Tabi’s seen the sun rise and fall, but never at the horizon. Evbo has. It would be a crime to not share a beautiful view with a beautiful woman! …Why are you giving me that look?
As he stated.
Tabi feels something she can’t quite name when her bare feet hit the sand. Something like… defeat? She’s unsure, but she goes along with it.
Evbo takes it upon himself to intertwine his fingers into hers, pulling her toward the low-tide shore. His smile was charming—full of genuine adoration for Tabi. The kind that makes you feel chosen.
Tabi, well, didn’t smile back, but acknowledged his joy he got from successfully convincing her to come with him.
In the earliest of hours, the only presence that accompanied the slow, quiet waves were the couple.
Tabi treads behind him, allowing herself to be dragged along. Her eyes drifted downward to Evbo’s jeans which were getting damp because of the water. “Roll up your pants first,” Tabi reminds him with a low mumble.
“Ah, right! Forgot,” Evbo’s eyes widened slightly. “I guess I was too excited.”
The warmth of his hand leaves hers. It falls back to her side as she watches Evbo quickly bending over to fold his pants up to his knees.
Being alone with Evbo gives her a strange sense of comfort. Sure he can be annoying, talkative, and touchy— but basking in his presence makes her feel not so lonely. She hopes Evbo knows that. She’s not good at this kind of stuff.
Her eyes flickered to Evbo still adjusting his pants, then to the view in front of her. The sun was rising from the horizon. Some clouds were draped over the sky, but it didn’t take away from the scenery’s beauty. It was breathtakingly beautiful—just as Evbo had told her.
“Do you like it?”
Evbo’s voice interrupted her train of thought.
She glances in her peripheral vision to see Evbo finished and stood up. “Yeah,” Tabi breathed out with her face still remaining expression-less.
There was a brief moment of silence between them. The waves crashed gently against their feet, lifting the awkwardness of the room.
“…Sunsets are pretty, but I think seeing the sun rise into a new and fresh day is prettier.”
Uh, that was random. I don’t know what to say.
For a guy that says his own monologue out loud, Evbo couldn’t find something meaningful to converse with Tabi. His heartbeat stirred faster in his body with each anxious thought. He wants to talk with Tabi, but god, he’s silently tripping over his words before he even says them.
Evbo’s staring at her with pathetic puppy eyes and Tabi’s just gazing at the sky. Sure, he’s the one who brought her out here for the sunrise, but can she look at him too? The same way he does? Is the scenery more beautiful than him? Can’t be. The whole point of this was to smile together and share a private moment. The view is just to set the scene, dammit.
Evbo hesitates, but he inches closer to her and slips his hand back into hers. He glances over at Tabi to gauge her reaction.
Tabi’s unphased as usual and he can’t help but whine. He can’t stand seeing Tabi’s attention not focused on him.
“Tabi, can I see you smile? Like to show you’re happy? Being with me?” Evbo whimpered, his voice lowering to a gentler tone. He was met with Tabi staring back at him. Evbo stifled another whimper at the sight of her serious gaze. Another failed attempt at being romantical.
Why’d Tabi have to be his only weakness?
“No,” she deftly said before returning to enjoying what was in front of her.
“Please?”
“No. Final.”
Evbo did not dare to push this any further. He accepted Tabi’s answer with a disappointed whine. Reluctantly. “Okay…”
The silence returned again, but Evbo didn’t want it to last any longer.
Enduring a moment of silence with the love of his life just makes his heartbeat grow louder in his ears— he can’t bear to stand against the pressure. Any second longer and he’ll just regret…
He reached out and shakily pressed his lips on Tabi’s cheek before he or she could even think.
“One… one day, I’ll see your true smile. So I’m not necessarily worried,” Evbo pulls back from his quick peck, trying to brush off how flustered his face has gotten from that simple thing. He mesmerizedly stared into Tabi’s eyes again. “Actually, though, I am kinda worried about when I’ll see it. So don’t keep me on edge all the time and smile one of these days.”
While Tabi stared at him in concealed awe, Evbo reverted his gaze to the ocean beyond. He didn’t expect Tabi to reply. Now that he’s gotten the words off of his chest, he can enjoy the environment around them like Tabi was earlier. A private, cute moment for the couple to remember as intended—
Before he could react, his chin was pulled toward Tabi again, pulling him back into the moment. There wasn’t any hesitation in Tabi’s eyes when she quickly collided her lips into his. She immediately regained Evbo’s attention, in a bold manner that is. The couple’s eyes fluttered closed as they leaned into each other, finally embracing the beauty of their trust and intimacy rooted right here on this beach.
Evbo’s hands immediately found themselves on Tabi’s waist and inevitably pulled her flushed against him. And she allowed him. Even going to hold his face and caress his cheek with her thumb. Her warmth… he wanted to savor it for as long as possible.
God, he loved her so, so much. Evbo couldn’t hold back his giddy smile, essentially pulling away and pausing their kiss. Their faces were inches away from each other yet Tabi immediately felt a bitter chill sweep over her at the loss of contact.
“What’s this about?” Evbo chuckled softly, a small grin evident on his lips. He leaned into Tabi’s hand, seeking more of her soft touch on his cheek.
“You’re not going to see my smile anytime soon. So, this should make up for it.”
Evbo swallowed nervously, absorbing her words. He didn’t lean in to capture her lips in another kiss, but rather embrace her, melting into her body. Tabi plagued his body and soul entirely, there’s no such thing as going back now.
He had whined something small underneath his breath but it was muffled against Tabi’s gray sweater. She couldn’t quite catch it (she wished she did), but she assumed it was something along the lines of, “I love you.”
And to which she muttered, reluctantly, “I love you too, Evbo.”
