Work Text:
Luka looked through the destroyed bookshelves. She was desperately hoping that what she just saw- miku disappearing…it wasn’t true. If miku were to be gone, what would rin do? What would len do? Meiko and miku didn’t even finish writing their book together. “Miku!! Please…!” the only response was silence. She kicked a torn book out of frustration. Without miku, this sekai wouldn’t be the same. Nothing would be the same. She sobbed, her sweater was dirty and covered in tears. How is she gonna tell the others about miku? How she saw her, gone within an instant.
Doors swung open and heavy footsteps followed. Luka didn’t dare to look up, she knew someone was coming and she knew she needed to tell them about the disappearance of miku but it hurt too much to even imagine their faces, their cries, and rin especially wouldn’t have taken it well. But the approaching footsteps became louder and luka’s heart would beat faster. “Luka! Are you okay? The rest of the group was at the cafe and no one was hurt but-“ kaito saw her, crying. “Are-are you okay? What happened?!” His voice couldn’t have possibly sounded more distressed. Luka took a shaky deep breath. She had to spill it to everyone eventually. She walked towards the blue haired man, and hugged him, it calmed her down just enough for her to tell him what she witnessed and so desperately wished never happened.
“She’s gone. Miku. It took her. I dont know how or why but it just happened.”
Her voice cracked and her grip around kaito tightened. “What…?” His heart dropped harder than a weight. Luka sniffed and looked up at him. He was her greatest comfort and needed him desperately to help her with miku. But despite that, seeing his look of shock and despair hurt her even more than if he never came. So she looked back down unable to swallow down his reaction.
“Why couldn’t it have been me? Why was she taken away? I deserve to go…” she said, overwhelmed with emotions.
Kaito’s face looked even more disturbed hearing those words come out. He was close to luka. Very close and knew a lot of things about her. But he never saw this side of her. She was always a mature, and sweet, and a bit of rambler but he had never seen her in so much sadness. He never thought he would hear words like that come out of her mouth. He buried his face in her hair and hugged her as tight as possible. “Please…luka…dont say stuff like that. I dont want you or miku to go. We’re gonna get through this together okay? We’ll hope for the best and if the best doesn’t come, then we work with what we have and get through it.” His voice went from distressed and worried to soft and comforting. Luka sniffed once more. “Thank you kaito…i needed that…i really did.” He smiled but in a sad melancholic way. “You’re welcome.”
