Work Text:
Dakkar could feel the fog swirling all around him, yet it never hurt him like it did others. The fog parted for his feet, careful not to make contact, as he headed toward the source of it all—Kalfu. The gangly man was bent over a desk, fiddling with something Dakkar could not yet see. As he moved closer, he noticed that Kalfu was messing with one of his inventions, and a small smirk tugged at his lips.
“Having fun with that, are we?” Dakkar asked, causing Kalfu to startle and swear.
“Dakkar! I didn’t sense you come in…” He said, his voice just as smooth as it always was. Dakkar couldn’t help but smile wider.
“Your fog still parts for me, Kal.”
“So it does,” Kal tilts his head, “Do you need something? Or can I get back to my work?” Kalfu asked, raising an eyebrow. Dakkar raised one back. Kalfu never missed a chance to spend time with Dakkar, so something had to be amiss.
“Kalfu…”
“No, don’t get like that with me, Dak,” Kalfu said, pointing at him, “I have very important business to attend to right now.”
“More important than your fiancé?” Dakkar challenged, trapping Kalfu in a dangerous game. Whatever he said next, he’d need to be careful about it.
“Look, Dakkar, this is…” Kalfu couldn’t meet his eyes, and Dakkar knew he had won, “Okay, okay, fine, if I tell you why I need to work on this will you leave me be?”
“Depends on the reason.”
“It’s a gift for you, dingus.”
“Careful, I still might be mad at you,” The smile on his face said otherwise. Kalfu was always giving him little trinkets and gifts, yet he always saved the big gifts for special occasions. This was either another small gift, or a big one, since their anniversary was next month.
“Dak…” Kalfu pouted, moving away from his desk and closer to Dakkar. Dakkar leaned in and pressed his lips to Kalfu’s, capturing him in a gentle kiss. Immediately, the virologist kissed back, his hands resting on Dakkar’s waist. “It’s a very important gift, I promise.” Kalfu said, breaking the kiss first. Dakkar gave him a smirk. So it was for their anniversary.
“Alright, I’ll forgive you…this time.” Dakkar teased, and Kalfu rolled his eyes. “But you owe me a date for this,”
Kalfu laughed, a loud and hearty chuckle, “Alright, that’s fair. How about…a night of stargazing at the Starhold Observatory?”
“If Margaret is willing to part with the moon long enough, sure.”
“Mm, that’s true. I’ll get a reservation at Paradise Kitchen just in case,” Kalfu said, going back to the invention. Dakkar smiled at his back, before walking out of his lab, the fog parting for him like always.

A month passed by in a blaze, Dakkar and Kalfu being kept busy by their respective duties. So, when their anniversary rolled around, both of them were relieved to have the day off. Kalfu practically burst into Dakkar’s room, carrying a bouquet of flowers.
“Anniversary day!” He announced, a manic grin on his face. Dakkar was already dressed, and quickly stood up.
“Took you long enough, I thought I’d turn grey before you showed up.”
“Oh shut up, you know I love to make an entrance.” Kalfu scoffed, tossing the bouquet to Dakkar. He effortlessly caught it, taking in the scent of the ipomoea flowers. “Come on, I have a big day planned.”
“You better,”
The two headed off to the first spot of the day—the palace gardens. They were surrounded by plants of all shapes and sizes, and took a seat in an area shielded by blue roses. Kalfu set up the picnic spot with magic, the objects easily floating into carefully selected spots. Dakkar nearly laughed when the umbrella tried fighting back against Kalfu, refusing to stay where he put it. If he could, Dakkar would’ve given it a little nudge into the correct position, but unfortunately he didn’t have Movement as one of his magic ways. It was a nice source of entertainment, though.
“Ugh, this blasted umbrella! Just stay where I put you!” Kalfu huffed.
“Love, have you tried moving it more to the left?”
“Yes! I’ve tried everything!”
“Even angling it?”
Kalfu went silent for a moment, “Almost everything.” He set the umbrella at an angle, and it finally stayed. Letting out a sigh of relief, he sat himself down on the blanket that Margaret had made. Dakkar joined him, intertwining their fingers like he had done so many times before.
“Kal, do you ever wonder what’s past our planet?” Dakkar asked, eyeing his fiancé closely. Kalfu hummed, a sign that he was thinking.
“Sometimes. Though it’s not the biggest thing I wonder about.”
“Well what is?”
“How in the world I landed you as my fiance,” Kalfu said, smiling wistfully. Dakkar laughed, squeezing his fiancé’s hand tighter.
“Seriously? You wonder that?”
“Why wouldn’t I? You’re the brother to the Great Enchantress! A prince, a brilliant scholar, and a phenomenal healer. I’m just a virologist.”
“The best virologist,” Dakkar said, making Kalfu meet his eyes, “Kal, you don’t have to be amazing to deserve me, you know that.”
“I know…still, it’s a miracle you settled for me.” Kalfu smiled sheepishly, and Dakkar kissed him. A passionate kiss, he leaned fully into Kalfu, trusting that his partner would hold him up. He did, with a tad bit of a struggle, but still eagerly kissed back. “God, you drive me wild…”
Dakkar grinned, “I know.”
“Scoundrel.”
“Hermit.”
“Oho! You want to call me a hermit? How much time do you spend in your little workshop?” Kalfu shot back, smacking the healer’s shoulder without much force behind it.
“Speaking of, what did you do with that invention of mine you were tinkering with?” Dakkar asked. Kalfu flushed, but produced the item from his product anyway. Originally, it was a spyglass, but now, the body was shorter, and the glass itself had chunks of it. “What is that?”
“A little something I thought up,” Kal grinned, and he held the modified spyglass up vertically, and lit up his free hand with the Radiance. When placed under the bottom of the object, stars and constellations became projected onto the umbrella, shining just as brightly as Kal’s Radiance. Dakkar stared in awe at the shapes. They were all so sharp and precise, how long had it taken Kal to do this?
“Kal, this is…”
“I know how much you and Margaret love the stars, so I thought I’d ensure you can always see them.”
“I love you.” Dakkar surged forward, capturing Kal in another passionate kiss. His hands found their place on Dakkar’s waist, kissing back just as fiercely. Warmth spread between them, and unsurprisingly their hands began to glow. They kiss for a while, until the need for air overwhelmed their desire. Panting and red-faced, the two smile at each other. Though he was relentlessly bothersome at times, Kal wouldn’t have his partner be anyone but Dakkar. Dakkar was his, and he Dakkar’s. Sharing their future together seemed like a great plan, and he was looking forward to all that was to come.
