Summary
Sadie Elise Maxwell had been in love with Dean Di Laurentis since she was five years old, and lately she was starting to wonder how much longer she could wait for him to choose her.
Dean had always been there her entire life. He was Beau’s best friend, her constant, he was woven into every good part of her childhood. Somewhere along the way, he stopped feeling like her brother’s friend and started feeling like the one person she wanted more than she knew how to admit. Though, wanting Dean was never simple. He could treat her like something precious one minute and untouchable the next, walking her home, calling her Elise, acting like she mattered, then showing up with another girl on his arm.
The summer before college, he kissed her on the dock. By morning, he acted like it never happened.
At Briar, Sadie wants to become someone beyond the soft, protected girl everyone thinks they know. But as Dean’s teammates and other guys start noticing her, she’s forced to ask: if Dean doesn’t want her, why does he act like no one else is allowed to?
And Dean has no answer… only the unbearable realization that watching Sadie stop waiting for him feels a lot like losing her.
