Work Text:
Katie's sittin' on her old front porch
Watchin' the chickens peck the ground
There ain't a whole lot goin' on tonight
In this one-horse town
Over yonder comin' up the road
In a beat-up Chevy truck
Her boyfriend Tommy, he's layin' on the horn
Splashin' through the mud and the muck
Whittney Jones was watching the chickens pecking the ground. It was early summer, and the just-turned-18-year-old omega was bored. She loved her home and town, but there wasn’t much to do. That’s when she heard it: the sound of tires coming down the road, then the horn.
She smiled, getting up and running to the edge of the driveway, a beat-up Chevy truck came to view along with her boyfriend. Turned to the house.
“Mum, Dad, I’m going out.”
“Winnie!” Came the voice of her father, but she was gone before he even got on the front porch.
Her daddy says, "He ain't worth a lick
When it comes to brains, he got the short end of the stick"
But Katie's young and man, she just don't care
She'd follow Tommy anywhere
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
And even if they have to run away
She's gonna marry that boy someday
“Dammit,” Alfred growled as he watched the dust from the truck.
“Miss them again, love?” Arthur asked, walking up to his mate.
“Yeah, I tell you what, one of these days I’m going to give a piece of my mind to both our daughter and that boy.”
Arthur sighed and muttered something about his own father and Alfred. Alfred didn’t hear him but walked back into the house.
“If we keep pushing, she might just run away with him,” Arthur whispered to himself.

Katie and Tommy at the drive-in movie
Parked in the very last row
They're too busy holdin' on to one another
To even care about the show
Later on outside the Tastee Freeze
Tommy slips something on her hand
He says, "My high school ring will have to do
'Til I can buy a wedding band"
Lars' arms were around Whittney, his girlfriend for four years. They had met freshman year, and he had fallen for the teal blue eyes. He pulled her close, kissing her head as he heard the small sigh of his love.
“Lars. I love you.”
“I love you too, my little bird,” he said, moving to kiss her lips.
Whitney hummed into the kiss and pulled Lars closer. The movie is playing behind them, but they didn’t care. After they pulled away to catch their breath, Lars took her left hand and put his high school ring on her finger.
“Lars?”
“This will have to do until I can afford a real band, but will you…”
“I will marry you, Lars.”
Her daddy says, "He ain't worth a lick
When it comes to brains, he got the short end of the stick"
But Katie's young and man, she just don't care
She'd follow Tommy anywhere
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
And even if they have to run away
She's gonna marry that boy someday
Alfred was looking at the clock; it was about midnight, and his daughter still wasn’t back. He growled with his hands gripping one another. Arthur sighed, looking up from his embroidering a slight frown at his husband.
“Alfred…” He started but stopped when he heard footsteps on the porch.
Her daddy's waitin' up 'til half past 12
When they come sneakin' up the walk
He says, "Young lady, get on up to your room
While me and Junior have a talk"
Mama breaks in, says, "Don't lose your temper
It wasn't very long ago
When you yourself was just a hayseed plowboy
Who didn't have a row to hoe
Alfred opened the door and saw his little girl in the arms of the boy. Then his eyes went to his daughter’s left hand, and he saw red.
“Winnie, up to your room. I’m going to talk with this boy.”
“Daddy….”
“Now, Whittney,” he ordered.
Whitney winced and looked over at Lars, who nodded. She gave him a quick peck and walked into the house. She passed her mother's worry on her face. Arthur gently touched her face, giving her a gentle smile.
“Don’t worry, love, I’ll have a talk with your father.”
“Mum…”
“It will be fine, dear. Now go up to bed.”
Whittney nodded, and Arthur watched her go up and walked over to his husband.
“You have some nerve. Asking my daughter to marry you, what can you…”
“Alfred.” Arthur’s voice filled the room.
“Artie.” Alfred stopped looking over at the omega, his scent turning sour.
“Yes, Artie….”
“I would like to remind you of something.”
“Artie, I’m having a….”
“Now, Alfred Jones, or so help me, I will take Whittney to my father’s.”
Alfred felt the blood leave his face and swallowed, walking over to Arthur, leaving Lars on the front porch.
Once the older couple were in the kitchen, Arthur turned to his mate.
“I would like to remind you that my father didn’t like your courting me. He even told me not go to you. Do you remember what happened next?” Arthur said pointedly.
“I climbed to your window…and…” Alfred blushed.
“You claimed me, and I didn’t speak to my father until Whittney was born. And I warn you, if you keep acting like him, our daughter will leave us. The only thing is that I will go with her.”
“Artie…but you love me…”
“I do, and you're still my mate, but I will not leave my daughter.” He then gently touched his husband’s face.
“Artie…”
“Our daughter is in love with a boy, and like myself, she’s going to marry her boy someday,” Arthur replied, kissing Alfred’s lips.
My daddy said you wasn't worth a lick
When it came to brains, you got the short end of the stick
But he was wrong and honey, you are too
Katie looks at Tommy like I still look at you"
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
What's meant to be will always find a way
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
What's meant to be will always find a way
She's gonna marry that boy someday
