Chapter Text
Queen
That Queen that was born from mud, the first Lady and Archon of Fontaine, the chivalrous and great leader of Hydro.
Humble beginnings that girl had, humbler than most may expect.
Born with her sister to a minor family in the heart of the nation of water, who owned little wealth or land to acclaim.
Not yet Queen or Archon, simply Egeria and her sister Foçalors.
When the girl was only at the tender age of thirteen, she and her parents had fallen off of a tall cliff off their carriage.
To the public and to written history afterwards, Egeria was the only survivor of the grievous wreck, which had given her drive to begin her life of conquering and uniting.
Though really, that infamous trickster bird, adversary of noble Naberius and her forest, had lent her a new body, made out of mud, after seeing her corpse in front of him.
As immortal as it made her, fragile it did also.
Foçalors became her ruler with her, and the two sisters worked tirelessly day in and day out, going on campaigns to subjugate their neighbors into a single nation of the name of “Fontaine”.
And dearest Foçalors had been granted a miracle from the heavenly gods above afterwards.
Children with no father, born out of her womb. Truly a miracle to experience, a beauty to behold.
Unfortunately, Egeria never saw her sister’s twins grow up.
On the march in Natlan, attempting to conquer more land, it is said she contracted Gula, caused by the sorceress Abyss, and perished then and there.
And so that was the end of The Mud Queen, Egeria, mud body crumbling on the battlefield, far, far away from her homeland.
Sorceress
A sorceress stayed at the Fontainian Royal Court for many years, coming to be known as one of Egeria and Foçalors’ advisors and close friends.
She called herself Skirk, though that was not her true original name. It has since been lost to time.
Most renowned for her sorcery, she could cast the most brilliant of spells powerfully and with a flick of her wrist. Only the sorceress known as ‘Abyss I.R’ could possibly overpower her, and they were known as magical rivals for many years.
She left court after the death of Foçalors, and began wandering the world, recruiting an apprentice along the way and being known in lands beyond Fontaine, in Liyue, Mondstadt, Natlan, and Snezhnaya.
She faded into obscurity after the reign of the Daughter of Evil, though legend has it that she and her apprentice are immortal, and have lived far longer than any historical record or mortal person could ever reasonably write down.
Twins
Beautiful children of the Lady Foçalors they were, a boy and a girl.
The girl, a lovely one named Furina, and a boy, gentle Neuvilette he came to be known.
Oh, poor children, horribly fated from the moment of their miraculous conception, certainly doomed to a life of tragedy and evil.
The court sorceress had said to the hopeful mother of the children, even while they were still in her womb, the children were destined to be reincarnations of the Genesis Girl and Ending Boy, the first of their kind, that they should suffer because of it.
They never ended up becoming the reincarnations of those two, however, due to plenty of circumstances not their own.
Dearest Furina was left all alone, Egeria and Foçalors having died when she was too young, and Neuvillette being whisked away to distant lands to keep him safe.
All because one day she snuck out onto the beach with her brother.
And so she was left to become The Daughter of Evil, Lady of Fontaine, a sinful woman, always being the pawn of the others around her, devoid of true autonomy.
Her twin returned years later, only for her to not recognize the brother she had once adored and loved beyond words could describe. Pitiful Neuvillette, even with this hindrance, still dedicated his being to her, and her life.
Dissent grew within her kingdom, and the people rose against her and the regime that had oppressed them for so long.
The twins of evil had split off here, one dying for the other to live on in their stead, as the story is told.
Both doomed to an afterlife of being playthings of the heavenly gods above them.
Hearth
Children of the Hearth and of Snezhnaya.
Cruçabena, Mother to many children of both her own blood and the ones she had lended her care to.
Yes, good children she raised, loyal children she raised. Loyal to their country, and to their mother.
That Duke, Head of the Fortress of Meropide, raised under her tutelage, who wielded himself a sword and vision, who rose quickly in the ranks of Snezhnayan nobility for his ability.
Clervie, sweet two-faced girl, now woman, who raised her own children softly whilst also holding herself grave secrets.
The Knave, Arlecchino, fierce warrior, who amassed herself a fortune in trade as well as a bloodstained scythe, a staunch one in her beliefs.
Yes, they were her perfect little puppets. Mother’s dearest children. Each and every one of them.
Girl
For the tale of the blonde and disgraced girl who would pray at the tree of Lady Naberius, to rid herself of the tragedy that had plagued her life, is truly saddening.
Dear Navia, oh so cursed by her lineage, daughter of a shaman and daughter of criminals, pitiful she was.
For nobody would care for her, and nobody would pay her any other mind other than sneers and insults.
Every day and every dusk she would come, and scrape her knees unto the dirt and brush below, for a simple ask.
A companion.
Eventually she would be given one, one that became not just her companion, but her dear friend and lover.
So cruelly ripped from her, too early, when their lives had only just begun.
Spirit
Wildlife thrived within the beautiful forest of Lady Naberius.
Beautiful plants and animals that roamed the wilds called her forest their home, and travelers came from far and wide in order to see its glory and for worshippers to pray.
The place where the sorceress had recruited her two apprentices.
One stayed by her side, and the other stayed by the side of a lonely girl wishing for a companion.
The purple haired lady, so loved and adored that even the young Queen grew jealous of her adoration.
The ‘diva of Fontaine’, she was called, becoming nothing but an attraction for others to gaze upon.
Clorinde was her name, but many had either forgotten or ignored it.
For all she wanted was a quiet life with the other half of her heart, in the sacred forest where they had met.
Mercenary
In the foggy mountains of Chenyu Vale, a girl was born.
A descendant of that truly vile man, that demon Emperor, and his noble imperial consort, her life was doomed from the beginning.
Lacking a father, and a dead mother and sister, she took her work with the Millelith and changed her name, becoming ‘Chevreuse’, though eventually deserting after the mysterious murder of a high ranking general.
She became a mercenary, a vagabond who would wander, charming men and women of the likes with shotgun in hand.
Though, sometimes in the corner of her eye, she can still see that haunting foggy visage that encouraged her to take this path, and wonder if she would ever come back to see it once more.
Maids
They were not perceived as weak.
Not the ones working for the young Queen, that is.
It took much restraint and much willpower to willingly work for that brat of a tyrant, but the pay was well, much better than the scant pay the peasants working in the field received for their hard labor.
Though it wasn’t like they were loyal to the Queen, far from it.
Not one would freely express their dissent, in fear of the Queen’s wrath, but it was clear that many had hatred for their monarch beneath their formal appearances and quiet eminence.
Whispers floated about over those two maids in particular.
“Why would the famed daughter of a chef be a lowly maid to the Daughter of Evil?”
“I heard that she’s good at toxicology. Wonder what she’s gonna do with that skill…”
A daughter of a chef, a daughter of a general.
Working in the shadows, but never forgotten.
This is the story of evil, and the story of everyone who was in it.
