Surprisingly fully awake, Izuku made his way from his dorm to the elevator while carrying a spare blanket because he had, unfortunately, learned that Katsuki is a blanket hogger. He had learned this from his previous visits—he’s only stayed in Katsuki’s dorm a few times previously. He rarely asked, regardless of how well he sleeps when he’s with him, because he didn't want to be a burden to anyone. He didn't want to invade Katsuki's space either, even if he had asked more than Izuku had.
It was the same nightmare every night. It started the same and ended the same—with Izuku arriving entirely too late. He spots Lemillion.
“Sorry I'm late, is everyone alrigh-”
By this point in the dream, he knows exactly what's going to happen next and his subconscious is screaming at him, telling him to not turn his head. But, it's out of his control. He turns his head. He sees Katsuki lying on the ground next to Best Jeanist, lifeless. His expression too dull, too still. His chest seeping with red from the hole dead in the middle of it. Izuku examines the scene for far too long. He knows exactly what's happening, but he's entirely in disbelief. To see Katsuki Bakugou, one of the strongest people he knows, dead was disheartening. Their whole lives, Katsuki had always been so determined, and to see the determination behind his eyes falter wasn't right.
He shouldn't think any harder about it, it’ll just make it worse. Entering the elevator, he presses the button for the fourth floor. He doesn't realize it, but he's somewhat panicked. He's just slightly shaking, reminding himself that he just texted Katsuki, and he's on his way to his dorm. He’s feeling much better than he did when he had previously woken up from his nightmare, seeing as he’s texted Katsuki multiple times since, but it doesn't hurt to verify physically.

Katsuki has been having the most trouble sleeping he's ever had in his life. It’s the same dream over and over again.
“Listen to me!” He calls out to the boy in front of him, just out of his reach. The scene of the dream always starts like this. Katsuki chasing after Izuku, jumping from rooftop to rooftop. The rain dulling Katsuki's ability to push himself forward every passing second.
“I can't come back.” Izuku, albeit, masked and nearly everything about him now rough around the edges, replies. Katsuki always hates how broken Izuku sounds, determined to keep away from him.
“I said listen! You’ll be safe back at U.A, we’ll all be!” Katsuki nearly grabs rough and ragged fabric of the other's cape passed on from his mentor's mentor, just barely slipping through his hands. The gloom and rain grows, and Katsuki feels himself start to slip, his explosions weakening as his vision starts getting blurry around the edges.
“And I said I can’t come back.” He turned his head slightly, his gaze cold. Wrong. He’s never been so distant or cold before, not even after all the times Katsuki has mistreated him so horribly.
“Izuku!” Katsuki manages to call out before the other disappears into the gloom and gray lingering over the city. The dream always ends then. Katsuki couldn't catch up with Izuku.
He's been almost avoiding sleep as a whole, knowing what awaits him every time he tries to rest. Izuku has stayed over in his dorm a handful of times, and each time he's slept soundly. He knows Izuku probably benefits from it too, they have been through so much together after all, it's not easy to see your best friend dead. The thought is a reoccurring one. The fact Izuku had to see him lying there, cold.
On the other hand, he knows Izuku. He knows he never thinks of himself and always puts others first. So, when Izuku mentioned not wanting to bother Katsuki, he scoffed to himself. Izuku could never be a bother to Katsuki.
He was peacefully waiting for Izuku, sitting on his bed, leaning against the wall while his phone screen illuminated his face when three light and careful knocks sounded at his door.
