Chapter Text

The second school year was starting. Nakamura walked to the board, curious on who shall be in the same class as him.
He looked at the names, looking for only one besides his own.
Todoroki, Reiko, Aiki Hirose.
Hirose.
Reading that name Nakamura got exited. Smiling ear to ear, like a winner, since, well, this was a win in his book. Same class as his crush and friend, Hirose.
For the last year Nakamura had had the greatest crush on Hirose. His beautiful smile that could brighten up the whole world, his eyes, his kindness, his beautiful brown hair. He loved everything about him. The way he looked when focused, the way he smiled with him, the way the slight redness reached his face when talking to Nakamura, the way Hirose considered him the one he could tell everything, the only one to watch romance movies with.
His thoughts were interupted when someone bumped into him.
"Sorry for that. Oh hey Nakamura!" Hirose said to Nakamura.
"Long time no see! When was the last time? last week?"
"something like that..." Nakamura said, kind of mumbling--- looking at the tips of his shoes.
"Hm?" Hirose bended over and looked at Nakamura in the eyes.
Nakamura almost jumped and straightened his back blushing, while Hirose laughed.
"Hahaha" He laughed. "We seem to be in the same class, we need to hurry up!" he stated while smiling--- starting to head toward the class. Nakamura hurried after him.
There's one thing that nakamura was sad about, the one thing that didn't ruin Hirose, but rather ruined Nakamura. Nakamura was gay, Hirose isn't. At least that is what is to be expected. Hirose had dated once before and that one partner was a girl. He was straight of course, everyone was. Nakamura was the odd one out.
"Nakamura, let's walk home together, ok?" Hirose interupted Nakamura's thoughts.
Hirose asking him to walk home together? It was almost always the other way around.
"Of course!" Nakamura said, without thinking. The thing was, Nakamura had biked to school. Well, he can always just walk his bike untill they part.
The day passed. Nakamura sat next to Hirose in few classes. In those few classes Nakamura couldn't focus. He just kept glancing at Hirose. He looked the best, nothing imperfect on his face as he focused on the school work, even though he occasionaly commented something to Nakamura.
The school ended, Hirose waited for Nakamura by the gate. From Hiroses bag hung a crab keychain. The sunset hit Hiroses face, giving it an orange glow. In Nakamura's eyes it could've been an angel waiting for him by the gate, but no. It was his friend and crush, Aiki Hirose.
Nakamura walked towards Hirose.
"Oh wait, didn't you come to school by a bike today? I can just walk home alone. I can't keep up with a bike anyways!" Hirose stated. Fuck. He did come to school by a bike. He forgot.
"Oh wait, I did. I- I can just walk the bike! You don't have to go home alone!" Nakamura hurried. He wouldn't waste any possible time with Hirose.
He hurried to get his bike, not wanting to leave Hirose waiting.
He was still waiting by the gate.
The started walking home together. Nakamura kept his bike by the side of the road and not between them so it didn't even have the possibility to hit Hirose.
"Nakamura, I'm so glad we are still in the same class. Oomori is in a different class so I'm glad I still have a good friend in the same class", Hirose said. Red rode to Nakamura's face. It was getting warm as the blood ran close to his skin.
This felt, confusing. Of course he was still just a friend, but even just a friendly appreciation was everything he needed. He could live of crumbs of attention, but instead he was considered a close friend.
"I'm happy to be in the same class as you also. I've never before had this good of a friend", he thought. Okay, he was just going to say it straight.
"I'm glad too", he said. Swallowing the rest of the sentence. He didn't want to overashare and make Hirose feel bad for him.
Hirose just laughed and smiled as he put his hand over his neck pulling him closer like a side hug. And so they walked as the sun let out it's few last strands of light shine to the boys' faces.

They had parted. Nakamura laid in his bed kicking his feet.
Hirose had given him something. Something small, he had said.
"You can have this", Hirose had said while not looking him in the eyes. "Since I didn't give you anything for christmas"
Nakamura held it in his hand. Hirose had already given him an octupus keychain when last year ended. It was a small picture book this time. It had a lot of pictures of octopuses. [octupussys. Sorry I had to] A tiny blueringed octupus, a mototi octopus, a wonderpus, coconut octopus and many other species. He had only gotten Hirose a pen. Hirose had insisted on giving him this book. Apparently it was going to get donated otherwise.
As he flipped through the pages, looking at the octupi, something fell out. A printed picture.
He couldn't help, but look at it.
The picture was nothing other than that one picture Mr.Otogiri had took of them on the trip. Sun setting, Nakamura blushing to his ears, hirose holding the crap keychain while smiling ear to ear. It must've been left in the book by accident.
Was that memory so important to Hirose to print it out?
Nakamura started blushing and kicking his feet even harder as he screamed to the pillow.
Just then he got a LINE message. It was from Hirose. It read:
"I forgot something in the picture book. Could you bring it to school tomorrow? It is one memory I'd like to keep."
His eyes widened. It was actualy an important memory to Hirose? That he and him are actualy friends.
Nakamura scareamed hard to the pillow. He is realy excited.
"Keep it down up there, Okuto!" Kana screamed from downstairs. She was waiting for their mom to finish making the food.
He debaited on what to respond. "I'll bring it to you tomorrow!" No, too excited. "I'll bring it tomorrow" too flat. "Of course I'll bring it!" too desperate. "of course I'll bring it" too mean sounding.
He ended up just sending a sticker of a cat with thumbs up.
He started typing a message. "I love you" as always he deleated the message. He always debaited sending that right, but never was it the right time. It would just ruin their friendship. Make it awkward. Friendzone, that was where he would stay. It was not like he could do anything about Hirose being straight. He was just like everyone else.

The day started. Nakamura relunctedly got out of bed. It was school, but at least he could see Hirose. Today he was walking to school, just for the off chance that Hirose would ask him to walk home together.
He packed his bag, making sure to bring the picture Hirose needed.
Just then he noticed, there was writing on the back.
The date of the picture, "me and Nakamura, china town. Officialy friends ^_^" Written in Hirose's handwriting. He could tell that handwriting from anywhere. Yesterday they had talked a small conversation over notes. Nothing important for us to note, not even important enough for me to even write in the day, but for Nakamura it was important. Those notes were burned into his mind, Hiroses handwriting and all. They were written just a bit sloppier than this picture. they were just the slightest bit sloppy, because of the octopus at the end of the pen gave it a slight weight. Just enough for Nakamura to notice it.
He took in the picture the last time before packing it to his bag.
He walked to school. He saw someone by the gates. Someone placed around 163cm (around 5'4 in hamburgers), with light fluffy hair. He hurried to Hirose who was waiting for him.
"Good morning, Hirose", Nakamura said to Hirose.
"Morning. Class is starting soon, we have to hurry up", Hirose said as he started walking towards the class with Nakamura, side by side.
His hand, so close, thought Nakamura. He almost grabbed Hiroses hand. He shook his head, No! that'd be to weird! He closed his eyes and looked away as their hands slightly brushed together. Hirose looked at him confused.
"what's up with you?" he slightly tilted his head. Of course Hirose found nothing weird. It was just two boys' hands brushing together. Not like a supposedly straight boy would care about it anyways. Holding hands between bro's wouldn't even be considered that weird. Just fujoshis like Kawamura and Yuuka would care about it. And of course Nakamura. He was just a weird person.
One who likes boys and stories about boys in love. Just like Miyano from Sasaki to Miyano. Exept Miyano got a boyfriend in the end, he and Hirose won't get anywhere. Just a straight boy and his gay best friend with the biggest crush on his best friend. What a torture!
They reached their class. The day just continued. Nothing of any weird fell on the way they walked untill.
Nakamura and Hirose were walking to the gym when something or someone came in their way.
"Nakamura!" the blue haired girl shouted dramaticly. "We need you for our ritual" She said grabbing his arm, starting to drag him towards the occult club.
"What, I have gym class!" he tried, but nothing could stop Reiko. She 'needed' him for the ritual. He though it'd be the the end of the discussion again when he felt someone grab his other hand.
"We have gym class!" Hirose said as he was pulling his arm.
"We have to go, right Nakamura?"
Nakamura was starteled that he was suddently being asked a question.
"Uh, yes. We have gym class"
"But we NEED Nakamura for the ritual! His dark aura would definetly attract spirits!" Reiko argued.
"But we have gym class!" Hirose said as he finaly pulled Nakamura so hard that Reiko's hand slipped. Nakamura had been pulled against Hirose. This caused Hirose to hit the wall with his body and Nakamura gathered himself.
He was so so so close. He was practicly pressed against Hirose's chest. Oh shit. He could hear Hirose's heartbeat, if he was not mistaken it was just abit faster than normaly. Of course it was, he has been starteled. Nakamura's face feels warm. He was propably as red as a tomato from the outside. He wanted to stay there, but he couldn't. He straightened himself up and apologised. That moment had felt like forever, but it lasted maybe 10 seconds.
Had he realy just been that close to Hirose while Hirose was pressed against the wall. Awkward.
