Chapter Text
Morty felt off as soon as he woke up that morning, but he didn't think too much about it. There were some times when he just woke up and didn't feel right all day. It was usually nothing to be concerned about.
What he found more concerning was that he'd apparently fallen asleep in his clothes. He rarely did that. He almost considered changing into a clean yellow shirt and pair of jeans, but his current outfit didn't smell and it wasn't wrinkled, so he didn't really see the point.
He decided to skip using the bathroom, in favor of heading downstairs for some food. He was fucking starving, for some reason, and decided everything else could wait until he'd eaten something. As soon as he entered the dining room, all conversation stopped and Morty glanced around the table as he sat down. Both Summer and his parents were staring at him with wide eyes and Morty figured he must have some crazy bedhead or something.
"Uhhhhh, Morty?" Summer was giving him a really weird look, like she'd never seen him before.
Actually, his entire family was giving him that same look and Morty found it a little irritating. "What, Summer?!"
His eyes widened at the soft feminine voice that came out of his mouth. He raised his hands to his mouth, unable to believe that had come out of him, even though he'd literally just heard himself speak. "What the fuck?!"
Holy shit!
That was NOT his voice. His voice was certainly high pitched, but it wasn't that high pitched. He almost sounded like.....
He shoved his chair back and immediately rushed towards the downstairs bathroom. One look in the mirror confirmed his worst fear.
His face was rounded with a soft jawline. There was long, fluffy hair flowing down his back and his previously flat chest now had two small bumps that definitely hadn't been there the previous night.
He was a fucking girl!
Morty started screaming, watching as the girl staring back at him copied the movement, and he stumbled backwards out of the bathroom. He could hear his parents yelling his name from the dining room, clearly not having expected such an outburst from him and now worrying about him, but Morty ignored them.
There was only one person Morty wanted to speak to right now.
"RIIIIIIIICK!" His grandpa must have done this. There was no other explanation. He ran through the house, ignoring his family as they called out to him, and burst into the garage. Rick's back was to him and he was leaning over the counter in his seat, clearly intensely focused on something. "What the hell, Rick?"
"Geez, good morning to you too." Rick finally stopped what he was doing and rolled the chair around so he was facing Morty, however his expression didn't change in the slightest as he took in Morty's now female form. "What's up, Morty?"
Morty's eyes narrowed dangerously as he squinted up at Rick. Despite the nonchalant behavior, he knew Rick had done something to him. Gender transitions were obviously a thing - Morty wasn't oblivious about transgender people - but it wasn't something that just magically happened over night. "What the FUCK did you do to me?!"
"I don't know what you're talking about." He did, in fact, know what Morty was talking about, but he wasn't about to admit to it out loud. Morty was clearly furious with him and he wasn't about to incur that wrath even further by admitting what he'd done.
"Fine, if you want to play it that way, I'm telling mom!" He turned on his heel, but didn't even get to take one step forward before a hand was grabbing his wrist. "Let go of me."
"Come on, Morty. Hold on now!" He winced when Morty kicked him in the shin, instinctively letting go to grab his now aching shin and cursed when Morty sprinted into the house. "Get back here, you little shit."
"MOM! MOM, GRANDPA TURNED ME INTO A GIRL!"
As soon as Rick entered the dining room, he knew he was in trouble. Morty was hiding behind Beth, who had stood up from the table and was glaring across the room at him, her arms crossed over her chest. "Beth, I can explain-"
"What the fuck, dad?! Why in God's name would you turn my son into a girl?"
Jerry rolled his eyes at that, completely unsurprised that Rick was the cause of this. "Why am I not surprised?"
"Shut up, Jerry. He fucking deserved it. The little shit was making fun of me yesterday and he wouldn't stop, even after I fucking asked." Rick glared at him and Morty simply returned the glare, sticking his tongue out. "He's lucky I didn't turn him to a pile of shit or a piece of furniture."
"Turn me back. Now!"
That was going to be a problem. Rick had definitely been drunk when he'd done that last night and he'd be lying if he said this wasn't one of the funniest ideas his drunk self had ever come up with. In any case, he'd have to go over footage from the garage camera to see how exactly he'd done it. "I.... can do it when you get home from school."
"No fucking way I'm going to school like this!"
Morty's eyes grew comically wide and, if Rick wasn't currently receiving glares from every member of the family, he would have laughed so fucking hard at the look on his grandson's face.
"Dad, turn Morty back into a boy."
"I can't, okay?! I was drunk last night. It's going to take me few hours to fix this. Maybe next time you'll think again before making fun of me."
"You did this to teach him a lesson?" Jerry sighed in disappointment and ran a hand down his face. "Rick, what did we tell you about using science and tech to teach our kids a lesson?"
"Oh, relax, Jerry. It's not permanent.... probably."
"Oh my god." Tears of frustration welled up in Morty's eyes and he frantically reached up to tug on his hair, completely forgetting it was long now. He immediately yanked his hand away at the unfamiliar feeling. "I'm going to be stuck like this, aren't I?"
"Calm down, drama queen. Woah, hey!" Rick ducked when Morty lunged forward and picked up one of the plates, hurling it at him. Rick growled as he brushed eggs and bits of greasy bacon off his labcoat. Neither Beth, nor Jerry reprimanded him, which meant they both fully believed Morty was well within his rights to have done that and Rick was a little pissed that nobody else was impressed by what he'd managed to accomplish. "What the fuck, you little shit?!"
"Don't talk to me, asshole." Morty turned on his heel and stomped towards the stairs, planning to go hide in his room for the day, however his mom's voice stopped him.
"Morty, honey. You and Summer have to go. You're going to be late for school."
"Mom, no. Please! You can't make me go to school like this."
Beth tried to ignore how his devastated expression tugged at her heartstrings. She wanted to let him stay home, but he couldn't miss anymore days of school. They'd received their final warning from the school only a few months ago. "I'm sorry, honey. You can't miss anymore school days."
Morty knew exactly why that was too. He couldn't miss anymore days because of all the times Rick had pulled him out of class. It was all Rick's fault and he glared at his grandpa once again. "I fucking hate you right now."
"Hey-"
Morty didn't give him a chance to answer and stormed towards the front door. "I'll be waiting in the fucking car."
Summer joined him a few minutes later, sliding into the backseat beside him. "You'll be happy to know Mom and dad are yelling at Rick right now. They are pissed."
"Good." Morty was also pissed. He already hated going to school to begin with, but now he was going to have to face everyone as a girl. He was sure the bullying would be brutal today.
"Hey, come here." Summer leaned over and began smoothing Morty's long hair down. When that didn't work, she pulled her hairbrush from her backpack and began running it through his hair. She ignored the irritated look on his face. She was doing him a huge favor and he wasn't even aware of it. "Trust me. Long hair is a bitch to take care of if you let it turn into a rat's nest."
Morty could feel the tension leaving him at that explanation. He realized Summer would know more about long hair than he would and he offered her a weak smile. "Thanks."
"No problem. You know, I wish my hair was as thick as yours. I'm kinda jealous." She hoped he didn't take offense to that and she flashed him a wide grin as she stuffed her brush back in her bag.
"Really?" Morty didn't get a chance to say anything else. The driver's side door opened and Jerry collapsed into the driver's seat with a heavy sigh.
"Okay, let's get you guys to school. Morty, your grandfather has started working on a way to turn you back."
Morty felt a little bit better knowing that. He was sure Rick would try and put it off for as long as possible just to fuck with him.
The drive to their school was silent and, while it's not like they usually talked a lot on the way to school anyways, this time it was an uncomfortable silence. No one really knew what to say that didn't have to do with the elephant in the room.
Morty slumped down in his seat as his dad pulled up outside the school. He was reaaaally not looking forward this.
Jerry noticed his hesitation to get out and sent his son a sympathetic look in the rearview mirror. "I know you don't want to go, Morty, and I wish we could let you stay home, but you have to go."
Morty climbed out of the car, joining Summer on the sidewalk, and waved as their dad pulled away from the curb. The school loomed ominously ahead of him and he groaned as he fought the urge to just walk away. "Alright, let's get this shit over with."
The second they walked through the front doors, Morty could feel everyone's eyes on him. People who had never once spared him a single glance were now staring at him and, without even realizing it, he shifted closer to Summer.
"Morty?! Is that you?"
Oh god.
That was Jessica.
Morty wanted nothing more than to sink through the floor and disappear. He took a deep breath to calm himself, knowing there was no way he was going to be able to avoid this confrontation and turned around to face her with a forced smile on his face. "Oh, h-h-hey, Jessica."
She stopped right in front of him and rested a gentle hand on his shoulder, sending him a blinding smile. "Woooow, you look cute as a girl, Morty."
Morty could feel his face flush at that. Who knew that Jessica would like him better as a girl?
"I.... th-th-that's really..... wow, thanks." He actually fucking giggled at that and internally cringed at the reaction as Jessica passed by him.
"I'll see you in class later, Morty."
"B-b-bye.... bye, Jessica."
"Geez, you should have let Grandpa turn you into a girl sooner. You're going to be super popular."
Morty had completely forgotten Summer was standing behind him and he turned to glare up at his sister. "That's ridiculous. In a few hours, it's going to get old and everyone's going to go back to fucking ignoring me."
Turns out, it did not get old. Everyone was impressed and infatuated with Morty's feminine form.
Brad and the other cool kids actually invited him to sit with them at lunch, Tricia brushed and did his hair for him, and Jessica even did his makeup. As mortifying as it was to be stuck as a girl, Morty couldn't deny the positive attention from his peers was nice. People paid attention to him, listened to what he had to say, and actually laughed when he said something funny.
It wasn't nearly as disastrous of a day as he'd been expecting and he was in a great mood when his mom pulled up at the curb to pick him and Summer up from school. However, that good mood didn't last long once his mom commented on his appearance.
"Wow, Morty, honey. You look so cute."
"Mom!" Morty could feel his face and neck grow warm as embarrassment washed over him. He buckled himself in and frowned at her when she looked at him in the rearview mirror. "Don't call me cute."
"Alright, alright. I'm sorry." But she didn't look the least bit sorry.
As soon as they got home, Morty made a beeline straight for the garage. Rick was slumped back in the rolling chair with a can of beer in his hand and Morty couldn't help rolling his eyes at that. "You better not get so drunk that you can't change me back."
"Yeah, yeah. I didn't forget about it." Rick tossed the empty can onto the workbench and turned to face his grandson. "So, how was your first day of school, Morticia?"
"Don't call me that!" Morty picked up the closest object, an empty beer can, and threw it at Rick, however a turret came out of his grandpa's shoulder and simply vaporized the can. Rick had clearly learned his lesson after having a plate thrown at him earlier.
"Geez, calm down. It was just a joke." Rick felt a little bad about the whole thing. He'd intended it to be funny, but Morty was clearly uncomfortable and upset about the whole thing. "Hey, if it makes you feel any better, the serum should be done soon, okay?"
That did, in fact, make him feel better and Morty gave Rick a genuine smile. He knew this was Rick's fault, but if his grandpa was indeed being truthful then Morty didn't want to keep being an asshole about it. "Okay. Thanks, Rick."
