Electric

Summary:

Unregistered y/n meets Gojo after beating a curse, finding out she wasn't the only one who could see curses

Notes:

Your cursed technique is electrification, and your weapon of choice is throwing stars. You imbue your cursed energy into the throwing stars and release the energy in bursts, but if you're reckless enough you can overcharge yourself to kill on impact, but it can cause blowback in yourself, resulting in varying sized electrical burns on your body.

Additional info: geto never turned bad and is a teacher alongside gojo, and yuji isn't sukunas vessel he had his own cursed energy but still attends jujutsu high.

Work Text:

Gojo stared in disbelief and slight amusement as he watched a woman who he'd never seen before kill a curse like it was nothing. As the curse disintegrated, the woman walked over and plucked what looked like throwing stars out of the corpse. He walked over with his hands in his pockets, now very intrigued.

He'd been called to deal with a special grade in an abandoned warehouse that seemed to be killing anyone who happened to be stupid enough to explore it. The way it killed was brutal and left the corpses mutilated, almost unidentifiable.

It'd been reported to him that others had tried, and failed, to deal with the curse, so he was their best bet. What he didn't expect, was to walk in on someone else dealing with the curse like it was easy. Was she special grade? If she was, why didn't he know her? Was she unregistered?

As his mind swam with thoughts, his steps grew closer, which drew the other's attention.

"That was impressive," he opted to say.

"You saw that?" Her eyes widened before she rushed over. "No way! You can see them too?"

"Uh huh." He grinned, reaching up to lift his blindfold. "You know what they are?"

"Uh, not really." She furrowed her brows, looking back over her shoulder at where the curses corpse had been. "They're freaky and bad, so I just, I don't know, kill them?"

It was all making sense, she must've grown up in a normal family that had no knowledge of curses or anything of the sort.

"Wanna learn about them?" He quirked a brow at her, still grinning.

Her eyes practically sparkled and she nodded quickly. Gojo took the blindfold off after she badgered him about 'wanting to see who she was talking to' and put his hands back in his pockets. He lead her out of the building, explaining things as they went. She seemed very interested in all of it, hanging onto every word he said.

"Wow," she said as they walked down the sidewalk. "this is insane, I didn't know other people could see these- uh, curses? I thought I was on my own. And you're telling me you get paid for this? Fuck, I've been doing it for free!" She groaned, kicking a pebble.

Gojo laughed loudly at her cute little angry pout. That was another thing, when they had walked out into proper lighting, he'd seen how beautiful she was, y/n, he'd found out. Y/n was all too happy to spill her life's story to Gojo, babbling on about her parents and how they'd sent her away for psychiatric treatment multiple times by the time she was fourteen, all because she kept insisting she was seeing things that nobody else could.

They'd put her on multiple medications, and y/n felt like a zombie, all while still seeing curses. After turning fourteen, she decided to just start lying about what she was seeing, saying she grew out of it to get out of taking the medication and going to therapy.

Of course, she could still see curses, but she decided to deal with it in her own way, and that way was denial. Well, it worked swimmingly until she turned sixteen and was attacked on her way home by a grade two curse. In a panic, she'd unleashed a deadly charge of electricity and cooked the curse while also getting blowback in the form of some nasty patches of electrical burns on her arms and legs.

After going home with staticky hair and a newfound power she didn't know how to use, y/n was no longer scared of the things she was seeing, not after finding out that she could kill them.

After that, y/n became unbelievably reckless and kind of an adrenaline junkie. She sought out curses, without knowing what they were, and tested out all sorts of things, that was how she found out about the throwing stars.

Y/n started to experiment with her cursed energy, still having no idea what it was, and trying to figure out how far she could go with it, testing her limits. Putting to use her knowledge of the fact that her electricity could be discharged from her body, she started to wonder if she could imbue it onto objects. That thought ended with a lot of testing, and a lot of failures.

She struggled with it at first, but she slowly got the hang of it. She tested out which metals held up the best, and had throwing stars made out of her metal of choice. Y/n had tried knives first, but found it wholly inefficient to have to get so close to a curse that could kill her. Hence, the throwing stars.

By the time y/n was twenty two, she had complete control over her cursed energy and a killer aim. She knew her limits, but often ignored them, often seeking out curses in her free time.

By the time they reached the city, the sun was setting and Gojo was sure he knew more about y/n's childhood than her closest friends. Not that he was complaining, he found her rambling interesting.

"You wanna go somewhere where you can learn more about all this?" he asked as they walked along the busy sidewalk.

"How do I know you aren't trying to kidnap me?" She teased.

"Maybe I am." He laughed.

"This is not how I thought my day was going to go," she admitted. "but to be honest, this is the best day i've had in years, so, i'll go with you."

~

At Jujutsu High, y/n was in awe. She asked questions and looked around excitedly. Gojo hadn't told anyone he was bringing y/n, so he, unfortunately, had to leave y/n with his students when he got dragged off by Yaga.

Y/n stood across from three kids who Gojo had briefly introduced as his students, Megumi, Nobara, and Yuji, before he was dragged off by an irritated looking man.

"So," she started. "you all see curses too? What's your, uh.." she trailed off, trying to remember what Gojo had told her.

"Cursed technique?" the girl supplied.

"Yeah, that." She nodded.

The pink haired kid was all too happy to ramble on about his cursed technique before getting hit over the head by the spiky haired boy, Megumi, then it was his turn to explain. He seemed bored, but was thorough and to the point about his cursed technique. Nobara seemed happy to tell y/n about hers, and y/n was practically buzzing from excitement.

"That's so cool! Can you guys show me?" she asked.

"Yeah! Of course!" Yuji said.

"But what's your cursed technique?" Nobara asked.

"I'll show you if you show me." She grinned, rocking back and forth on her feet.

The kids quickly lead her to the training field, seeming interested in seeing her cursed technique at work, even Megumi seemed intrigued.

The three demonstrated their techniques for her, and y/n was very interested in each one, asking a million questions.

"Okay, we did our part," Megumi said, crossing his arms. "your turn."

Y/n walked onto the field and shooed the trio away, not wanting to accidentally zap any of them. She asked if they had anything they wouldn't mind breaking, and Megumi pulled a wooden staff out of his shadow. She nodded once and told him to throw it when she was ready. Y/n shook out her hands, and the kids watched the way entire demeanour changed from carefree and excited to insanely focused in a second.

Y/n nodded over to Megumi, who threw the staff into the air near her. Y/n used a little bit of her cursed energy and sent a bolt of electricity through the staff, causing it to splinter before breaking into tiny pieces.

"No way! That's so cool!" Yuji said.

Y/n jumped when there was suddenly a hand on her shoulder, and she instinctively sent a little shock through whoever it was.

She whipped around and saw Gojo standing there, his jaw dropped while he shook his hand out.

"Why didn't you use your infinity thingy?" Y/n gasped, grabbing his hand to check if he was okay.

"Well, I didn't think i'd need it around you." He laughed a little, but his body still felt tingly.

She rolled her eyes and dropped his hand. "Whatever. Why'd you get dragged away?"

"He got in trouble for bringing you here!" Yuji called out.

She looked up at him. "Oh shit, really? Should I leave?"

"No no," he insisted. "it's fine, we talked about it and came to an agreement."

"Agreement?" She quirked a brow.

"Yeah!" He smiled wide. "I'm going to teach you about the world of jujutsu and take you on missions. And, don't worry, you'll get paid this time."

As the trio watched from the sidelines, they all had the same thought; y/n and Gojo seemed to have insane chemistry for two people who had apparently just met hours prior.

~

It took all of three weeks for Gojo to start blatantly hitting on y/n. Geto was the first to notice, and of course he gossiped about it with Nobara, who in turn told Yuji and Megumi.

Y/n, for the most part, seemed to not even notice, clearly too engrossed learning to pay attention to the poor guy. It seemed to be driving Satoru mad, the way he was basically being ignored. He'd enlisted Geto's help in teaching y/n, seeing as he still had missions to go on, he couldn't be with her all the time, much to his dismay.

There was just something about y/n's personality that drew him in. He didn't know if it was the oversharing, the way she never seemed to stop smiling, or the way she adapted to everything so quickly, but he liked her. Which, that was surprising, because he hadn't felt like this before. He tried to keep his distance from anyone not involved in the jujutsu world, because he didn't want to put them in danger, and nobody from his world had interested him. Well, at least not until now.

However, y/n's obliviousness was beginning to put a damper on his mood. He was more pouty than usual, and the others were starting to get fed up with his constant whining.

It took y/n getting injured on a mission for Gojo to finally just come out with his feelings.

~

"I finally get to go on a mission?" Y/n asked excitedly, holding onto Gojo's sleeve.

The only thing y/n did notice about Gojo was that he left his infinity off around her, which she appreciated, because she was a very hands on and affectionate person. And as much as Gojo loved that, it was kind of killing him slowly any time she touched him.

He wasn't used to people being so tactile with him, usually he was the one being affectionate, so this was entirely new to him.

"Uh huh, it's an hour away, suspected special grade," he said, leading her down to the car.

Y/n had the basics down on curse knowledge, so the next question she asked was, "Does that mean I'm a special grade sorcerer if they're sending me too?"

"Yup." He nodded and opened the car door for her, missing her warmth like a lovestruck loser when she let go of his arm to get in.

"You know, Geto's been training me in martial arts," she said as she clicked her seatbelt into place.

"Oh?" Of course he knew, he made it his mission to know all about y/n's happenings like some creepy stalker, but he would not be taking constructive criticism on that.

"Yeah." She nodded. "He's insane, by the way. I swear my back is all black and blue from how many times he's knocked me over."

"Your first mistake was not playing dirty," he teased, sliding into the backseat with her.

"I can't just shock people to win." She laughed.

Their playful banter continued the whole way to the curses location, much to Ijichi's dismay.

~

"It's here? This just looks like a normal hospital," y/n said, scrunching up her nose at the clean looking building.

"It is." Gojo closed the car door behind himself. "It's in the basement."

"What's this curse been up to?" she asked, following him inside.

It was late, but as it was still a hospital, it would never be empty.

"Apparently it's been putting people into comas and slowly sucking their life force," he said, leading the way with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

"Boo," y/n said as she followed him, making him chuckle lightly.

"Yeah, boo."

When they made it to the basement, y/n and Gojo were both on edge, as they could feel the curses energy. Their steps slowed as they neared a darker part of the basement, and there was a wet squelching noise coming from the darkness. Y/n grimaced and pulled her throwing stars from her back pocket.

Suddenly, there was a long, humanoid looking hand that darted out towards them. Y/n sent out a bolt of electricity, making the hidden curse screech and retract its hand quickly.

"Gross." Y/n wrinkled her nose up.

"You're quick." Gojo observed.

He'd been ready to grab the arm if need be, but y/n clearly knew how to handle herself, and somehow that just made him like her even more.

"I have been doing this for years," she said, eyes narrowing as the curse finally revealed itself.

It was gross, and it smelled awful. It had octopus like tentacles in place of legs, but had a completely human looking torso. The arms were elongated, dragging on the floor behind it. The head was human-ish, but had two sets of eyes, no nose, and a slit for a mouth that housed razor sharp teeth.

"Freaky." Y/n ran her thumb across the edge of one of her throwing star before putting it back in her pocket.

"The humanoid ones usually are." Gojo nodded, dodging a hit from the curse easily. "This is all you." He shot her a lopsided grin. "I'll step in if you need help."

Y/n rolled out her shoulders, and the next time one of the curses arms reached for her, she grabbed it with both hands and charged up her electricity, shooting it through the curses arm. The electricity ran under the curses almost translucent skin, travelling up and through its body.

Gojo watched her closely, ready to step in at any point if she needed help, though he doubted she would need it. She was strong, especially for someone who didn't even know what she was really doing until a few weeks ago. She'd trained alone for years and dealt with seeing things nobody else could, and he admired that, he liked her strength, he liked her.

Y/n let go of the curses arm as it screeched and writhed, but she knew it'd take a lot more to kill it than that. She would probably need to amp it up so high that she'd experience some blowback, but that wasn't much of a concern for y/n. She didn't really care about injuring herself if it meant killing a curse.

Y/n shook out her hands, and Gojo leaned forward slightly, eyes widening as y/n suddenly lunged at the curse, yellow electricity crackling off of her body. She wrapped her body around the curse and let off a huge charge of electricity, causing some of the lightbulbs overhead to momentarily light up blindingly bright before shattering, the glass falling down to the floor.

The curse let out an ear piercing screech before falling to the ground, its body blackened and cooked from the inside out. Y/n wobbled to her feet, and Gojo started to clap.

"Wow, well done," he said, grinning.

Y/n turned around slowly, cradling her arm to her chest.

"What's wrong?" he asked after noticing, appearing at her side in less than a second as the curses body disintegrated behind them.

"Just the blowback." She groaned, tipping sideways and falling against his chest.

Gojo wrapped his arm around her shoulders, but pulled it off after she let out a small hiss.

"You said the blowback wasn't that bad," he said, pulling her shirt sleeve up to reveal the very angry looking burn on her arm. "Where else is it?" he asked, seeming a little panicky.

Y/n hadn't seen Gojo looked so worried before, he was always so carefree and smiley, this was an entirely new side of him, and it was for her of all people. She knew that Gojo was the strongest sorcerer, so it was a little strange to have that worry aimed at her; a random person who didn't even know what curses really were until a few weeks ago.

After all, they barely knew each other.

"Just on my shoulders and my legs," she answered.

"That's basically everywhere," he grumbled before bending his knees and sweeping her off her feet in one swift movement.

"Woah! I can still walk." She insisted, pushing at his chest and ignoring the stinging pain in her body.

Gojo huffed sourly and kept a hold on her. "You're injured, injured people are supposed to be quiet,"

Y/n huffed and slumped against his chest, her stomach feeling oddly tingly.

~

"I told you I was fine," y/n said, legs crossed over each other as she leaned against the headboard of her bed.

"These are not fine," he said, narrowing his eyes at her and gesturing to the bandages on her arm, shoulders, and legs.

Gojo had grown accustomed to taking off his blindfold around y/n, since it was usually the first thing she asked him to do when they met up with each other.

"It's nothing I haven't dealt with before." She shrugged.

"That doesn't make me feel any better." He sulked, all pouty and grumpy.

Y/n found it kind of... cute, she found it cute. That thought made her brain short out for a moment, because she had just met this man not even a month ago.

Gojo looked over after a few seconds when she didn't say anything. "Are you sure you're okay?"

"Yeah, I just- um, yeah..." she trailed off.

Gojo eyes her for a second before sighing dramatically and laying his head on her thigh. Y/n stilled for a moment, unsure of what was appropriate, but eventually decided to just do what she wanted. She slowly carded her fingers through his hair, playing with the ends.

"I like you," he confessed. "i've been pining after you like a moron for three weeks and you haven't even noticed, so I figured i'd just tell you."

Y/n's eyes widened, and her hand stilled for a second. "You? Pining?"

"You're painfully oblivious." He rolled onto his back to look up at her, lifting his hand to cup her cheek as he grinned softly.

"I guess I am." She laughed. "I really didn't notice."

"Everyone else did," he said.

They bickered back and forth for a few seconds before y/n leaned down to press their lips together, catching Gojo off guard for the first time in a long time.

"You should've just told me," she said after pulling away.

"You try confessing your love to someone who would rather talk about cursed techniques." He pouted.

She just leaned down to kiss him again, smiling against his lips.
