Work Text:
Vanessa kicked off her shoes at the door and sighed. Her foot stepped up to the slightly elevated platform as she walked inside the house. First going to clean her hands inside the kitchen. Why wouldn’t she? She’s not a huge fan of school germs so eeeeyuck.
She hummed truly thinking she was home alone. Bria wouldn’t be coming home until late due to her medical club. So. Vanessa went upstairs to her room. It was covered in her father’s old band and rock posters.
If you really took time to look at Vanessa, you’d she how she resembled Vance. All the way from the eyes and hair, to her style and what she liked. She was his twin practically.
Likewise to Bria. She looked so much like Bruce. She had his strong work ethic too.
Vanessa played in a band and did swimming as a sport. Bria did medical clubs and softball as hers.
Having a father who did baseball and is considered a professional player globally— and loved world wide helped her become so great.
Vanessa leans back in her chair, remembering the time Bruce would spend with Bria, teaching her baseball. Meanwhile Vance taught Vanessa how to play the guitar and keyboard.
Vance taught her how to play so many instruments, and taught her years worth of music theory. Vance was a rockstar globally too.
Both of their parents were big timers.
She shook her head off from the reminiscing thoughts. They did have a nice family, didn’t they? She was happy to have them.
Vanessa rubbed her temples before being in the present moment. She tied her long, fluffy, blonde hair into a ponytail. Her hair was thick and unruly. Like a Viking. So long and full of volume. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t get her inspiration from her dad and 80s dramatic big hair magazines.
She started working on her AP lang essay which took her hours.
It wasn’t until perhaps 6:32 she heard the front door open. Vanessa checked the time and let out a soft hm in recognition. Bria was home. She decided this could be used as a good stopping point. Vanessa came down the stairs, quietly as always. The one thing she did learn from Bruce is how to walk so quietly without causing creaks through the house.
So there she came, with a devious grin. She quietly tipped toe around the corner, watching her sister take off her shoes at the front door. It wasn’t until Bria turned around and saw that devious bitch.
She fell back but quickly grabbed herself, her eyes widening and taking a moment to breathe once she recognized it was just her sister.
“Oh my fucking god! Vanessa! You son of a bitch!” Bria muttered quietly, not wanting her baba to hear her swear. Assuming they were home.
Vanessa giggled quietly and flipped her younger sister off.
“Well fuck you too.” Bria eyerolled
Vanessa smiled “and welcome home to you too.”
Both sisters went to the kitchen, talking about it their schools day.
Dinner was already made and resided within the crockpot. Their stomachs growled. Vance was the main cooker in the house, and whenever he made something, whether it was from scratch or not, it was always so good and flavorful.
Bria got a bit nosey and checked the crockpot and it was Chuck roast! Bria let out a hearty chuckle before turning to her sister with the biggest smile.
“Baba made the good expensive stuff!”
Vanessa took a moment before thinking. Her eyebrows furrowing.
“Which baba?”
“Your twin, you thick headed girl.”
Both girls giggled quietly. They both decided to watch a movie— finish a studio Ghilbi movie more specifically.
They turnt the corner in their lovely home, adorned with pictures, just to find both of their babas asleep in a weird position.
Bruce sat on the floor in the Seiza position. His eyes closed and his fingers still in their papa’s golden, curly, hair.
Vance laid his head in bruce’s lap and the rest of his body still and stiff. But his shoulders remained so relaxed and open towards their baba.
It was no surprise they were exhausted. The spring time was when they became more active in their jobs— so this was no big surprise.
Both sisters looked at each other before looking back at the scene.
“How is that even remotely comfortable?” Bria whispered and Vanessa shrugged.
“I’m not sure. I hated when we used to sit like that during Grandma’s and Grandpa’s birthdays. It’s so painful! How can they sleep like that— how can baba tolerate that..?”
Both girls shook their heads, bewildered.
Their parents seemed so content around each other, and most of the time they didn’t talk. They didn’t have to. Bruce understood Vance’s grunts. Vance understood Bruce’s eyes when they screamed for quiet help.
They just knew and loved each other so much, that their bodies naturally communicated. They were communal. They live best when they’re together. Not apart.
Vance cooks, Bruce cleans.
Vance teaches Vanessa about instruments and writing.
Bruce teaches Bria about baseball and work ethic.
They always did things together, you know? No matter how hard or different it was. They made parenting look so easy and peaceful.
Vanessa found herself frowning before quietly pulling back into the kitchen. Bria’s head turnt and she followed her sister. Knowing something was wrong.
Bria gave her sister a knowing look that made Vanessa spill in an instant.
“Baba and papa make parenting and life look so easy. How come their love comes easy and.. yet… I’m stuck with a Mohawk wearing idiot who forgets about my own birthday? Baba and papa just…” Vanessa shook her head.
Bruce and Vance were their role models. Both girls looked up to them. How come life came so easy to their parents and not them.
Bria soon smiled, remembering something Bruce told her. Both sisters leaned against the counter.
“Baba once told me they weren’t always like that. He said it took years for them to get to that level. Said they used to argue so often and be complete polar opposites. Especially with being a secret.. since.. well… they came from a town that didn’t think loving whoever you love was okay.” Bria paused before looking at her sister.
“Love takes time, Vanessa. You might not find love like our parents like they did in highschool. Love doesn’t look like what they have on command.” Bria said quietly before hugging her sister.
“Let it come naturally and allow you both to grow. It takes years of wisdom and understanding.”
Vanessa sunk into her sister’s embrace, feeling like a baby all over again.
“Thanks Bria.” Vanessa muttered quietly before both sisters pulled away.
Vanessa soon grinned like a devious child— just like their uncle Griffin.
“Now let’s go take a picture of them. It’s rare to see them like that!”
“But they’re sleeping—“
“So? Blackmail.”
Bria sighed and smiled loving at her sister. Vanessa was devious like their Uncle. They’d most definitely have to give him a call this weekend.
