Work Text:

Kayn was surprised when Ezreal showed up to their recording session in glasses. Big and round, a little like those yellow sunglasses he loves so much, but they make his eyes bigger and. . .

“Yeah yeah,” Ezreal says clocking instantly that everyone is looking at him. “Four-eyes or whatever.” He took his place in front of the microphone.

“Someone’s in a mood,” Kayn said.

“If you make fun of me I’ll tell Yone!”

“I’m right here,” Yone grumbled from the other side of the recording booth.

“But you’re just so fun to tease! You know it’s your own fault you need glasses, always squinting at your phone screen,” Kayn said.

Ezreal scowled, opening his mouth to say something but Ka’sante quickly jumped in.

“We only have the studio booked for an hour, let’s not waist our time.”

Ezreal pouted and Kayn smiled victoriously.

The recording session was successful, Sett recorded a lot of the new song he’s bee writing with Aphelios, and Ka’sante got a few runs at a solo song he’s nearly done, but when it came to Kayn and Ezreals song, the one they’d been working on together for over a month now it all fell apart.

Kayn couldn’t focus. Not with Ezreal right there looking so soft and adorable with his glasses.

Ezreal was tense, arms crossed, voice strained. It was odd for the pop prince to be so withdrawn. He missed several of his cues, and it was starting to get noticeable.

“Maybe we take a break here?” Yone said after the tenth try at the pre-chorus that just didn’t sound right.

Ezreal sighed and pushed up his glasses with his knuckle, walking off into a more private room, Kayn following. His glasses had always been a bit too big, but he usually wore contacts so he’d never gotten them fixed and it was driving him crazy.

And Ezreal could tell Kayn kept looking at him. It pissed him off. So what if he wore glasses? Lots of people wore glasses. So what if he looked bad in them? They were just recording today, not making any public appearances. It shouldn’t be bothering him this much. And it maybe wouldn’t be all that bothersome if Kayn wasn’t staring so much.

“Would you fucking quit it? I know I look like shit no need to keep staring,” Ezreal said, turning away from Kayn.

Kayn frowned at that. Ezreal had been making self deprecating comments all day about his looks. It wasn’t entirely a new thing, but usually it was more light-hearted and more at Kayn’s expense.

“Ugh I look awful, though at least I still look better than you,” he’d say. But today it was non stop and entirely directed towards Ezreal himself instead as a backhanded complement towards Kayn.

“Would you shut up?” Kayn said, finally tired of the most beautiful boy he’s ever seen beating himself up.

“Jeez didn’t think you cared that much.” Ezreal said, pushing up his glasses again.

The motion made Kayn melt into putty on the floor. He could get lost in those big eyes forever.

“Would you just admit that your pretty?”

“What am I making you jealous because I’m prettier than you? Well. . . Maybe not today but—”

“There! You did it again! You look fine.” It took every ounce of Kayn’s self control to keep him from saying what he really meant. You look stunning, adorable, breathtaking, you’re the most beautiful creature I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Ezreal rolled his eyes. “Yeah fine. I’m always so much better than fine. And fine is even generous here, I look downright ugly.”

Ezreal reached to take his glasses off when Kayn caught his hand.

“And who the fuck told you that lie?”

Ezreal felt his face heat. He only realized now how close they were standing. “I just sort of always thought that.”

“Well you’re fucking wrong ok?” Kayn tucked a strand of green hair behind Ezreal’s ear, admiring his face, his whole face. Freckles, perfect lips, crooked teeth, big eyes, adorable glasses. “You’re beautiful.”

Ezreal felt his heart thud I’m his chest. One of Kayn’s hands held his and the other cupped his cheek. Did Kayn really think that? When was the last time Kayn had ever said anything without any sort of sarcasm?

Ezreal leaned in, narrowing the gap between them. Kayn leaned in a little himself.

“Kayn I—”

“Were going out for food. . .” Sett trailed off as he opened the door to the room Kayn and Ezreal had found for themselves. They quickly sprang apart but Sett had already seen.

“Aw hell yeah! Ka’sante you owe me five bucks!” Sett yelled over his shoulder.

“What?! No way we’re you taking bets!” Kayn shouted.

Sett grinned. “I seem to recall a certain someone taking bets on how long it would take for me and Phel to get together.”

Kayn scowled heat rising to his face. “That was. . . Ugh! I hate you all!”

Ezreal giggled and Kayn turned to face the boy he had been three seconds away from kissing just moments ago. His anger faded away watching Ezreal laugh.

Ezreal smiled and grabbed Kayn’s hand. “Come on let’s go get food.”

Kayn felt warm all over.

“Did you mean it? Do you really think I’m beautiful?” Ezreal asked, looking up at Kayn with big puppy dog eyes.

“Did I say beautiful? I don’t remember saying beautiful.”

Ezreal leaned up on his toes and kissed Kayn on the cheek. “Well thank you. For not saying I’m beautiful I mean.” Ezreal winked and Kayn felt his soul leave this mortal plane. God he loved this boy so much.
