Work Text:
Pat watches as Korn throws his head back, laughing at something Pran says, and warmth swims through his stomach.
He's glad that two of his best friends are getting along.
Especially considering the fact that Pran has a bit of a crush on Korn.
It's kind of weird to see, to know, even.
But it's also hilarious.
"You seem pretty happy to see them close together, considering we all thought you and Pran were going to end up dating," Wai says it gently as he settles next to Pat, leaning against the bar while holding out a beer to him.
"Pran and I are friends," Pat rolls his eyes as he takes the beer and lifts it to his lips. After taking a full swig, feeling some of the golden liquid spill out of the corner of his lips, he lets his mind ponder the idea. "Maybe in another life we would date, but in this one? I just don't see him as anything more. Someone else caught my eye anyway."
"Oh? Don't tell me it's someone from our faculty," Wai groans with it, but his voice is all teasing curiosity.
That's probably why it slips out like it does, a soft murmur falling from Pat's lips as he watches Pran and Korn attempt to play pool again, "Yes, actually. Not that I'll ever do anything about it."
"Why wouldn't you do something about it?" Wai seems more interested than Pat initially suspected, leaning closer until their arms are pressed together, head tilted in his direction and everything. "It's kind of silly to sit with something like that when you could take a chance, right?"
"Taking a chance seems just as silly when you think the person you like actually hates you. Or, at the very least, tolerates you," Pat's arguing a bit now, not that he really means to, but while Wai has a point, he has his own reasons too.
"Does that mean I actually have a chance?" Wai's almost breathless as he replies, brows raising.
"You— Do you want to have a chance?" asks Pat softly.
"I do actually," replies Wai as he dips his head forward.
"You were the only one who could," Pat's voice is quiet but firm.
There was never anyone else it could've been.
Not to Pat.
"Good," whispers Wai as he twists to look at Pat fully, smiling when Pat cups his pink cheek in a warm hand. "Let me take you on a date on our next free day?"
"I'd love that," replies Pat with a bright smile that makes his cheeks hurt. "I can plan it, if you want. I know you have some big exams this week."
"I would love that, but I've got the next one," Wai's smile makes Pat's heart beat into his throat happily.
That damn smile.
Wai takes the hand from his cheek and laces their fingers together as Korn hollers for them to join the party again, and for the rest of the night, their fingers stay entangled.
