Summary
When jungin (sometimes) mapmaker Namjoon finds a hidden water source to help a drought-stricken village, he doesn't expect to uncover secrets and lies, meet mythical beings, fight a government built on both, all while falling in love multiple times
*Or:* a found-family fantasy about the orphan boy (with a tragic backstory) off the streets of Seoul who grew into the man who mapped a country, and is drawn, one village at a time, into a war between the maps the state allows to exist and the ones that tell the truth. Along the way he gathers a wealthy benefactor who'd burn his own name down for the cause, a soldier who trusts a map more than his own commanding officers, a woodcarver with more secrets than scars, a smuggler who'd rather not be found, and a host of mythical beings who were never as gone as the nobility liked to pretend, while discovering a gift in his own hands he never had a name for.
He grew up believing accuracy was the only thing that could never hurt anyone. He's about to learn that's not quite true, and that some lines, once drawn, can't be taken back.
