Chapter Text
Directly after the fantasy adventure, Jax made her way up to Ribbit's room. As she looked inside, she was amazed by the mere size of the room. She absolutely won the room lottery when she arrived to the circus. She's seen Ragatha's, even hers isn't that big.
"Wo... That adventure was fun." Ribbit said, clicking the starlight across the room on. 'Holy [Squeak] that's nice- wait why are my thoughts censored?' Jax thought to herself as she looked across the roof on the bedroom. Jax looked back down and smiled, he leaned on the back wall.
"I'm glad I could make you happy during it." She chuckled. She waltzed over to her bedside before being dragged down by the hand by Ribbit.
"Wow! Easy... Easy!" Jax chuckled as he fell onto the soft bed. She hit her head on the pillow. It was a cold pillow. Arguably the best type of pillow. Jax's eyes peered at Ribbit, there was a twinkle in her eye that sparked brief mischief. She grabbed her by the neck and pulled her onto the bed beside her, laying her down. She gasped in surprise and giggled.
"Jax~" she said as she picked herself back up so she is sitting upwards. She rubs her head, messing up her ears. Jax rebends her ears to normal. The two chilled out in the room for, maybe a minute. Ribbit then asked the question.
"Do... Do you have any thing you regret." She asked. Her eyes stared off into the distance.
"Yeah... You ever breathed air?" Jax replied back snarkily. The answer caused Ribbit to burst out laughing. Jax smiled back at her, 'Please tell me that diverts that question. I do not want to open that can if worms, ever honestly', she thought in her mind. Ribbit looked back at her.
"Seriously though, like something you wish to fix in your real life." Ribbit said. Jax's eyes dialated in worry. Jax whipped her head away. She could already feel tears forming but she brushed it off. All of a sudden Ribbit started talking. Jax was a bit scatterbrained from panic but she caught the part with the devout Mormon parents. After listening to all of that, Jax looked at her before darting her eyes back at the shelf across from herself.
"I-Is this your way if trying to get me to open up?" Jax said, gesturing her right hand. Ribbit grabbed her left.
"It's my way of letting you now that I trust you." Jax blushed slightly.
"What do you want to even know. I already told you I was homeless, e-everything else is a lot...." Jax said, drifting off in her sentence. Her eyes shrank as they happened, like by a noticeably concerning amount. It's fairly common knowledge in the circus that her eyes were gimmick like in terms of appearance. It's almost like they change via a dial.
Ribbit smiled softly towards her in a comforting manner. "Well, a like a lot.... A lot is fine."
"Heh 'A lit is fine.' alright." Jax repeated back to herself. She looked down, took a deep breath... or two... or three. Then she just started. Her heart felt like it was hitting every rib in her body but she ignored it for now. She went on and on. Ribbit simply sat and listened, sometimes having a twinkle of "...oh my... Wow." in her eye.
At the end, there was silence. Deafening silence. The only thing she could hear was her heart, her lungs, and her brain, which was the only thing she didn't want to hear. Her mind started racing like a hurricane in a blizzard. Why a blizzard? She doesn't no but her head definitely hurt like one face her brain freeze.
"O-Oh my- This was a mist- I definitely overshared-" She jumped off the bed getting ready to run. However, something cold wrapped around her gloves hand before she could. Ribbit's hand. She looked back at her and just started tearing up.
"Hey, I'm glad you trust me." She whispered. Jax muttered something under her breath before sitting back down. The two sat there for approximately 30 seconds but to Jax, felt like minutes. Ribbit looked down at her body, taking off the bow from her neck. It was coloured in a hot pink. Jax felt it go on her head. She looked up and her face instantly went turned the same colour as the bow. Her eyes widened as she looked towards Ribbit.
"Your secrets safe with me." Jax was shocked, she didn't even say she was trans but then again she is talking to the only non-binary person here, she probably knows more about coming out then most people she's met. For a fleeting moment, she relaxed. She all of a sudden didn't care or worry. Her spine unstressed, her face lowered. It was calm.
But then there was a knock on the door.
Jax stood up in shock and took off the bow, throwing it.
"Y-yeah, hello?"
Kaufmo was in the other side of the door. She could tell. "Oh, is this a bad time."
"Ye-No... [SQUEAK] , uh- look what do you want!"
"If it is a bad time, I'll come back later."
"Yeah.... Good." Jax muttered as Kaufmo walked off. Jax looked back at Ribbit. Her breathing tensed. Her eyes instantly shrank as her heck felt like it started to close.
Jax tried to shove the bow back towards Ribbit but tripped onto the floor. She looked up at Ribbit and immediately broke down. Ribbit was taken aback towards everything but jumped off the bed upon seeing Jax crumple in her room.
"Oh my.... Hey you good?" She asked. Jax looked up and she saw eyes she hasn't saw since Jax first arrived. They took the appearance of scribbles in his yellow eyes. Jax nodded her head to the sides briefly before shoving her head into her knees. Ribbit had a hand slightly outstretched to her but retracted it. She opted to sit down next to her as she started to cry. She couldn't do much- she didn't know what to do in this situation. She just waited for her, while putting a arm around her. Jax managed to recompose herself a little bit, at least to the point if talking.
"I... I remember my first time doing this too." Ribbit said, though quieter then before. Jax lifted her head up and looked at her, tears still rolling down her face.
"My parents honestly weren't pleased. It's one of the reasons I cut ties with them."
"Oh..." Jax muttered through his mouth, still heavily breathing. "W-well .. I-I think you're g-good." She said, looking away from her
Ribbit smiled back at her and pulled her in closer. "And you're the same way." Ribbit said, plopping the bow back on Jax's head. Jax couldn't help but chuckle at least a little bit.
They stayed there for actual minutes this time around. Jax stood up, bringing Ribbit up with. Jax toon the his off.
"Do you- uh- want this?"
"Nah. Caine would probably just give me another either way." She said rolling their eyes. She guided Jax's hand back towards herself with the bow. Jax turned pink in the face and smiled back towards her.
