UNNEEDED MATCHMAKER

Summary:

Yamaguchi completely forgot how an attractive and tall Tsukishima was bound to become the girls’ topic of crushes at one point, he had everything in his hands! Height, beauty, athleticism, and brain! He was a whole bundle everyone wanted, gender didn’t matter. And Yamaguchi understood that he couldn’t control it, it was out of his hands, but yet… how come he was now seething in jealousy? Was it because an unneeded matchmaker decided to barge into their comfort zone and make things more complicated? Probably.

Notes:

Work Text:

Tsukishima and Yamaguchi’s relationship shifted from platonic to romantic two months before their first-year started. Which meant, no one knew anything about how special they were to each other, no one knew about their usual hangouts that were actually secret dates during the summer, and no one knew how much time they’ve spent with each other on phone calls and the millions of messages they’ve sent to each other.

Both of them preferred it this way, both of them knew they owed nobody any explanation about their ongoing romantic relationship and they preferred it because it meant that they could be in their own little world and make their own little secret messages, gestures, and expressions towards each other.

But Yamaguchi completely forgot how an attractive and tall Tsukishima was bound to become the girls’ topic of crushes at one point, he had everything in his hands! Probably.

The convenience store is where both of them usually land after a tiring day of volleyball practice, it was quiet, cold, and had everything they needed. Yamaguchi pulled out the reheated meal he bought with Tsukishima and went to where his boyfriend sat on, he swiftly placed the hot food in front of him and noticed the serious expression his boyfriend had while looking at his phone. “What’s wrong?” Yamaguchi asked him as he sat down. Tsukishima sighed and massaged his temples, “Nothing much… just a lot of annoying people,” he reassured him but Tsukishima knew that he wasn’t satisfied with what he just told him. “There’s this guy in our class trying to invite me into some group date with girls in our class.”

Yamaguchi played with his food, “Did you accept?” Tsukishima sighed dramatically. “That’s the thing! I didn’t accept their invitation and now they’ve been harassing me about it all week.” he grabbed his phone and placed it in front of Yamaguchi, showing him all the messages their classmate sent him.

What’s up Tsukishima! Are you still up for the invite?

The girls would really like you to be there! Pretty please with cherry on top

I know you’re really busy with volleyball practice, but this won’t take so much of your time! Like it’s only two hours or three

Yamaguchi frowned upon seeing the persistent texts Tsukishima received about the group date. What’s so appealing about it anyway? It’s just an awkward three hour meetup with kids their age, Yamaguchi rolled his eyes and sighed. “Will he stop if you attend?” Tsukishima eyed his boyfriend, already knowing where this conversation would lead to, “Probably… but I really don’t plan on coming. It’ll hurt your feelings.” Yamaguchi smiled and pinched Tsukishima's cheek, his heart squeezing in warmth after knowing his boyfriend prioritized his feelings more than anyone, “I mean… it’s not like you’re actually gonna like someone in that meetup! You can just attend so they’ll stop bugging you.”

Tsukishima looked at him, still unsure if he’s actually gonna do this, there was no reward, well, maybe they’ll stop harassing him. But, he didn’t wanna risk any of the girls actually developing genuine feelings for him! Sure, he’ll reject them easy as that, but he also didn’t want to do that because it was just a waste of time and easily avoidable! Avoidable by not attending that group date in the first place. Yamaguchi noticed Tsukishima thinking so hard about what he was gonna do, he found it kind of funny how he treated it so seriously. For comfort, he held Tsukishima’s hand and caressed it. “I’m serious, I trust you.”

Tsukishima grumbled, “Fine.”

God, Tsukishima hated being at this table. It was filled with loud and rowdy students that had absolutely no self-awareness, they didn’t even feel the eyes of adults walking by and hearing about their topic and the volume of their voices. Tsukishima already knew the minute he walked with them, he was ready to go home. Matsuda, the person who was persistent with him attending didn’t even once greet him nor did he start small talk. All he did was look at him and slobbered himself at the girls right after! But to be fair, it’s not like he’ll have the energy to talk back to him, if anything he’s the reason why he feels his rage and anger.

“Tsukishima-kun, are you feeling alright?”

Tsukishima directed his attention to the voice and saw this girl walking right beside him, he didn’t respond verbally and just nodded. All his energy, life, and spirit was sucked out with the ruckus the group already did earlier that day. The girl giggled a bit and kept walking beside him, his biggest fear was closer than he liked it to be and he could feel it, he just wished he could yell at everyone in that group about his adorable boyfriend that he started dating a few months ago, and how his biggest desire in life was to marry him.

All of them entered a ninety’s themed diner that you would often see in vintage movies. After finding a seat to sit on, Tsukishima felt kind of amazed at how all of their voices kept in the same volume as it was earlier. Seriously, all these teenagers were real monsters and Tsukishima saw other students in other schools during the times he competed. He sat down near the exit just in case something bad was bound to happen and with such a big group like this, he wasn’t surprised if something did happen.

The girl that talked to him earlier was seated right next to him, he didn’t wanna assume nor did he want to paint the girl as someone desperate, but all he hoped was that it was nothing but a mere coincidence. He pulled out his phone and found out Yamaguchi sent him a message two hours ago, he swerved to the opposite of where the teenagers sat in hopes that other people wouldn’t see his screen and see the message he and Yamaguchi had exchanged. Maybe he could use Yamaguchi as an excuse to get away from the awkward group date. But to his disappointment, all Yamaguchi sent to him was a GIF of a cat saying ‘Good luck!’, preventing him from making his escape plan happen.

“You’ve been out of it since earlier Tsukishima-kun, how are you feeling?” the girl beside asked, might as well start small talk to make the day right? And it’s not like this’ll happen again in the near future, Tsukishima knows it’ll be the first and last time. “I’m alright, thanks.” the girl smiled after finally making him talk and breaking the cold borders he had since earlier, making him a bit comfortable where he was sitting. Tsukishima eyed and examined her just for a bit, she was normal looking. The same short bob paired with bangs half of the students had in the school, but during this day she had it tied up. She wore glasses that were oval-shaped, but what caught him off guard was the fact she had freckles just like Yamaguchi.

The day was getting better every minute he was there thanks to the girl who gave him company, in a friendly way of course. He just prayed and hoped it stayed that way after this meeting, if anything it was better if they cut any physical or verbal contact right after this group date.

“I’m glad you had fun!”

“Yeah… surprisingly.”

“Did you make any good friends at least?”

“This girl talked to me the whole time, I guess my feeling eased off during it. I wasn’t filled with anger anymore.”

“A girl?”

“Yeah. Now that I remember it, I didn’t even ask for her name.”

“What! Why not?!”

“In hopes we wouldn’t talk anymore after it.”

“That’s not very gentle-like of you Tsukki… you should’ve asked for her name at least. There was a friend that kept you company!”

“I wouldn’t call her a friend of mine, you’re my only friend after all.”

“Oof! We’re in a relationship and I still end up getting friendzoned…”

Tsukishima laughed at his remark.

“You know what I meant.”

“Yeah! But what about Hinata or Kageyama? Or maybe our seniors?”

“Yeah… no. I’m not friends with two of those idiots, and the seniors… well they’re just seniors, nothing more.”

“So you admit you’re a loner?”

“I don’t see the term “loner” in a negative light if I’m with you.”

Tsukishima immediately laughed loudly after throwing a pick-up line towards Yamaguchi. On the other line, Yamaguchi’s expression was nothing but disgust, but his red face didn’t match his expression though.

“You’re so cheesy Tsukki…!”

Two days after the group date, Matsuda thankfully stopped bugging Tsukishima after. Which meant it was finally peace and quiet in the little bubble he had with Yamaguchi, hanging out with him and taking classes without his phone vibrating with countless notifications of useless messages from people he didn’t know and associate with.

After his class in chemistry, Yamaguchi went in front of him and was about to talk when Matsuda suddenly cut him off. “Tsukishima!” he smiled widely and stood beside Yamaguchi. Tsukishima had the nastiest look known to man-kind as he looked at that person, not even bothering on greeting back. “Hit it off with Aoi-chan huh? You interested in her? I’ll hook you up!” Tsukishima sighed and shook his head in disagreement, “No… I’m good, thanks.” he grabbed his bag and stood up when Matsuda stopped him, “Come on! She’s already asking for your Instagram, ease up a bit!” this time Tsukishima completely ignored him and grabbed Yamaguchi’s wrist, making both of them escape from the awkward situation.

Tsukishima sighed and placed down his bag on the gymnasium floor, “I’m sorry about that.” Yamaguchi patted his shoulders, “For what?” he sat down on the floor and wiped his sweat, “That… guy has the nastiest attitude ever, so I’m sorry you had to witness that whole thing.” Yamaguchi chuckled and sat next to him, putting his head onto his shoulders. It was a way to comfort a raging Tsukishima on the inside, he might not show it but Yamaguchi knew it was in the deepest part of his body. “It’s fine really, let’s just ignore him.” Tsukishima nodded and laid his head on top of his boyfriend’s shoulders. This was the peak of life to him, having the love of his life near him and no one else, no one really mattered anymore anyway.

After hectic volleyball practices with their teammates, it was finally time to pack up and end the day. Since both of them were athletes it meant that their dismissal time was later than a usual student, a usual student would get dismissed at 17:00 but for them, it was 20:00. That’s why both their eyes were wide when they found Matsuda camping outside the school entrance waiting for  Tsukishima. “Tsukishima!” Matsuda yelled out, Yamaguchi looked at his boyfriend with a worried expression, anyone could tell how uncomfortable they looked. “Matsuda.” he managed to blurt out. Matsuda smiled with teeth wide, still unable to tell the awkward atmosphere he caused. “Anyway… there’s another group date if you’d like to come with us! It’ll be the same people. Think of it as a second date!” he explained enthusiastically. Tsukishima looked at him with unemotional eyes and nodded, “You know you could’ve just texted me about this right? It’s kind of creepy with how you’re waiting here right now.” Matsuda chuckled, “If I chatted through your SNS then you would’ve ignored it! That’s why I thought it would’ve been better if I went here and waited!”

Tsukishima nodded, still unconvinced and looked at Yamaguchi hoping he had the same expression. He did, and it was more visible than his. Yamaguchi looked offended and disgusted after consuming the information that someone would wait for hours just to invite you to a stupid group date. Tsukishima massaged his temples and sighed in pure disappointment. “Look… uhm… I’ll just send a message to you instead of my answer. I’m still kind of busy with volleyball… friends… and studies.” his explanation that was a mask of lies. Matsuda nodded and finally waved his hands to bid goodbye, he was a weird kid like everyone said, Tsukishima just didn’t realize he was THAT weird.

Tsukishima looked at his boyfriend who was already staring at him, “I won’t… go y’know.” Yamaguchi shook his head and smiled half-heartedly, “No! It’s okay… absolutely okay for you to go!” Tsukishima raised his eyebrows and looked at him confusingly. If he were to attend a mixer while already in a relationship, then what was the point of going there? Mixers weren’t held to make friends with everybody in there, it was held to find potential partners to spend life with! So there was no reason for Tsukishima to attend such an event when he already has a boyfriend.

B-O-Y-F-R-I-E-N-D.

He just sighed with Yamaguchi’s reply, disappointment spreading across his mind and heart after knowing his boyfriend would easily let something like this slide. If Yamaguchi was the one who attended the mixer instead, Tsukishima swore he would’ve gone crazy and killed everyone in that mixer! “Let’s just go home.” Tsukishima whispered. Yamaguchi didn’t say anything and just nodded, he would be lying if insecurity wasn’t something he had.

CALLER ID: Hinata Shoyo

“So… you think it’s for his own good?”

Yamaguchi sighed with the question he asked, all his memories from earlier by the gate all came crashing down. He didn’t even know why he said that! If anything, he should’ve pleaded him not to go, but he admitted that his emotions got the best of him.

His guilt was eating him up alive after telling Hinata they were dating. After explicitly telling each other it would be kept secret. Well, he didn’t tell Hinata directly… the reason he found out about the relationship was because he accidentally saw a text message from Yamaguchi’s phone, and it was Tsukishima with the text: I love you :).

“Well… yes! I just think it would be nice to have friends that aren’t the same gender..?”

Shoyo laughed on the other line, and Yamaguchi knew that his explanation was all a bunch of bullshit.

“Yamaguchi… Mixers are made so that you can meet your potential and future boyfriends and girlfriends, not friends!”

“Where’d all this come from anyway? A few weeks ago you were hoarding him and became like an obsessive mother because you didn’t want him to hang out with other people!”

“Not that Tsukishima was against it. He looked like thankful really…”

“I... don’t know where this all came from. All of a sudden I feel like I’m such a bad boyfriend to him, I mean! You finding out about us, me letting him interact with all those girls…”

Yamaguchi sighed on the other line and covered his face in despair. He really didn’t like how he felt about himself and the relationship he had with Tsukishima, all his previous decisions making him overthink with what could happen in the future. What if Tsukishima decides to leave Yamaguchi for that girl? Then what would he do?

“He already told you he wasn’t gonna go, why would you contradict his decision and tell him that he should go? I don’t know what you’re trying to gain from this.”

“He also told you he didn’t have friends and that meant he didn’t want friends! Man… even he doesn’t treat me as a friend.”

Yamaguchi chuckled and didn’t respond.

“Just don’t come to me crying when Tsukishima suddenly grows colder than he already is. I mean, it’s okay if he acts like that to other people… it’s just a different story when he acts cold to you.”

Yamaguchi frowned on the other line and sighed loudly for Hinata to hear. He then knocked on the wooden desk beside his bed.

“Knock on wood.”

Tsukishima sat in the booth with the same people from last time, everyone could tell how uncomfortable he was at that moment. Stiff body and his lips sealed shut like he was hoarding a secret that costed his life. Matsuda laughed awkwardly with a non-alcoholic drink on his hand and patted his shoulders, “You ‘kay there…?” he asked with a hint of concern. Tsukishima only eyed him and nodded. This was the worst moment of his entire life, “Everyone’s dying to talk to someone tall like you! What’s the hold up?” he looked at Matsuda and sighed, eventually standing up and grabbing his phone from his pocket. “Sorry Matsuda, I’ll have to leave… I got an emergency.”  He started to walk immediately towards the exit and ignored the questions thrown at him.

He stood outside the restaurant now contemplating on what to do next, all he could do at the moment was look at the bystanders and people walking to wherever they wanted to be. He sighed to himself and opened his phone expecting a text message from his boyfriend but found nothing but the time right up to his face, his heart pained a little realizing there was no message sent to him… for the first time in his life, he finally admitted how hurt he was with what’s happening at the moment.

After standing for five minutes, Tsukishima pulled out his phone in desperation to get advice from the two people he trusted most. ‘It’s a good idea right…?’ Tsukishima questioned himself while looking at the numbers of two people from the two different schools. Ever since they attended the training camps it was hard to deny that Tsukishima had made one-sided friendship with two persistent seniors from Fukorodani and Nekoma. It was stupid! He admits that, after that training camp from three months ago, the two idiots had decided to make a group chat with only the three of them. Which was utterly useless for Tsukishima because never once did he open that chat and happily talk to the both of them. He sighed the thousandth time that day and finally mustered up the courage to ask what he needed the most.

Help

He looked at the message he sent and scratched his head in awkwardness, it was hard to live life when you’re a raging hormonal teenager that suddenly encountered the taste of the real world the old people used to tell about. He shut off his phone and decided to get a peace of mind and a good supply of fresh air when his phone continuously vibrated with notifications.

Bokuto

What happened my successor?! Do I need to fight someone?!

Kuroo

Police?

Tsukishima

No, no, no it’s okay. Nothing serious.

Tsukishima

If anything it’s stupid

Kuroo

Oh don’t say that!

Kuroo

You had to contact us, that means it’s really serious! You’ve never done that

Bokuto

Factual

Tsukishima

Don’t laugh

Tsukishima

If you laugh about this I will kill you

Tsukishima

I just need advice on something

Bokuto

AWWWWWW!!!

Bokuto

You need advice and the first people you thought about was us?! Tsukki you are so adorable!!!!

Kuroo

Brings tears to my eyes… We might be getting older than I thought

Tsukishima

You guys have a lot of ego to think you guys were the first people I chatted with about this. If anything you guys are the last ones I thought about, so pipe down

( 2 💔 )

Bokuto

Aw… and here I thought I was finally special… Okay just lay down… on us… or whatever. We’ll try our best to help… whatever.

Tsukishima

Look, there’s this person I really like right?

Tsukishima

The person I like keeps pestering me to go on these stupid mixers with other people I’m not interested in knowing I like them and no one else. I mean, I’ve already told that person IN PERSON so I don’t get why that person is so insisting for me to attend.

Tsukishima

I don’t know the message I’m supposed to receive if there is one… I don’t know what to do

Bokuto

Wow that’s a lot of persons

Bokuto

Maybe that person is trying to tell you that the feeling isn’t mutual? That it’s only you that likes that person and not vice versa?

Tsukishima

I’d highly doubt that

Kuroo

Why?

Kuroo

I’m guessing you’re in a relationship with that person? If that’s the case, maybe they’re trying to send a message that you’re better off with someone else? You don’t have to believe me though

Kuroo

With the first one, it might be because they’re very insecure or maybe they’ve fallen out of love with you and ultimately decided to pester you to attend mixers in hope you’ll end up liking someone there? Let’s go with the first one if you’re heart can’t deal with the second

Bokuto

God damn, putting the chemistry brain into use huh?!

Kuroo

I don’t know where you got the correlation and connection of chemistry to relationship advice???

Tsukishima

Should I communicate?

Tsukishima

All of those are really possible knowing them

Bokuto

Yes Tsukishima! Go talk to that person! Be a man!

Kuroo

Sort things out for sure

Tsukishima

Thank you.

Tsukishima

You guys are useful after all.

Bokuto

What 😢

Tsukishima wiped his forehead as he read all the possible theories his seniors gave out, maybe he has fallen out of love? Yamaguchi's only way of telling is continuously throwing him to more mixers ever since that stupid invite that led to all of this. He once again waited a minute in hopes to receive a message from his boyfriend, but none ever went through. Tsukishima didn’t like confrontation at all. If anything, he’ll find other ways to avoid things that led to a confrontation with the other party. He usually ghosts them or waits until they apologize to him! Which usually works, but now that his boyfriend is the other party… suddenly, every little thing was a big leap, too big for him.

His heart beating out of his chest and his hands slightly trembling as he guided himself to Yamaguchi's number, he didn’t have the courage to hear his voice and imagine the face he had that matched the tone of it, so he thought the best way there was to just message him about it. It’d be better that way. He couldn’t do it in calls and hell, how can he even do it face-to-face? It’ll be a total mess to handle!

Tsukishima

Can we talk?

Tsukishima

If you’re free

Read on 14:56

Tsukishima’s eyes widened after seeing how fast he read it, did that mean he was expecting a message too?

Tadashi 💗

Hi Tsukki! Yes we can!

Tadashi

Is something the matter?

Tsukishima

Yes actually

Tsukishima

Just needed to talk to you about what’s been happening lately

On the other line, Yamaguchi’s heart dropped upon seeing his message. Did he finally meet someone that would lead to the downfall of their relationship? It hasn’t even been one year! ‘God, if that’s really the case then the woman must’ve been really pretty…’ Yamaguchi thought to himself as his heart struck with pain.

Tadashi 💗

Okay! Lay it on me

Tsukishima

Why are you keeping secrets from me? When we started this relationship, both of us promised that no secrets would be kept unsaid. But yet here we are, and it hurts me because I cannot read your mind at all if that’s what you thought

Tsukishima

I’ve already told you many times that I really hate attending to these mixers knowing I’m deeply in love with you. I know it sounds weird or cringey but it pains me to see that you have no love towards yourself if the sole reason why you’re making me attend these is because you think you’re undeserving.

Tsukishima

I know this is a long message, but please read all of them. This is what I truly feel about everything, if anything, it’s the opposite. I don’t deserve someone like you

INCOMING CALL: Tadashi 💗

[ yes ] [ no ]

“Hey…”

Tsukishima’s heart dropped when he heard quiet sniffles from the other line, his boyfriend was crying and the reason this time was because of him. Not because of those stupid romantic fantasy  anime he watches on free time with him, not because of the stories he reads online and would go on and on about how sad it was but the reason was because of him.

“Tadashi…? Look, I’m sorry for hurting—”

“N-no! It’s okay Tsukki… Everything you said was the truth and nothing but that.”

“I’ve kept a lot of secrets from you and it pains me a lot to keep them, I’m scared Tsukki, I’m so scared that you’ll l-leave me.”

“I thought it was gonna be a good idea for you to attend those mixers because I thought I wasn’t good enough. That maybe because of me, people will hate you. I don’t want to be the reason why people will bully you Tsukki, I’m okay if it’s me because I’m used to it, but God… not you!”

“I don’t want them to look at you with their eyes filled with hatred and disgust because they’ll find out you’re dating me, that you’re dating a man.

His tears now falling like a waterfall, sniffles and hiccups in each line he spoke. But not once has Yamaguchi felt regret, if anything bit by bit everything in his system was feeling lighter than before, all the pain and secrets now revealing themselves.

“I really love you Tsukki! So much… that, I’m willing to let go just so you can live normally, that you can live life to the fullest surrounded with love and support from the people around you.”

Tsukishima froze as his phone was still against his ears, where did all of this suddenly come from? Yamaguchi has never said anything about this? Was he going through something alone? Did someone say bad things to him? What happened? All those questions filled in his head and he finally mustered up to open his mouth and ask.

“W-Where’d all this come from? Did something bad happen that I had no clue about?”

Yamaguchi hummed to himself as he reheated the meal he got for both him and Tsukishima. After school convenience stores were the best casual dates ever! It was cheap, airconditioned and quiet, mostly because people didn’t go in after 20:00. Plus, this convenience store was nostalgic for the both of them as they kept visiting this establishment ever since they were middle school students. Babies!  The microwave dinged and he grabbed both of them with his bare fingers, it stung a bit he admitted! But he had to get drinks for the both of them to be able to fully enjoy their late dinner. He was about to walk to the aisle when his eyes spotted the old man that always guarded the store twenty-four-seven.

His phone against his ears and his loud laugh echoing around the whole establishment, Yamaguchi couldn’t help but get a bit nosy as this was the same old man that always had the meanest look on his face, he just wanted the reason why he was suddenly laughing! He walked towards the edge of shelves and tuned in to the conversation.

“Oh let me tell ‘ya, he’s tall, attractive, smart, and seems really athletic. One time, all his friends came in here like a hound of dogs! All of ‘em kept talking about volleyball this, volleyball that, which meant he’s also athletic!” The old man gushed on the line. Yamaguchi blushed to himself and wiped the space under his nose, ‘That’s right… but we’re a hound of crows instead!’

The old man’s face suddenly went serious as he looked around and finally told him what’s on his mind the whole time. “But sometimes it’s just him and this guy who’s also in the same group as him… I don’t know if they’re fags or what! I hope not. That blondie’s face will go to complete waste if they really are dating. I mean… really? If yer gonna date a guy, at least choose someone handsome!” he remarked and laughed loudly shortly after. Yamaguchi stood there and backed up to where the drinks were, his body stood frozen and his mouth completely shut, he covered his mouth to let any noise out to signal the old man that he was around, he really wanted to get out of that store. He didn’t want to listen anymore, if he listened a bit more after that… he might really just cry.

...

Yamaguchi mentally rolled his eyes as he looked at Matsuda. The same guy that invited Tsukishima to attend that mixer, he hated how he completely ignored the person that Tsukishima was talking to… him! All Yamaguchi could feel was anger and hatred towards the guy that suddenly felt buddy-buddy with his boyfriend.

Yamaguchi looked at Tsukihima as he stood up to guide him to leave the room, he could tell how annoyed he was with what’s happening and how annoyed he was with Matsuda altogether, I mean… who wasn’t? He was the rumored kid that was considered a weirdo to everyone because he didn’t know the term of personal space and boundaries. How can someone like that even exist? Yamaguchi huffed in annoyance as they finally arrived in the gym, where it was just the two of them and no one else. That’s all he needed anyway.

Ever since that encounter from earlier, Yamaguchi’s phone has been buzzing and buzzing with countless notifications from an unknown number. He didn’t want to answer it because of stranger danger but he couldn’t help but not ignore it either, what if that person on the other line thinks he’s talking to a friend but all this time it’s the wrong number? He had to set things straight!

But all his assumptions were now down to waste when he finally looked at what the messages were.

xxx-xxx-xxx

Hey, are you gay? Are you really dating him?

xxx-xxx-xxx

Both of you are faggots no? That’ll be a waste. Tsukishima’s a natural! He’s meant for ladies, I mean… they’re easily attracted to him!

xxx-xxx-xxx

Why you though? If I was gay I think I would’ve had better taste, God if I was Tsukishima and I was gay? I would’ve been fucking everyone! Every handsome man there is!

xxx-xxx-xxx

Why is he attending mixers if you guys are dating? Did you know that? If not, then gosh I guess he grew tired of you and wanted girls instead LOL

xxx-xxx-xxx

My condolences if my invites are gonna be the reason why you guys are gonna break off.

Tears streamed out of Yamaguchi’s eyes as each message hit his heart deep. He didn’t get why he was receiving messages and words like this, he gets it! All his life all the insults he received were nothing but about his looks, about his freckles, his uneven teeth, and unkept hair, at this point it was like some broken record! But this time, it hurt him even more because he was dragging Tsukishima along with it. It was all his fault and he was pulling Tsukishima in the same position he was in, God,.. he couldn’t let that happen. Maybe it was better if Tsukishima ended up dating a girl instead, maybe it was better if Tsukishima ended up dating someone more attractive than him. Then maybe everyone will like him again.

Tsukishima was crying. He was sniffling on the other line just like Yamaguchi was. Tsukishima wanted to go where his boyfriend was, to hug him, kiss him, and comfort him with the words and reassurance he needed most. He didn’t know that his own boyfriend was going through something like this, if he did… he wouldn’t know the extreme things he would’ve done towards that guy and towards that old hag.

While Yamaguchi was retelling all the things he’s gone through for the past few weeks, Tsukishima’s legs started running like a usain bolt towards his residence with tears dripping down his face. He badly wanted to see him.

“Tadashi… open the door please.”

Yamaguchi ended the call as he ran downstairs towards the entrance of his home to give Tsukishima the biggest hug his body could give. Both of them were crying into each other's arms as a series of “It’s okay” and “I’m sorry” were thrown at each other. Tsukishima sniffled and grabbed Yamaguchi’s cheeks with both his hands and gave him a passionate kiss. Their tongues fighting with dominance as Tsukishima won over a broken and vulnerable Yamaguchi, Tsukishima pulled away as a string of saliva ripped through. “I’m sorry Tadashi… I’m really really sorry. I wasn’t there to help you, I wasn’t there to save you from those people.” he said. Yamaguchi nodded with a smile on his face and laughed at him, kissing him once more.

“It’s okay… I’m sorry for not telling the truth, I’m sorry for keeping you away and letting you think thoughts and thoughts of whatever.” he smiled. Tsukishima nodded and hugged him tighter again, he just thanked the gods from above that all the neighbourhood kids were at school and no one was around where they were or else they would’ve seen a lot of tongue and two gay people kissing each other like it’s the last day on earth.

As the highs died down, both of them sat on the pavement next to the pots Yamaguchi’s mom had in front of their door to grow. The gusts of winds going through them each minute and the sky blue and bright with no clouds in sight. After telling the truth, after telling everything that was hidden, Yamaguchi felt peaceful and cleansed just like the view both of them were seeing. Yamaguchi looked at Tsukishima and pinched his cheeks, “I love you.” he blurted out. Tsukishima blushed red as a tomato and smiled at him. “I love you more.”

“Let’s not keep secrets anymore please.” he reminded Yamaguchi. He giggled in response and nodded, That’s right! No more secrets were allowed to be left untold, or else maybe something like this will unfold again. Yamaguchi cleared his throat and mustered up the courage to finally tell the one thing he forgot to mention, “Oh and… Hinata knows about us.”

“Oh you gotta be kidding me.”

Notes:

i'd like to confess that this is the first time i've wrote a kissing scene
