it's finally their last year of high school. the big finish to the positively most morbid years of their life. but, just as they enter with the hope their year will be a good close off, the static of the announcements ripples through the courtyard.
bruce yamada is popular. he was once part of a trio that consisted of himself, griffin stagg and finney blake, but it fell apart in their freshman year of high school. bruce joined the baseball team and found his talent, and got picked up by the popular boys. the ones with teeth as straight as their grades and letterman jackets. plans thinned out, group chats went dry.
watching bruce get popular, griffin tried to find his own calling during freshman year. and, eventually, he did. he found a group of quiet kids who blended into the background just like he did, and unfortunately left finney behind too.
finney was left to eat lunch in toilet stalls dodging bullies, unable to make an actual friend who didn't just want math answers.
on the other side of the spectrum was the delinquents.
soon they would meet, and be forced into friendship with none other than vance hopper, robin arellano and the local paperboy.
