Work Text:
You're practically the “Jack of all Trades” in the good aspects. You're outgoing, athletic, good-looking, and of course kind-hearted. You walk around the school hallways with grace that speaks perfect in every way. This gained you a lot of traction and admirers, especially from the nerdiest programmer of the entire school.
Sai doesn't usually pay attention to anyone when he's working on his programming, his surroundings turn into nothing but background noise to him. Every passerby goes unnoticed to him, but you were an exception. It all started when he decided to take a break from coding and grab a drink. He was walking down the hallways until you were running and ended up bumping into him, knocking over the poor boy onto the floor. His eyes were closed from impact as soon as his back hit the floor.
“Oh my! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?” You cried out in worry, eyes wide in concern.
“I-I'm fine. No worries.” He slowly opened his eyes and found you staring at him like you actually cared about his state.
“Here, let me help you up.” You held out your hand towards him with a gentle smile.
His brain buffered for a second from your gesture. He couldn't believe someone like you would offer to help a loser like him. Hesitantly, he grabbed your hand and you helped him stand up. He felt the warmth of your hand against his cold one, his cheeks flushed slightly from the contact.
“I'm glad you're okay. I was worried I badly injured a stranger.” You said, your hand still holding onto his.
Just as he was about to reassure you again, you finally let go of his hand and exchanged a few words. “Unfortunately I should be going now, hopefully I'll see you soon, you seem nice to be with!” You immediately ran off again and waved him a good bye.
His face turned bright red now, you actually want to see him again. Him. A guy that does nothing but code at the back of the school library. He's confused how could someone so vibrant and loud find a geek like him interesting at all. He slammed his back against a wall and buried his face in his hands in an attempt to calm down.
‘Relax! Relax! Relax! It was only a simple interaction!’ But he couldn't stop thinking about you. The way your hand fitted perfectly in his, the way the warmth of it radiated, the way your smile shined brighter than most galaxies. He felt like he just met an angel, and he can't help but think how stupid he must've looked towards you. He's really screwed up.
But under all of those thoughts, he still wants to meet you again. You really did managed to catch the attention of this nerd with ease.
…
The next day arrives, and he's shaking quite badly. He's so much more nervous than his own nervous system. He walks through the school's hallways, searching you left and right. To everyone else, he looks like he got himself in trouble with a teacher, but in reality he just wants to find you.
After a few minutes of searching, he finds you inside your classroom by the open door, but you weren't alone. Almost half of the class was surrounding you, nearly blocking you from his vision.
‘Of course, they're one of the most popular kids here. Why should a nobody like me approach them?’ He slightly frowned at the thought. Not wanting to disturb you, he decided it's best to leave and go on his own way. It looks like he has to wait for recess.
…
3 hours passed and the bell finally rang. He jumps up from his seat and walks hastily through the crowd. Quite unlike him to be so eager to see people willingly.
His eyes frantically searched you in the hallways. He paid no mind to his surroundings, which resulted in bumping into a locker. It made a few students chuckle at his clumsy demeanor, causing him to grow embarrassed. Unfortunately for him, it wasn't just some random locker, it was…
“Hey it's you again!” You beamed.
It was at this moment that Sai knew, he's 10x feeling worse now.
“I didn't mean to, well uhm, hit your locker!” He waved his hands hurriedly.
You giggled at the sight of him. “Relax, silly, it's cool.” You patted his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down. “But I need some books in there so… would you mind moving aside?” You asked politely, your voice was soft that it made him lose track of your words for a second.
“Oh sorry! I'll get going now!” What he planned on just moving a step away, turned into him running away like he's in a marathon.
‘What is wrong with me?!’ He repeated that in his head as he ran, face feeling hot in mortification. He didn't get the chance to see the slight disappointment in your face when he left you.
…
He's currently sitting quietly at the back of the classroom, thinking about how he's been acting lately. These past few days have been nothing but full of failures and embarrassing moments. Whenever you approach him, he always fumbles himself in words and actions, making him look like an absolute idiot. To be fair, you are his first crush, he's not sure how to act properly when it comes to love. He's losing his mind from his lack of experience. It makes him feel even worse when you're always on his mind.
“Good morning Sai!!!”
“It's so good to see you, Sai!”
“Come sit with us!”
“I'm so glad you're here with me!”
Your sweet words have him on a leash. He can't stop thinking about how eager you were to see him. The way your eyes lit up when you saw him, it was mesmerizing. Unfortunately for the boy, he didn't notice you were running to his desk.
“Sai! There you are!” You were practically jumping in front of him.
His eyes went wide and his face turned red from your sudden appearance. “Hey… what's up?” He gave his best to compose his words properly.
“My buddies are pretty busy right now, so I was thinking of having you walk with me to my home.” You exclaimed it so casually as if you were friends with him for years.
He was shocked that you would invite him to walk you home. Him of all people! “O-of course!” He bluntly said, not wanting to pass this opportunity down.
“Great! Come on slowpoke, pack your things already!” You cheered and went off to wait for him outside the classroom. He quickly picks up his bag and follows where you exited.
…
He didn't expect this to be a possible outcome between the two of you. You're walking besides him now in the hallways of the school. A lot of students turned to look at you two, wondering how someone so well-known be with a geek like him. He's not liking the attention one bit, for someone so shy, this is one of the worst scenarios to be in.
You both were almost at the gate, until some students stopped you from walking any further.
“Hey!! We were wondering why you're with this guy? Is he your boyfriend? How long have you been together?” They all squealed.
He could feel his face turn into different shades of red from their question. But he's worried if it makes you uncomfortable, after all, having a loser boyfriend might be bad for your reputation. To his surprise, your answer shocked everyone.
“Sorry guys! I'll answer those questions tomorrow, I need to go home as soon as possible.” You responded, your tone was neither agreeing or disagreeing to what they said. The students collectively retreated, not wanting to press any further. Sai felt confused why didn't you say no, but thought nothing too much of it.
You proceeded to go outside the gates with Sai by your side. The silence settles between you, the atmosphere feeling a bit awkward. But it broke when you spoke up after a few moments.
“I'm so sorry about that Sai, they don't mean anything harm to it! They were just curious…” You explained.
“That's okay! I was hoping it didn't make you feel weird.” He reassured you.
“Weird? Why would I feel weird?”
“About me being your boyfriend and all…” He muttered as quietly as he could. But somehow you heard it as clear as day.
“Oh that. If I'm going to be honest, I wasn't sure how to answer that question.”
“Excuse me?” His tone was laced with confusion.
“It's nothing! Anyways, we're almost at my house. You should probably get going now.”
“Right! I'll see you tomorrow?”
“Yep! Definitely.” You gave him a thumbs up with the biggest grin.
“O-okay. Good bye..” He waved you off and headed back in the opposite direction.
“Good bye Sai!” You shouted as you waved with twice the energy.
He's really glad he's getting a little closer to you, who would've thought you're the special person he has in his heart. He thinks that maybe someday you'll like him back as much as he does. He can't wait for that day.
Little did he know, you liked him the day you bumped into each other. ‘Is he really that oblivious? So much for a nerd.’ You giggled at the thought. Yeah, unfortunately he still doesn't know about your feelings.
