Why are we in a tragedy?

Summary:

A poem in Patroclus’ perspective about why he can’t just be happy with his boyfriend, sort of. Something I wrote to post for Midsummer/the summer solstice.

Notes:

I wanted to post something for the summer solstice/Midsummer/anything else you can celebrate at this time of year. Så glad midsommar, alla, and/or something similar/different!
Since I got this idea on the 18th of June (Midsummer is the 19th), I didn’t have time to get good ideas, write something at all long, or get it beta-read. So this is a poem, probably a bad one.
Note that I’m a non-native English speaker and dyslexic.

Work Text:

Ten years of this fucking war

Seeing the man I adore

Covered in all of this gore

I would’ve let out a plea

If fate could give me the key

To set my love to be free

Why could he not escape fate?

Not be burdened with this weight?

Not be cursed with burning hate?

If we could live again, please:

Do not make us fight for Greece

Just let us live in love’s peace
