“So what?” Bilbo began, irate, “You expect me to go along with this. To- to make a mockery of myself as I watch you pretend your head over heels for me, when it’s clear you think of me as nothing more than dirt on the bottom of your hideous boot.”
Thorin grimaced, turning away from Bilbo as if ashamed, “Yes.”

Arranged marriages are banned in Dwarvern culture—considered a slight on Mahal himself, but in the aftermath of dragon fire, trade is necessary if Erebor wishes to see spring. So when Bilbo Baggins arrives at the mountain, expecting a loveless political marriage, he's shocked when the king pretends to be deeply in love with him, and begs Bilbo to play along. There's an even bigger problem though: Thorin Oakenshield hates him, and Bilbo hates him right back. Acting in love may turn out to be harder than he originally thought.
