Chapter Text
Sendai, Miyagi
“Gramps… is gone” His voice shakes through the phone line, tears in his eyes threaten to spill. Sitting behind him on a stool is another teen with the same peachy hair. Two school bags pile on top of each other at the foot of the hospital bed.
Golden light from the windows shine through their untamed locks. The boy who just put down the phone walked to get closer to his twin brother, just to fall to the floor when his legs gave out. Resting his head on his brother’s lap, wiping hot tears on the coarse fabric of his school uniform.
“Ew…” Cold voice whispered but he moved his hand from supporting his stooped forehead to gently ruffle the fluffy hair. He wipes his own falling tears on the sleeve of his school uniform, the coarse fabric scratches his swollen eyes. But the pain on his face is nothing compared to the hollowing pain he feels in his chest.
Itadori Wasuke, their grandpa, guardian and the only family, is gone.
They both watched the nurses that had taken care of him for the past year roll him away to the morgue. They don’t have enough money to arrange a funeral nor do they have anyone that would come. It’ll be just the two of them to put his ashes into the urn after the cremation tomorrow afternoon.
The sound of cicadas filled the lonely familiar street they take to get home. The deep orange color of the twilight sky is still beautiful as ever. Contrary to the hollowed expression on both of their faces.
“Yuusuke… what are we gonna do?” His head stooped low, not paying attention to the familiar path ahead. His eyes only fixated on the heel of his brother’s sneakers steadily walking in front of him.
“What else? We'll keep on living, duh.” There was a hint of annoyance in his voice but he slowed down his step to match his brother’s. With both hands in his pockets, he still wears the usual grumpy mugs that resemble their grandpa's.
“Guessed you’d say that…” Yuuji sighed “Hey, are we gonna let that thing follow us home?” He speaks of the syringe-shaped monster with puss oozing out of its cylinder that has been following them since they left the hospital.
“Tsk,” Yuusuke clicked his tongue in annoyance before he turned around and held up a hand sign in the monster’s direction. “Dismantle” In a blink of an eye, the amalgamation behind that street light got sliced vertically in half and turned to dust.
“Thanks” The boy smiled.
“Mm” He rolled his eyes and took the next step forward.
Yuusuke has been able to use supernatural powers since he was a kid. Powers that can cut through things, a lot of things, even the one normal people couldn’t see. But his most useful usage of it according to Yuuji is to cut meat and vegetables for him to cook. Yuusuke believes wholeheartedly that Yuuji can also do the same but no matter how hard he tries to teach it to him, his brother just can't make it happen.
Weirdly enough, their encounter with ghosts increased rapidly since the day their gramps passed…
Inside a dulled gray meeting room, a statue of a man in his middle age sits crosslegged at the head of the tea table. Five others sit parallel to it, facing each other.
“So, what's up in Miyagi?” The man asked.
“Yes, both of them have no connection to any incidents outside of their neighborhood and their work place area. Fly head traps that we’ve used and other curses in the area confirmed they wouldn’t act if there are a lot of people nearby, doesn’t cause immediate harm to anyone or follow them for too long. Itadori Yuusuke demonstrates long range slashing technique with a lot of fire power. For Itadori Yuuji, he can very easily exorcise a third grade curse in his school. The report says he just–uh… punched it.” The man with deep bags under his eyes pushed his glasses up his nose bridge before he continued.
“Looking like a case of non-soccerer family anomaly that managed to learn how to control their curse technique and curse energy on their own and survived in normal society. Itadori Wasuke, their grandpa, is their only guardian, and has passed away on the day that a Window reports this incident.” He flips a page on the clipboard. “From the general estimation of their grade, Itadori Yuuji is easily a third grade soccerer by physical strength alone. As for Itadori Yuusuke, his estimate is a bit higher at semi-second grade to semi-first grade. His curse technique is really simple but his application and control of it makes it a really powerful one.”
The whole room goes quiet. The middle aged man seems to be in deep thoughts on his own as well as the other younger ones. All of their thoughts hit the same nail on the head. The higher ups definitely have their eyes on these two teenagers.
“Who is on scout duty this time, Ichiji?”
Two teenagers come back to sit on their dining table after sending the man in suits off the door. Documents gathered neatly into two piles, They have the details of the scholarships and a copy of their signed registration to the said school. The silence between them is the only answer they are willing to give to the world right now. They didn’t have a lot of choices. Part-time jobs don't pay much and even with government aid, it would be hard for them to be able to support themselves and study at the same time. Not to mention the hospital bill that is still left to be paid and the cremation service that cost surprisingly a lot.
“Yuususu…”
“Hmm,” Yuusuke responded to his childhood nickname and turned his whole body to face him fully. Even with a cold low voice, it carries affection.
“We… will be fine, right?” His big doe eyes reflecting lights but doesn’t look at the subject in the eyes. Thin brows pressed against each other, his lips shaking with every word.
He pulled his twin brother closer, making him rest his chin on his shoulder like how they used to do it and wrapping his arms around the waist. He can feel Yuuji grabbing his shirt tight. “Of course, we will. We’ve got each other.”

The same thin man in a black suit came to pick them up at the Tokyo train station. Next to him is a tall man wearing tinted glasses with white locks that sparkles under the light. They drove all the way to the outskirts of Tokyo and still had to climb up thousands of steps of torii covered stairs.
One more man in an all black outfit is already smiling and waiting for them at the top of the way. His long silky black hair tied up into a half up half down bun. “Welcome, our two newbies. I’m Geto Suguru, your teacher. Like that guy over there.”
Both bowed nicely to the man and introduced themselves briefly before following both teachers to the building in the middle of the school yard. The hall is dimly lit by big candles hanging high on the pillars. It was bright enough for them to see a rather big man sitting on a stool surrounded by cute colorful dolls. In his hands is another creation in the making.
“That’s our principal, Yaga Masamichi” Gojo Satoru took the liberty to introduce the man.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Itadori Yuuji. My type is Jenni—” Yuuji bowed and greeted the man just a moment before his mouth got slapped close by his brother's hand.
“My name is Itadori Yuusuke. It’s our pleasure to meet you, principal Yaga.” He pushed Yuuji’s head down with him. He doesn’t want this dumbass to embarrass him on the first day at school.
“Good… now who wants to go first?” The low husky voice speaks up.
“What are we doing?” Yuuji tilted his head to the side, confused.
“Practical interview.” the principal explained and gave a mean glare to his two former students in the back. “If you can’t choose then do it at the same time. Here, the red one will fight Yuuji, the blue one will fight Yuusuke.” Two Kappa dolls jumped at them at a high speed. They didn’t even get to blink before a heavy punch landed on their cheeks.
“What kind of doll is this thing? Packing quite a punch.” Yuusuke speaks through his teeth, rubbing the pain away from his bones. The doll dances in front of him, trying to get on his nerves. “Puppeteering with powers?” He whispered to himself after seeing the mass of black energy inside of the doll.
“Correct. The said power is cursed energy. I control these dolls with my cursed technique,” He then commands the dolls to start attacking again. “The condition you have fulfilled to make them stop attacking is to feed these little guys a sufficient amount of cursed energy.”
“Cutting it down will be sufficient.” Yuusuke smirks, shaping his hand into a hand sign. “Dismantle” The puppet got sliced in half. “Huh?” but the separating pieces start to morph into two new Kappa puppets.
“Like I said, the puppets will cease to function after it is fed cursed energy.” He cannot cut through every problem that comes his way. Yaga thinks. He felt he had the responsibility to teach and guide this youngling to wield his powers responsibly immediately after hearing of it from Ichiji. I need to drill it into him that Might doesn’t make Right.
“Tsk” He turned away, annoyed.
“Agh!” In the red corner, Yuuji was flung across the room before landing on a wooden pillar. The poor thing cracked upon impact. “That hurts! And how on earth would I know how to control this so-called cursed energy!?”
“You dumbass! I already taught you ages ago!” Yuusuke has the biggest frown on his face. He pulled one of his hands out of the pocket to wipe the embarrassment off his face and ran his fingers through his peachy hair.
“Just so you know, YOUR TEACHING SUCKS! ” Yuuji once again shouted.
The older one sighed again before walking menacingly behind the two Kappas dancing to Hawaiian music. He forcefully grabs both of their heads and pours his cursed energy through their tiny but mighty bodies. It wasn’t too long before the struggle stopped.
“Good. That will be your first lesson, Yuusuke.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
“It’s a yes, sir for you!” Yuuji shouted across the big room while struggling to put the puppet in a deadlock. In his mind, he frantically ran through every word Yuusuke had taught him but the older one's teaching never made sense. It only serves to make him more angry. Once his head was filled with the condescending smirks of his brother, the puppet finally stopped struggling against him.
“Hmph…” Yuusuke puffed his nose and rolled his eyes. “Yes, sir.” wanting to scratch the hell out of his undercut but the two Kappa puppets in his hands prevented him from doing so.
“That’s how you do it. Remember this feeling, you will need it.” Yaga stood up from the stool and walked towards the two new students. He bends down to give them an intimidating glare from behind the tinted lenses. “You two passed. But remember this, there will certainly be more challenging obstacles for you to face.” Yuuji gulps.
“Satoru, Suguru. Take them to the dorm.”

“So, why are these two guy’s rooms sandwiched mine?” Another student popped out of his room and complained to the white hair teacher. Hand’s over his mouth covering a yawn.
“It’ll be lively. Let’s make new friends, Megumi!” Gojo said enthusiastically.
“It’s an unwelcome favor.” Megumi said it plainly, to the disappointment of Gojo.
“It’s better to have a change in atmosphere every once in a while, isn’t it? I’m sure you three will get along well.” Geto put his hand on Gojo’s shoulder and chimed in to do his part in convincing their son into making new friends. “Yuuji, Yuusuke, meet Fushiguro Megumi. He’ll be your classmate.”.
“Sigh… I’ll do it just because you say so, Geto-sensei. Hi, call me Fushiguro, nice to meet you.” In the same breath that he sulked, Megumi put his hand out to greet the newcomers.
“I’m Itadori Yuuji and this is my twin brother Yuusuke. Super nice to meet you, Fushiguro!” Yuuji shakes his hand and Megumi has to squint his eyes in front of this ray of sunshine who’s smiling so brightly.
“Nice to meet you.” Yuusuke said calmly. “I’ll go unpacking.” He waved goodbye to all of them before putting his hand back in his pocket and walking north to his room.
“You know from Satoru, they’re new to the Jujutsu world. Take care and look out for each other, alright?” Suguru smiled and patted Megumi’s shoulders in a gentle rhythm. Not paying attention to his sulking husband in the back.
“Yes. I’ll try my best.” He yawned, once again. “I need to catch up on my sleep. See you guys at dinner.”
“Yes, dear. Have a good rest.” He waved the teen off.
“We’ve four kids and all of them only listen to you. This is not fair!” Gojo cries out quietly, trying not to disturb his youngest. His lips pouted. “I raised them too, you know.”
“You guys have four kids? Wait, Fushiguro is your kid?” Yuuji’s interest is very much piqued.
“Yes but it’s a long story. Why don’t I tell you when we go tour the school with your brother?” Suguru teased.
He salutes. “Oh, yes! I want to hear your story!”
As it turns out, his two senseis adopted two children each very early in their lives under different circumstances and raised them together. Three of which are soccerers and studying at the Jujutsu High. Their third daughter, Fushiguro’s step-sister isn’t, and is studying in a normal high school.
“The world can be cruel to those who are different.” Suguru speaks softly. “We try our best to give them comfortable lives and for them to have freedom of choice.”
“And to protect their youth.” Satoru chimed in.
“Yes, that is the most important.” He smiles, his voice sweet.
“You guys sound exactly like our gramps.” Yuuji said quietly, staring at the ground again. “Really, your words reminds me of him”
“Too bad, that old man’s a goner.” Yuusuke grabs the top of Yuuji's head and pulls back.
“Yeah, and you cried.” Yuuji yanked his brother’s hand off of him.
“You also cried.”
“I can hear you sniffling last night.”
“Well, some glutton doesn’t eat his share for three meals straight.”
“You are the glutton! Do you know how much I have spent on eggs alone?!”
“And I contributed more than half to the grocery money. Your one third doesn’t weigh much here.”
“And who do you think keeps the lights on and the water running!”
