Work Text:
The feeling of being boiled alive while at home in his bed was not something Michael enjoyed. It took his sleep deprived brain a few minutes to even figure out what was happening. They hadn’t opened the blinds and curtains in days, the heat belting down on the little log cabin without mercy since Monday.
And the heat wasn’t coming from him.
In an instant he was awake, sitting up, hands goign to Kitt’s face, and pulling them back at the near unbearable heat.
“Kitt?” he asked, panic surging through him so easily at the sight.
The AI had warned him, that the weather was starting to border on dangerous, but there was little they could do about it. Kitt had overheated a few times in the past years, but never from outside factors.
Grey eyes opened just enough so they could focus on Michael. “There you are…”
“’s too hot…” he managed, and Michael ground his teeth. In the car that would have never happened.
“I know, baby…” He muttered, pulling Kitt’s shirt over his head. There was little protest at the motion. Socks and pants followed and in other circumstances this would have been incredibly attractive, but this wasn’t any situation Michael wanted to be in right now.
Kitt grunted when Michael lifted him into his arms and carried him into the bathroom to dump him into the tub. Not the first time he had to do it, although there was nothing he could do about the house feeling like a sauna, and if they stayed here this would jsut keep happening until the heatwave passed.
As he turned on the faucet he made sure to start it lukewarm and then gradually lowered the temperature of the water as he doused his partner in it. “…How about we go for a drive after this…”
“The car doesn’t have Air conditioning.” Kitt reminded him weakly, but there was this glint in his eyes.
“I know whose has though.” Michael smirked.
Kitt grabbed a sponge from the side of the tub, dunking it into the water before he threw it at Michael, hitting him square in the face.
“…What was that for?”
“Trying to drag my brother out there in the heatwave. He’s probably struggling just as much.”
“Bet he’s holed up in Cindy’s basement playing video games with Avery.”
“Not a bad idea.” Kitt shrugged, starting to sit up in the half filled tub. He grabbed the hose from Michael, letting the steady stream of water hit his face first, then his shoulders.
Michael stared for a moment, then had to turn away. “…Do you have to make it look so…”
“Attractive?” Kitt challenged.
“Buddy, it’s too warm for anything right now-”
“You denying the prospect of sex?” the grin was audible in his voice.
Michael whipped around, eyes wide. “Kitt! It’s a sauna in here!”
“I am well aware.” Kitt muttered, drenching his hair.
“We could go to the pool.”
Kitt stared at the water surrounding him, then looked up at Michael. “…I don’t like being submerged. You know that.”
“And yet there you are.” Michael crouched down, dropping his hands into the cool water. “Splashing in the bathtub-”
Kitt looked at him, the smirk still dancing on his lips, “Giving you an erection.”
Michael groaned, running his hands over his wave. “I’m gonna need a cold shower.”
“Not recommended in these temperatures.”
“Then stop trying to make it worse.”
Kitt tilted his head, flicking water at him. “You should be grateful you can even still get hard at your age.”
Michael shook his head, chuckling. “That’s all your fault.”
“I know.” Kitt gave him a shit eating grin, pointing the hose at him.
Instead of jumping away from the cool stream of water, Michael simply dropped his head further down, letting the water drench his hair.
“You’re overheating too.” Kitt commented.
“I grew up in Nevada. I should be used to this shit.”
“The coastal heat is different from the desert heat.” Kitt reminded him. “And you lived in California for almost 30 years.”
“We could go to the beach.”
“It is 105 degrees outside, Michael.”
“So about as much as in here.” Michael sighed. “Or we go to a store that has A/C.”
“Or you finally have Air conditioning installed here…”
Michael looked up, the water dripping down his face. He didn’t bother wiping it away. “That’s not going to help you right now, though.”
“My temperature is almost back to normal.” Kitt shrugged. “It won’t stay that way if i leave here, however.”
Michael nodded, grimacing. “So we call someone with air con in their car, to taxi us somewhere cooler.”
“You could also finally buy a car that just…”
Michael held up his index finger to silence him. “You have been jealous of my chevy since forever. And that’s exactly why I keep it.”
“The Trans Am had air con.” Kitt crossed his arms with a small pout.
“Which is currently in hundreds of pieces in Bonnie’s garage. Your point?”
Kitt tipped his head backwards with an annoyed groan. “This is a nightmare.”
“Oh, I’m enjoying the view.” Michael chuckled.
Kitt turned his head, still tipped over backwards, glancing at Michael from the corner of his eyes. “Cindy’s pool.”
A triumphant grin made its way to Michael’s lips and he stood to get his phone. At the door he looked back into the bathroom. “Can I talk you into a t-shirt today?”
“That depends.”
“On what?”
“How compelling your argument is.” Kitt deadpanned.
“You’ll melt in a dress shirt.” Michael shrugged.
“Fine.”
“Shorts too?”
Michael managed to jump out of the way of the sponge flying at him again, hitting the carpeted floor of the bedroom with a wet squelch, instead. A loud cackle echoed through the room as Michael went to call Cindy.
