Summary
When the Primordial Goddess of Night kidnaps the Lord of the Dead, the Underworld is sure to erupt into chaos. Solution? Send two of his children and a cowardly son of Apollo to the rescue! Expect, they weren't sent. Their quest is completely unauthorized, and they have to dodge Camp directors and palace servants who keep trying to drag them back to safety. Not only that, but Xuan and Ashe are complete opposites. One only thinks about himself, one only thinks about anyone BUT herself. One's empathetic, one's apathetic. They agree on almost nothing.
What makes things worse is that Xuan's a total beginner, having arrived at Camp around the same time as Nico and Bianca. Despite this, he insists on coming along Ashe's quest to find Hades. (Even though he hates his father). If Ashe is telling the truth and the mortal world is in danger, both Ashe and Xuan must go against their nature as children of Hades.
They must learn not to hold grudges.

She listened again. It had been a while since she'd learned to identify chords by ear, but she could scrape by.
B major chord. A major chord. G major chord twice, then A major again, G major again, and E major.
It didn't sound right. It sounded horrible, actually. The progression was clunky and awkward, the kind of thing that would make any music teacher wince. But it didn't make sense at all. the woman's fingers easily transitioned between chords. Her fingers pressed down on each string with jarring accuracy. And chord progressions weren't hard to come up with. It was easy to go online and use already existing ones. So then why was this woman, who was clearly knew her way around a guitar, doing this?
"No, I mean—" Seoul shook her head, frustrated. "The progression. It's awful. It doesn't make musical sense."
"She's probably an amateur," Paris said, shrugging. "Not everyone can be a virtuoso."

Hades realizes he has two choices: Drown in salt water, or break the Ancient Laws and kick her soul back to the surface.

In 2017, she dropped out of American Idol before the show ever debuted. She started a band, the River Lethe, with her girlfriend. Luke Castellan won what should have been Bianca's season.
In 2019, she died in January. In January 2020, prodigy Nico diAngelo dropped out of Julliard.
In August 2025, the Pantheon Project, a reality tv show focused around Music's next generation, is announced. In August 2025, everyone around him begs Nico to fulfil Bianca's dream for her. They're twins after all.

"The god tilts his head. “I apologize, I’ve been rude. I am Zagreus, prince of the Underworld, god of blood and rebirth.” He winks at him. “Sorry you had to see me come out of the Styx like that—I’m usually much more put together. And as for why I’m helping you…” Something in his bearing shifts, changes from the casual front he was putting on to something much more serious. “That’s your mother that Hades is holding, isn’t it?”
Percy flinches. “What do you know about my mom? Is she okay? She’s not…”
“She’s perfectly fine.” Zagreus says in an unexpectedly reassuring tone. “I promise. She’s not a shade, she’s just being held in stasis.”
Relief flows through him, but… “What does that have to do with why you’re helping us, though?” He’s reminded of the saying Annabeth told him after he received the pearls from Poseidon: never trust a free lunch.
Zagreus meets his eyes. “I know a thing or two about going on an impossible quest to find one’s mother, son of Poseidon.”
