Work Text:

Coy had always loved shiny objects and miscellaneous little trinkets, and the coin in front of him was sparking that love.

His tail started to slowly flick around behind him as he watched people walk by it, waiting to run over and pick it up as soon as no one was there.

Once no one was near the coin, he almost pounced over to it before he stopped himself. His ears were flicking in every direction, making sure no one was coming to steal his coin before he could get it.

Once he was sure the coast was clear, Coy darted forward and scooped up the coin before anyone else could get any ideas.

It wasn’t even particularly valuable. Just a small silver coin, dulled around the edges from years of use. But it caught the sunlight just right, sending bright flashes across the pavement.

“Pretty…” He mumbled, turning it over in his fingers, watching as it reflected the light. His tail flicked happily.

“Coy.”

Coy nearly launched himself into orbit as he jumped several feet off of the ground.

He whipped around to find Hanbon standing a few metres away, hands in her pockets and a small grin spreading across her face.

“What?” He grumbled, annoyed he’d been caught in the act.

“You looked like you were stalking prey!” She giggled and skipped up to him, looking at his tail flicking behind him.

“I was not.” Coy mumbled and his orange ears flattened against his hair, now feeling slightly embarrassed that she saw him doing that.

Hanbon looked at him unimpressed, her fluffy tail wagging back and forth behind her. “Don’t play with me Coy! You absolutely were!”

Coy slipped the coin into his pocket, trying to hide it from her. But, her eyes immediately followed the movement.

“What’s that? What did you find? Can I see it?” Her ears perked up immediately and tried to figure out what he had, and her tail was now wagging as fast as it could.

“Nothing, I didn’t find anything.” Coy straightens his posture and his ears flick up to go to the side.

“Coyy…” Hanbon whines and her tail comes to wrap around her leg, almost as if she was begging to see what he had.

He sighed and grabbed the coin out of his pocket, and handed it to her . “It’s a coin. I found it on the ground, so it’s mine now.”

She giggled, "I don't think that's how it works.” She turned her head to inspect the coin, eyes widening as the sun caught on it.

“Well… It does now. It’s mine.” He grumbled and his tail flicked behind him, he was annoyed by her correct logic.

Hanbon giggled again before handing the coin back. “You know, most people would just walk past stuff like that.”

“Most people are boring, and not awesome like me.” Coy answered and puffed his chest out as if he was the coolest person ever.

“You’re my favourite gay twink, Coy.” Hanbon tilted her head, and her lips pulled into that unmistakable fox-like smile of hers.

Coy ignored her and flipped the coin back into his pocket, patting it once to make sure it was still there. Satisfied, he started walking again.

“So… Who’s that one for?” Hanbon asked while trying to match his steps.

Coy’s ears twitched. “What?”

“The coin!” She chirped, and nodded to him.

“It’s… It’s for me…” He sounded like he was questioning her, unsure of what she meant.

“Sure it is.” Coy didn’t even have to look at her, he could already feel the somewhat judgment radiating off of her.

They walked in silence for all of ten seconds before Hanbon spoke up again.

“Anthony’s gonna like that one.”

Coy nearly tripped over his own feet, and his tail puffed up slightly. “What?”

“The coin.” She answered and watched him carefully, with an expression Coy couldn’t quite place.

“The coin?” His voice came out a few octaves higher than normal and his ears perked up.

“Yeah!” Hanbon nodded. “It’s shiny. He’ll think it’s cool, you know what he likes.”

Coy looked away, and the worst part was she was right. The thought had crossed his mind almost immediately and not because it was for Anthony.

Just because, well… Anthony liked cool things, shiny things, and weird little trinkets. Coy loved seeing his face whenever he brought him something new, because he always got ridiculously excited.

That didn’t mean anything, probably.

“You’re thinking about it.” She sang at him and watched his face turn a dark red.

“I’m not.” He muttered and tried to calm down his warming face. It didn’t work.

“You so are.” Hanbon giggled at him and nudged her shoulder into his, and Coy could feel the insinuation of what she was saying.

“I’m so not.” Coy retorted and glared at her, with his ears pointing to the side.

“You are.” She sang at him again and he shoved his hand back into his pocket, playing with the coin.

“I’m literally not.” He grumbled at her, and he noticed how much he seemed to be grumbling at her.

Hanbon’s grin widened, “Coy.”

“What?” He whined and his tail curled around his leg, he gave up on trying to not seem embarrassed.

“You have the same face every time you get embarrassed.” She wagged a finger at him as she spoke, and Coy wasn’t sure what she was trying to get across.

“I have different faces.” He pouted at her and tried to show her his different face, but she wasn’t counting that as different.

“You really don’t.”

Coy groaned, and ahead of them Anthony and Will were sitting on a bench outside of a small cafe.

Anthony was talking animatedly about something, and his hands were moving everywhere as he spoke. His fluffy shepherd tail swished behind him, occasionally smacking into the side of the bench.

Will looked unbothered, as usual. His small Capybara ears were flicking every few minutes, a small signal he was listening.

Anthony spotted them immediately. His ears perked up, then his tail started wagging. Coy hated how easy it was to tell what Anthony was feeling.

“Coy!” Anthony called.

Hanbon made a strangled noise behind him, and Coy knew exactly why.

Anthony only wagged his tail like that around a handful of people, and Coy was unfortunately very high on that list.

Anthony hopped onto his feet and jogged over to the two. “Where’d you guys go?”

Hanbon answered before Coy could. “Coy was scavenging for loot.”

“I was not!” Coy exclaimed with fake shock, and immediately giggled straight after.

“You so were.” Hanbon said then immediately started to giggle with him.

Anthony looked delighted, “did you find anything cool?”

Coy’s hand moved to his pocket, and everyone immediately perked up to see what he got, even Will who had only just caught up to them.

“Coy found a coin!” Hanbon shouted before Coy could try and negate the attention. “Traitor,” he hissed at her.

Anthony’s eyes lit up. “A shiny one?”

Coy stared at him, and of course that was his first question. Anthony held out his hand, “can I see?”

Coy hesitated. It was his coin, and he found it. It belonged to him. But Anthony was looking at him with that stupid, hopeful expression.

With a sigh, Coy pulled the coin from his pocket and dropped it into Anthony’s palm.

He turned it over once, then twice. The sunlight flashed across the metal and his smile immediately warmed. “Oh, that’s awesome!”

Coy’s chest tightened with something warm and fuzzy, and it momentarily hurt with how giddy he was.

Anthony looked back up at him. “Good find.”

Coy’s tail gave a pleased flick before he could stop it, and Hanbon noticed immediately. Will gave him a raised eyebrow and took a sip of his drink.

And Anthony, completely oblivious, kept admiring the coin.
