Chapter Text

I wasn't supposed to survive this long.

That's what I keep telling myself as I stare at the potted plants that surround my bedroom. At least what I think is a bedroom? It's covered head to toe in a dark metallic metal that reminds me too much of that dark cramp sub, which wasn't a great way to wake up after nearly dying. Nevertheless it's a quiet place for me to sleep and live even if it wasn't for long. The walls, cool to the touch, keep me a bit sane compared to the humid cramp sub. Connected by a small hallway is little Eden (at least that's what I like to call it) a room covered in plants of all kinds, ones that I have never seen in my life and in the middle the last tree the pendant that kept the seed safe and in turn started my own garden. Every day my routine stays the same waking up, eating some sort of mush they give me to keep me alive, taking care of my plants, talking with one of the alien scientists (at least what I think is a scientist? Translation is kinda difficult when you both don't know what you are saying), eat more mush, then head to bed. The same thing over and over ever since I've arrived in this place but was it so bad? I had food, some company, and a place of my own way bigger than anything I have had before. Still wonder why they keep me arou-

"SHIT"

I shout as I turn behind me, dropping one of my pots. It collides with the ground with a sharp noise, then pain, then panic. The thing that had startled me was a large rock or boulder? It has five appendages that helped it walk towards be as it sang a couple sounds. Sounded like music or what I think is music. Its bluish green color fills my vision as it looks down at me (can something look with no eyes??) and points to my pot that had broken into several pieces making a soft warbling sound. I think it's asking what happened? "Sorry Blue you scared me a bit and I dropped it" I respond a bit shakily before I kneel down to pick up the broken pieces but then felt arms surrounding my waist and hoisting me up high. "Hey! What are you-" I screamed as I'm placed on top of their backs as they chastised me in music notes before picking up the rest of the pot. I sigh knowing I can't say anything while they are in this state as I stare at their back rubbing my hand against the clear coating around their body, a suit of sorts to make sure they wouldn't die in my atmosphere. What strange creatures? I think to myself as Blue lifts me back down and onto my bed making a humming noise that means they are checking me over. "I'm fine Blue really you just startled me and I dropped a pot" I respond as Blue lifts my foot and I see blood leaking down from the top. A part of me panics at the sight thinking back to the damn ocean the thing that kept me hostage. No, you really can't keep thinking about that you've been on Erid for almost a year and need to get over it. I swallow a bit as blue could sense the change in my body and makes another warble. "I'M FINE" I shout as I rip my foot from their gasp and bandage it up myself quickly. They back away a bit giving me space. That's one more thing that I can appreciate from this scientist is that they allow me to have space. They let me do my own thing and doesn’t get mad when I want to be left alone.

I take some deep breaths as I look down at my haphazardly bandaged foot (God I really need to get better at it) looking back over at Blue. “Sorry didn’t mean to lash out” I pull my knees to my chest and Blue crawls over and settles down by my bed as it warbles what I think is an acceptance of my apology. We sit in silence for a bit before I look over. “So any big science updates about the sun?” The sun, the one thing that makes life grow, the thing most life needs, and the one thing that connects the two of our species alive is dying. Day by day hour by hour the light continues to dim causing the planet of Erid to cool and die with it. From what I can get from a very frustrating game of picture and pointing is that they sent a ship with 23 Eridians to try and figure out a solution to this problem but they haven’t returned. From context clues and a lot of asking I believe Blue’s mate was one of those people. Every time I try to ask about it they either shut it down or stay quiet and not answer. It’s understandable since I do the same whenever Blue asks about my home so that's one thing we can be silent about. Blue just makes a sad warble and curls deeper into themselves. I’m guessing the answer isn’t good.

Once again we sit in silence.

I don't know how much time has passed as I sit up from my laying position. When did I fall asleep? I look over seeing Blue gone as I stand up and head towards the door that separates me from the rest of Erid. I see Blue’s shape through the clear metal they made so that I could see out. I can see they are talking to another person but can't really hear the tone they are singing to each other. Is it about the sun? Is it getting colder faster? Are they rethinking about keeping me alive? I slide down the wall and hide myself in a crevice. I don’t know what to think anymore. I know they need to preserve their resources and if that means no longer taking care of me then I’m ok with it. They have already sacrificed so much by keeping me alive without me doing anything in return. I look at the trash can that’s holding pieces of the pot I dropped earlier sharp jagged pieces. Sharp enough to cut through my weak flimsy flesh.

Maybe I should get a head start.

I crawled towards the bin and before I could reach in, Blue burst into the room, their suit haphazardly put on as they chirped over and over. Although I have a low understanding of their language I’ve picked up on a few words here and there. I froze as I recognized the word.
