Chapter Text

Asriel exited the car, looking at the house he was now moving into with his family. He imagines living years of his life here, hoping that it will be enjoyable.

Asriel hadn’t realized how long he’d been daydreaming about how life here would be, only looking away when hearing the voice of his mother

“Asriel, are you alright? I know it’s a big change but it’ll be good for us.”

“O-oh, yeah. I’m fine. Just thinking.”

“Which side do you want, Kris?”

Kris points to the right side of the room.

“Alright,” Asriel unpacks his belongings on the left side of the room, Kris does the same on their side.

Unpacking everything took a while. There were so many steps with moving, Big boxes, smaller boxes, moving trucks, furniture, etc. This was probably one of the less enjoyable parts of moving.

After a few hours, Asriel grew tired of the repetitive unpacking, so he decided to do something else.

“Hey Mom! I’m gonna go out to see the town,” He called towards Toriel as he started to make his exit.

“Alright honey! Take Kris with you too!”

“Ok!” He called back to her. Even though Kris was younger than he was, he didn’t mind bringing them along. As most people would see their younger sibling as a tag-along or annoying, all Asriel saw was how much he cared for them.

He went back into his and Kris’ room to get them,

“Hey Kris, wanna come explore outside?” He asked them.

Kris nodded with a smile and followed Asriel outside.

As they headed past their house, Asriel noticed a huge gate blocking a path. He wondered what that led to.

The town was huge to the two kids. There were so many stores, houses, and much more. There was even a lake not too far off from here!

It was lively across the town. Their old place wasn’t like this. People barely interacted with one another and there wasn’t much to do. This will be a nice change of pace.

People were basically swarming them, asking who they were. This was a small town (even if Asriel and Kris thought otherwise), so everybody knew everybody who lived here. Seeing new faces was unusual for such a small town like this.

“Oh- haha, we just moved in! We were just looking around to see what it’s like here,” Asriel responded kindly to the people asking.

That's when he saw her. Not going up to him but walking away, completely ignoring the small crowd forming to see the new additions to the town.

She had striking dark hair and two blue antlers. She was wearing a red plaid jacket, a white t-shirt underneath, ripped jeans, and converse sneakers.

Just the sight of her was enough to make Asriel start stumbling on his words as he was talking to the crowd.
“How do you like it so far?” someone asked him

“O-oh u-uhm it’s….Nice! It’s nice here,” He kept taking glances at her while talking, “Really nice. I-I’ll be right back.”

He made his way through the crowd to try and talk to her. It was like his body was moving on its own, everything else he had previously been thinking about had vanished from his mind. Nothing else was real. Only her. Even his steps didn’t feel real. What is he doing? Why is he-

“Hello? Can I help you?” The girl said, looking at Asriel like he was crazy

Asriel quickly broke out of his trance and said something, “Uhm, Hi! I just moved in here, wanted to say hi. Just getting to know everyone, you know?” Oh god he messed that up.

The girl chuckles a bit, probably from how nervous he seemed, “Cool. I’m December, you?”
“December? Like the month??” Asriel looked at her in disbelief.

“Yeah,” She chuckles, “I get that a lot, it’s a stupid name”

“No,” Asriel started, “I think it’s really pretty” He smiled

“Oh” she stared blankly at him.

“I’m Asriel,” he brought up his hand to shake hers. She brought up her hand and shook his.

Then he heard a voice behind him.

“Azzy…” It sounded a mix of annoyed and sad.

“H-huh?” he let go of December’s hand and looked behind him, seeing Kris waiting for him to notice them.

“O-oh Kris! Oh I… left you just now didn’t I?”

Kris nods angrily. Asriel crouches down to be at their level.

“Sorry Kris…” Asriel felt bad for leaving them. He then remembers that December is still there, he stands back up, “Oh! December, this is my younger sibling, Kris.”

Kris smiles and waves at her.

“Hello there,” she waves back, then she looks at Asriel “I have a younger sibling too, they might even be the same age.”

“Oh nice, Kris you might have a new friend soon,” He smiles at Kris. Kris smiles back.

“We should meet up again sometime, and bring Kris along, I’ll bring my sister,”

Asriel could practically hear his heart pounding in his chest, “Yeah, sure!”

“Meet me at the lake tomorrow at noon”

“We’ll be there,” he smiles at her, trying not to look ecstatic. She invited him out? This couldn’t be going any better.

“You guys have been out for a while” Toriel says as Asriel and Kris get back. She and Asgore have already started eating dinner and are sitting at the dinner table. Asriel and Kris sit with them.

“We were uh… looking around and…meeting new people” Asriel explains, trying his best not to start going on and on about the girl he just met.

Kris nods

“You already made new friends? Look at you guys,” Asgore smiles, happy that they are enjoying themselves.

“I told you that it wouldn’t be that bad,” she reminds Asriel warmly.

Asriel lay in bed. Unable to sleep. Tomorrow he’s gonna see her again. Gosh, he shouldn’t be thinking of only her right now. He just moved. He should be thinking of what he’s going to do in this new town, what school he’s going to go to, what daily life is going to be like, and stuff like that. His mind shouldn’t be focused on her. Yet, it is. God, she’s so cool.

“Azzy, are you awake?” Kris suddenly says

“Yeah, anything wrong?” He responds, worried

“I can’t sleep…”

“Me neither.”

“...”

“Here what about we-”

Asriel was interrupted by Kris snoring. Somehow they had already fallen asleep.
He laughs to himself, not expecting that to happen. He should try to sleep harder. He closes his eyes and thinks about what the next day could be like…

“Azzy,” He heard a voice call out to him. He felt someone poking at him.

“Wha- Kris?? Stop poking me…” Asriel was half asleep, still being tired. Kris kept poking him. Asriel finally got up after a few minutes of poking.

“Fine, what is it?”

Kris pointed to the clock on the wall. It was 11:30 am. Almost noon. Firstly, how did he sleep that much? Was he that tired? And secondly, he’s gonna be late to the lake!

He quickly got up and got ready for the day.

When he went into the kitchen, there was a plate of pancakes, they were cold. Yeah. He definitely slept way too much. He still ate the pancakes though. He wasn’t going to skip a good breakfast.

Before they both left, they had to do something. Asriel went into the living room, finding Toriel on her chair, reading.

“Hey Mom? Kris and I have plans with some friends, we’re gonna go out for a bit.”

Kris nodded, agreeing.

“You guys have plans already?” Toriel started, “That’s… Wonderful! I’m so happy that you guys are already getting so well adjusted! Go have fun you two!” She was always happy when they mentioned friends. Especially if Kris was also going.

They left the house, heading towards the lake. It wasn’t that far, just a few blocks away. Asriel’s heart was beating fast, he wasn’t even sure why. I mean, they just met. He’s probably just excited about making a new friend. Even if they just talked, he was still over the moon about this.

The two make it over to the lake after a few minutes. December is sitting on a table while another younger deer is playing near the shore of the beach. Probably playing with the water or sand.

“Hey!” Asriel waved over to December.

“Oh! Hey!” She waved back, standing up to go over to him, "What's up”

He smiles at her “nothing, how about you?”

“Same here,” she notices Kris standing beside Asriel, “Wait a sec..” She turns her head toward the lake, “Noelle! Come over here!” She calls out.

The younger deer, Noelle, stops playing and happily comes towards the three. She notices Asriel and Kris and quickly tries to hide behind December, not used to meeting new people.

“Hey, it’s ok, these are our friends,” She tries reassuring Noelle. Noelle slowly moves from behind her sister to see the two other kids in front of her. She waves shyly. Kris and Asriel wave back. Kris is smirking mischievously. Asriel sees this and sighs,

“Kris, be nice to Noelle, ok?”

Kris nods, acting innocent, and smiles at Noelle. Noelle gives a smile back.

“Why don’t you two go play by the shore? Me and Asriel will stay by the table” December offers. The two younger children nod and run off toward the lake. Now it was just Asriel and December. Oh god.

They sit there for a second. Both of them are trying to think of something to say.

“So… why’d you guys move here?” December asks.

“I…” Asriel thought for a moment, “I’m actually not sure. One day, my parents had just told me that we were moving. I guess I didn’t question it. I had no reason to, really. I didn’t really mind going somewhere new.”

“Oh… well, if that were me, I would've totally asked why!” She exclaimed, "I'm not just going to go on living somewhere entirely new for no reason! I would've been pissed without an answer.”

Asriel chuckles. December looks towards him, confused. He starts laughing a bit harder, trying to hold back a little.

“What??” December asks, obviously confused

“Nothing, nothing, it's just that… you were so passionate about that! I mean, it seems like you cared more than I did! And I was the one who moved!”

“Oh- uh- yeah i guss” she laughed with him.

“So how long have you lived here?” Asriel asks

“All my life, I’m pretty sure.” December responds

“Oh really?”

“Yup”

“Wow, I’m sure you know this place front and back then,” he chuckles.

“Haha, pretty much”

“…”

“…”

“…”

“So…Asriel, tell me about yourself. What are your hobbies, stuff you like to do?” She smoothly ignites another conversation.

“Well…”

They go on for a while longer. They laugh, joke, and make good conversation. It feels like minutes to them but it has been much longer.

“Hey… wait where’s Kris and Noelle?” Asriel finally notices the absence of the two younger kids.

“Wait what?” December looks towards the shore and her eyes widen, “where did they go? How did they…”

“You don't think they’re in the…”

“No… they couldn't be-“

That's when she feels a hand on her shoulder.

“Boo!” Kris and Noelle both shout.

Asriel and December practically jump in their seats. Kris and Noelle both start giggling.

“W-what?” December is dumbfounded.

“Guys! Come on… that wasn't funny…” Asriel’s heart is still rapid from the shock. Kris laughs more.

“Wha- Kris! This was your idea wasn't it?” Asriel sighs. Kris looks away, smiling ever so innocently.

Asriel chuckles, “I should've known you would try something like that,” he ruffles Kris’ hair, he then looks over at December, “Uhm, Kris likes to do things like that, and I guess they roped in Noelle to help too, sorry.”

“Oh- er- no, no, it’s fine,” she laughs a bit, “I don’t think Noelle has ever done anything like that.”

Noelle looks away shyly. Asriel and Dess both give off a small laugh.
That's when they all hear a ringtone from December’s pocket. She scrambles to answer the call.

“Hello?..........Oh, ok. Yeah, we’ll be there……..bye,” She hangs up and looks at the others, there's a small hint of sadness in her voice, just barely audiable, “Yeah, sorry, that was our mom, Noelle and I have to go,” she stands up from the table. Noelle follows.

“Oh, bye, December,” Asriel waves goodbye, “Cya around?”

“Yeah. Cya, Azzy,” she smiles back to him as she walks away.

Asriel could feel his heart beating after hearing the nickname come from her mouth.
