Chapter Text
Sungho has always imagined what it would be like to fall in love with someone. Since teenager, he couldn’t help but daydream of having movie dates or simply holding hands with the significant other. He viewed how life would be perfect and complete when living with someone he loved when he grew up.
And yet, here he was, in his mid twenties and drinking his coffee with the colleagues in some open space area after office.
“I still can’t believe you just resigned, I mean good for you though but still..” Sungho said and sighed, losing one of his lunch break buddies when having little to no friends at work will be hard for him to cope with.
Riwoo replied with a tight-lipped smile and shrugged his shoulders. “Well, you know my reasons. The last month was my final straw to pull up with that boss’ bullshit.”
“Yeah, no shit. I’m thinking of resigning too now that you said it.” Sungho said spontaneously, then he paused himself and leaned back “But I still need money to pay up my subscriptions, those are getting more expensive each day and I still need them to survive. Oh gosh”
Jaehyun threw a laugh at Sungho’s realistic reason. “Don’t get too consumed by those overpriced apps, Sungho. I promise you it’s not worth it.”
“Agree. You can just throw the money for your dates or whatever, anything but those useless apps.” Riwoo added and then munched his cake.
“Bold of you to assume I have one.”
Their table suddenly goes silent, the only thing that they can hear is the chattering sounds and music as backsounds.
“You don’t?!” Both Jaehyun and Riwoo instantly ask, almost too loud that their surroundings peek at their table for a short time.
Riwoo then coughed, he just dumbly shouted when he was still munching. Jaehyun, who was still in shock, gets back to reality and immediately slides the water bottle to his friend’s table.
In front of them, the man was just silently finishing his drink, not aware that his friends had accidentally made a scene after hearing the answer he just gave.
“What? I thought you knew already.” Sungho said casually. “I never had one in my life, so I gave up searching for it. As long as I have money, why bother?”
“You didn’t mention it before, hello??” Jaehyun replied while Riwoo was busy drinking the water to get rid of the cough. “We thought you were already taken since you always decline our division dinner. It’s only you who refuses to join and said you already made plans for that night, and what I meant is every night we had a joint dinner.” He continued to talk about it until Riwoo fully recovered from the short cough.
“Ok. Ehm. So you have no one right now? Want me to send you to any blind dates? I mean, I have friends that you might find interesting to meet. Or have you tried those dating apps? I don’t recommend it but–” Riwoo busily listed every possible way for his friend to meet the love of his life in such a short time.
“Already try all of it, doesn’t worth it.” Sungho shakes his head, he promises himself that he will stop playing dating apps after meeting countless weird people in that place. He did it, and now he is 2 years clean from that app. Blind dates are also on the list, he doesn’t prefer it cause sometimes it feels forced and desperate. It feels like love is an urgency that you need to have as soon as possible, and Sungho hates it.
All he wants is just experiencing simple organic love that slowly grows out from ordinary places with no technologies and urgencies involved.
Jaehyun then rested his head in hands and said, “Yeah, dating apps do sucks sometimes. But I met my boyfriend there so all I can say is that not all people from that app are bad.”
“Congrats for you. I once matched with a guy and he was a freak in a negative way.” Sungho places his eyes through the crowd far from their table, “There are so many bad memories and I just don’t have the energy to go through the same shit again, you know?”
“I rather live like the way I am now than hoping for a random guy on the internet, it’s such a waste of–”
The loud cheering crowd that filled the near stage startled the three guys in suits. Heck it doesn’t look like a stage, it is just a crowd of people that circled around the center area to watch a busking performance.
“Thank you for stopping by everyone! We truly appreciate it, and we didn’t expect to make such a crowd tonight! Thank you again and hope you have the best night tonight.”
The three friends tried to see who the performers were but the crowd was too big. “Busking? Too bad we missed it.” Jaehyun said, looking through his phone to look at the time.
The same crowd then started to scatter, people continued their walk around the area after listening to the band. Now, they can see the band arranging their things to wrap up their night.
Sungho lingers his eyes through the band, sees a guy with a rock t-shirt and black hair busy placing up his guitar to his bag.
Wow, who’s that?
“What a beautiful face..” He thinks out loud. Well, maybe a little too loud.
Both of his friends stare at Sungho and then follows his eyes' direction to see the target.
“Oh, I see the vision.”
“Yeah, pretty handsome. But, my boyfriend is prettier.”
“Huh? What?” Sungho didn’t realize what he said and saw Riwoo locking up his view to the same band while Jaehyun just took a single peek and then continued playing with his phone.
“So that guy is your type, huh? It’s valid.” Riwoo nodded, “The contrast would be cute too if I can imagine it. A 9 to 5 burned out office worker dating a guy who is in a band and has a free life? Yes, ok, very cute, very romantic.”
“The fuck you talking about?” Sungho stares blankly at Riwoo. “It’s just an objective compliment, I know everybody who saw him up close will think the same thing.”
Besides, he would be the perfect face claim for my later fake scenario before bed activity.
And that, Sungho will choose to just keep it inside so his friends won’t find him weird.
“Guys, I gotta go. I miss my boyfriend and want to go to his place.” Jaehyun took his bag and stood up. “See you on Monday, Sungho. And see you when I see you, Riwoo. Let’s hang out together soon” He pats both Sungho and Riwoo’s hair and flees out, leaving the two of them alone.
“And he’s out.. Shall we call it a day too?” Riwoo looks at Sungho.
He grabs his bag and the finished cup of coffee, “Sure, we had a long day today.” He stands up, waiting for his friend to take his things. “Jaehyun’s right, we should hangout again sometime. The office would be so empty without you.”
“Blame the boss, not me.” He grabs his phone. “But we really should, just don’t delete my contact or I’ll tell Jaehyun that you’re actually not sick last week and lying about your absence.”
“Hey! Don’t bring that up please.” Sungho placed his palm on his face. “Same goes to you, don’t just erase mine cause we don’t have work together anymore.”
Riwoo laughs, “Just kidding,” He stands up and both of them start to walk, leaving the area. “No worries, let me know if anything comes—“
“Hi there, sorry for bothering you. But do both of you have a spare charger that I can borrow? I forgot to bring mine and it will only take for ten minutes, until my phone is up again. But it’s totally okay if you don’t have one.”
A guy suddenly pops out in front of Sungho and Riwoo. He is the same guy who has a face that is pleasing to Sungho's eyes, not really cute but distractingly handsome.
Oh, he looks more attractive up close.
“Oh. Uh. Yeah, sure. Wait…” Sungho opens his bag, messily searching for the needed cable. He finds it. “Here, you can take it with you first. I still have a spare at home.” He gave it to the rock guy.
He, in fact, doesn’t have a spare cable at his place.
“Really? If you are not in a rush, you can wait for five minutes only. I mean, I only need to charge 10% so I can go home.” The black hair guy feels a little guilty.
“It’s totally okay, we’re kinda in a rush too right now. You can give it back anytime we stumble upon each other again.”
Riwoo is still in this scene and apparently, he’s very enjoying the front row seat of this show.
“But how?” The band guy asked, “Uh, my band performs here every Wednesday and Friday at 6pm.” He scratched his neck. “If that helps…”
“Perfect! My office is near to this place, I can pick it up after I’m done with work.” Sungho said, pointing his finger to the tall tower beside the compound space. “There. I work there, so no need to worry.” He smiles at the taller guy.
“Ohh, great! Thank you so much for your kindness, Sir. I will make sure to give this back to you on Wednesday. See you!” The rock guy smiles happily and waves his hand to the both guys as he turns around to go back to his friends.
Sungho and Riwoo look at each other.
“Did he just call me Sir?”
“You better delete that resignation letter draft tonight.”
Shit. I think I’m screwed.
