Resemblance

Summary:

Ruskin is not fond of cats, but when his employer is feeding them, he still decides to take care of one.

Work Text:

"Come here, kitty. You don't need to be afraid. I brought you food like I always do. Come here."

It would have been an unlikely sight for anyone else aside from his personal secretary that the powerful and influential Charles Augustus Milverton who bore the title of the King of Media, was bowing on the ground and trying to talk to cats. But there was a reason why only Ruskin was there on his side those times when he fed stray cats on the street. Ruskin kept his mouth shut about the fact that his employer, who liked to call himself the personification of pure evil, had a soft spot as well. He loved cats and unlike when it came to humans whom he tortured more than happily, he hated to see cats suffer. So he often put food out to them, patting them, talking to them with tenderness.

Now, he was in the middle of his cat time again. Ruskin didn't speak. He just watched his employer with love in his heart. Mr. Milverton had no idea what his unusual softness, his carefree joy, the innocent spark in his eyes caused to Ruskin. He just stood there in awe of the other man, the quiet wish filling all his inches. He wanted to hold him, kiss him, tell him about his love. But it was not the time yet to confess, Ruskin knew it. Maybe one day.

Ruskin personally didn't care about the cats, so his attention only focused on Mr. Milverton, not the little mewing crowd that gathered around him. His gaze still wandered over the curly haired head when he spotted something. It was a cat with white fur, it stood behind the braver ones, waiting for some food hopefully. Ruskin looked into the yellow eyes of the creature - and his sudden realization made him do something unexpected. He walked there, carefully, to not scare the cat away and he gently took it up. He brought it near the food and started to feed it, not letting it starve anymore.

His action made Mr. Milverton turn his head towards him. He smiled when he saw that Ruskin was taking care of the cat. His voice was a bit teasing when he noted.

"I thought that you are not fond of cats, Ruskin."

Ruskin nodded, but he didn't put down the white-fured, yellow-eyed kitten. There was a reason why he was holding it now even if he wished to take the hand of a certain someone instead.

He answered quietly.

"It made me think of you, sir."
