Chapter Text
Lime crawled through the vents, navigating their way from the reactor room. There had been yet another malfunction, which they just so had to fix. It took them two and a half hours, and they were exhausted.
"Huff...puff...Why is it so damn hot all of a sudden? I'm nowhere near that damn reactor anymore, or at least I shouldn't be..
Lime was completely unsure why they even felt this way. Their vision was blurry, they were exhausted, and they felt extremely weak.
Lime eventually angrily admitted to themselves that something was definitely NOT right. So, they scurried to the nearest opening and poked their head out of the vent. They were in electrical now.
"Hello, Lime!" Cyan exclaimed. That was before they got a good look at Lime. Cyan thought they were dying, actually.
"Lime, are you okay?"
"Huh? Yeah, big dog, what's the matter with you...?"
They said, with sweat covering their clothing.
Cyan began speaking to Lime with a hint of doubt in their voice. Lime couldn't even make out half the words!
"Lime? Lime, can you hear me?"
Cyan shook lime gently, but they didn't respond to their efforts. They'd passed out and weren't waking up for anything.
"Oh, oh no, uh... HELLO? IS ANYONE NEARBY?"
Cyan heard scurrying outside the electrical.
"Hey, Cyan. What's up? Oh, oh my. Are they—"
"PURPLE! LIME PASSED OUT! or something. Get Blue, please!"
"On it!"
Purple bolted out of the room and towards Medbay, where Blue was.
The doors slammed open, shaking the half-full cup of coffee on Blue's desk.
"Oh, Purple! You startled me–what's the issue?"
"Lime passed out. They're dying halfway through the vent in electrical."
"WHAT?"
Blue pushed their chair back, making it roll halfway across the room, and sprinted out, leaving Purple baffled. They'd never seen Blue that distraught...
"Do you wanna like...Pick them up together? Or we could—oh my."
Blue picked Lime up with both arms and jumped over the large pile of tangled wires that separated the small corner from the rest of the room, completely disregarding the astonished Cyan's current position.
Blue got back to medbay in a minute flat, maybe less. They set Lime onto a bed and quickly used a thermometer to check their temperature; it was 103.4°F.
"God damn it, Lime. How'd you even get this bad? They whispered under their breath. Lime was always a stubborn one when it came to medical procedures. Blue sighed. It'd probably be a bit before Lime woke up, so they decided it'd be wise to make the Medbay a more comforting environment, especially since Lime was the current patient. Blue dimmed the lights as low as they'd go, covered the camera with a small cloth, and set a glass of water next to the bed Lime lay on.
Four Hours later.
Lime woke up in a daze. They didn't know how they got wherever they were— and they weren't sure of what even happened to them. What they did know, however, was that they felt like shit.
"Lime? Are you awake?"
"Huh....oh. Blue? Is that you?"
"Yes, Lime. It's me."
Lime felt Blue looking over them.
"How do you feel?"
"Like the entirety of the ship fell on my head. Seriously, what even happened? I was in the electrical talking to Cyan!"
"You fainted, you have a pretty bad fever, Lime."
"I'm fine, Blue." But they were interrupted by a hoarse cough.
"Lime, please. I'd love to respect your wishes, but you need rest. What you have right now is a high-grade fever. Your body temperature is at 103.4."
Lime hated to admit it, but they needed to stay. They were shivering and had a blistering headache.
"Fine, I'll stay. Just—I'm only doing this 'cause I trust you, got it?"
"..Yeah, thanks, Lime. I trust you, too." Blue said, in that same soft tone they always spoke to Lime.
"Make sure you drink plenty of water, by the way. I left a glass next to you. I'd love to care for you further, but I need to finish signing and filling out these documents. Apologies for the bright screen." With the tap of a button, Blue's screen flickered on. The screen was annoyingly bright, but Lime didn't look away.
Lime watched Blue as they tapped buttons on their keyboard, finishing each column in the spreadsheet they had open. There were about 40 columns total, and Lime watched Blue type out every one.
"Lime, are you still awake?"
"..Yeah."
"I'm surprised, you've just been lying there staring at nothing for the past 2 hours? It's 2:06 am."
"Well, I guess." Lime lied. They'd rather go jump straight into the trash chute and eject themselves than admit they were watching Blue the entire time.
