Chapter Text

“This wasn’t at all what I expected.”

That’s what every adult in her life told her. To a B on her report card, to accidentally almost burning the house. She was moving to different houses in a matter of days, so she knew that it wouldn’t be the best option to stay attached.

And now, Mayumi is stuck at juvie. It wasn’t anything bad like killing someone, it was actually because she almost burned a school. She thought it was the right choice because the school was being an ass, both to the students and the teachers. And that’s saying a lot, especially because her teachers suck.

She groaned and grabbed a small notebook she fitted in her pocket before she was sent there. It sadly wasn’t the first time she went there, but she had to agree that it was way better than staying with her stupid foster family. She drew a small picture of what she remembered her parents looked like, then ripped it.

“Why did you have to die?” She asked.

On top of being somewhere she didn’t want to be, she had to do individual therapy. It was the worst. It actually wasn’t the first time she did therapy, but the last time she went to therapy, the therapist told her last adoptive parents that she had thoughts of killing herself. Because of that, she had everything taken away from her because it was “works of the devil”, which was a thing her over-religious family always said when she did something bad.

“Mayumi Rivera, come over here,” her therapist said, opening the door with unnecessary force.

She groaned. “What if I don’t want to, Jeremy?”

“If you don’t, I might have to report-“

“Shut up. I’m coming,” she stated, putting on her headphones. She knew that she would have a plan in store so she wouldn’t have to see this shitty place again.

When she walked through the hallways, she didn’t have a single doubt of what she was planning to do. She always had pepper spray on her, so she planned on spraying it on Jeremy’s face exactly when he asked, “What sparked the thought of you burning the school?” It was like she knew exactly what he would say. Mostly because this wasn’t the first session she had with him. When they reached the room, she reluctantly pulled a chair, then sat on it.

She tried to avoid his gaze by drawing on herself with a pen. He groaned when she did this. Jeremy knew he couldn’t do anything about it, but he was so desperate to help her. Not because he wanted to, he just wanted to get paid.

“Mayumi, are you going to cooperate, or are we just gonna sit here?” he asked, putting his hands on his lap impatiently.

She shrugged. “You know what my answer would be, so why ask it? I’d rather read something my 7th grade English teacher would assign than talk to you.”

He rolled his eyes. “If you’re not going to cooperate, I’ll start it off.”

“So… Mayumi, what sparked the thought of you-“

Just as he said those words, she quickly sprayed his face with her tiny pepper spray container. He was breathing more fast than usual, so she knew for a fact that her plan was in action. She smiled when he kept yelling, “I CAN’T SEE!”

He shook his head and pointed at the window, even though he meant to point at her. “I’m going to tell your parents about this… incident.”

“Oh, Jeremy… did you forget? I don’t HAVE parents!” she said, laughing.

Then, a man with burn scars, black hair, glasses, and a shocked expression on his face unlocked the door with a gasp. She knew this wouldn’t be pretty. He looked at her with a look that she’s never seen from an adult. It looked like he wanted her to do exactly what she did. “Hello… Mayumi.
