into the air.
"The night is beautiful tonight, isn't it, Sarada?"
"Yeah, it is."
"Not as beautiful as you, though," He said with a love-struck gaze.
A heavy blush spread to her cheeks and ears.
"Shut-t-up."
"You stuttered," He grinned, wide and infuriating.
"I did not," She looked away, trying to hide the obvious blush on her cheeks.
He smiled sweetly, wind ruffling both of their hair.
They continued flying like that for a while.
Until.
"Here we are, Home," Boruto said.
Their house, their home, came into view.
A beautiful house that had become their home stood at the corner with a lake beside it.
Boruto had bought the house shortly before proposing to her.
He had bought it for her.
It was in her name.
He had given her the keys after their engagement and informed her it was hers.
She had immediately tried to pay him back half of what he had spent on it.
She wanted the house to be equally theirs.
He had refused.
He had only allowed it in his conditions, conditions that made absolutely no sense to Sarada.
He had said:
"The only thing I'm accepting in return is getting to wake up to your face every morning."
He had paused dramatically and later added:
"And kisses, lots of them."
And she had agreed to it eventually, minus the kisses part.
Boruto dropped to the floor and helped Sarada get on her feet.
He unlocked the door and said:
"Come, Sara, I made dinner."
"You made dinner, you, Boruto?" She said, like she couldn't believe it, which she actually couldn't.
"Yes, Sarada, I made it."
"My mother taught me how to cook."
She laughed at how offended he looked and also at how adorable he looked because of the pout.
"Oo, hoon," she made a sound, a teasing smile on her face.
"Don't oo, hoon me, Sarada."
"Alright, fine, let's go."
She took his hand in hers, his hand almost enveloping hers completely.
"Come on," she said, tugging him along before he could continue pouting
Then she led him into their kitchen, still holding his hand.
He pulled out a chair for her and helped her sit.
"Thank you," she said.
"Hehe, my pleasure," he bowed dramatically
Then he practically skipped off to get their dinner, giggling the whole way.
Sarada smiled, her chin resting on her hands as she watched him being so silly.
Sometime later, he returned with their dinner.
Boruto served ramen.
He sat down and wasted no time digging in.
Sarada picked up her chopsticks and took her first bite, slurping some noodles.
"So how is it?" he asked
"Hmm, it's alright," she replied
He grinned because an "alright" from her was equivalent to "very good".
Then she smirked and said:
"Although mine's much better."
"Of course it is, you have been cooking since we were genin," he said.
"I know," she replied smugly.
"So, how was work at the Hokage office?"
"Don't ask," She grumbled.
"Why?,was it bad?,"
It wasn't that it was bad; it was that she had missed him all day.
"The council members are tiring," she admitted, telling only half of the truth.
"Ah, those old folks!"
"Why don't you fire them?" he suggested.
"I wish I could," she said after slurping some noodles.
"You're the Hokage," he said with a mouth full of ramen.
"Boruto, eat first, then speak," she scolded him.
"Hmph, you're so strict," he whined
"Someone has to be," she replied smoothly.
By the time they finished eating, the bowls were empty.
"Who's going to wash the dishes ?" Boruto asked.
"You, of course," she snorted.
"Of course, I, Boruto Uzumaki, the great house husband, am going to wash the dishes," he continued dramatically, with a hand on his heart.
"Don't be dramatic," she huffed, crossing her arms.
"Now, go wash dishes," she ordered.
"Yes ma'am," he obeyed.
He looked back one last time before finally going to wash dishes, and finally, there was peace.
They had dinner peacefully.
Now they both sat comfortably on the couch in the living room.
"I really should go shower," said Sarada, already getting up.
Boruto suddenly smiled mischievously.
"How about I come with you?"
"Y'know, I could help you lather soap onto your back," he winked at her.
Her face flushed red immediately.
She looked like a tomato.
"No way!!"
"You're not coming with me!!"
"Come on, Love, think about it," He wiggled his eyebrows.
"No, Boruto, I need peace while I shower."
"Hey! I'm not gonna steal your peace, dattebasa!"
"You will," she replied seriously.
At the end, he ended up going with her and also ended up stealing all her peace.
Not that she minded.
Dinner had gone peacefully, shower had gone peacefully, well as peacefully as it could with Boruto.
Sarada was sitting wrapped in blankets on the bed.
Reading mission reports.
Boruto stopped at the door.
"What's that!"
"Mission reports," she replied coolly.
"In bed!?"
"Yes, in bed."
"Aghhh."
He sighed.
He had given up.
A little time had passed in silence.
Suddenly,
"Borutoo !"
"Hmm?"
"You're on my side of bed," she hit him with a pillow.
"Hey, hey, Sarada!" he laughed
She glared at him, looking like she wanted to kill him.
"Don't laugh," she warned.
"Pfft, not my fault you look cute when you're mad."
She shoved him so hard he almost fell off the bed.
Suddenly, Boruto wrapped both arms around her, while she tried to break free.
He tightened his hold even more, not letting her escape.
Eventually, she finally calmed down and stopped struggling.
And then, she snuggled into his chest.
Her ears and cheeks were slightly red.
"Cuddles?" Boruto suddenly asked.
"No, I hate cuddles," she replied.
"Says the one who doesn't let go of me in the morning?" he teased with a smirk on his face.
"That doesn't happen."
Heat rushed to her cheeks.
"Keep pretending you hate cuddles," he said while cuddling her.
She instinctively moved closer, tightening her hold on him.
He finally turned off the light.
Her hands rested on his chest and his back, while his were wrapped around her waist.
"Good night, love."
He said with an extremely sweet voice.
His blue eyes shone, the ones she loved so much.
"Good night, bolt."
She replied softly with love.
She fell asleep, cuddled against his chest.
He kissed her forehead and whispered:
"Sleep tight, Hokage-sama."
