To Summer's first Rain

Chapter 1: Downpour

Chapter Text

what a weird way to start the summer,
the rain showers inviting humanity into their embrace
before the parching July heat bedraggles us all,
more than the rain ever could.
the little raindrops on the windowpane tell me more
than the whispering trees ever did.

The trees and their secrets never end
although the ending is natural, in a way.
it never waited, but when we turned around, it was there
staring us right in the face.
but it was never a surprise, we always knew, in a way.
that it was coming in bounding leaps.

and the rest of us?
When the downpour comes, where do we run?
