Chapter Text
Katara, eight years old.
"Mom?" I ask, wide eyed and full of fear.
"Shh," She says, stroking my hair, "It'll be oka-"
Crash.
Fire nation soldiers enter the igloo we're hiding in.
"Where is she?" They demand, "Where is the last waterbender?"
My mother looks at me, then at them, "If I tell you will you let me live?" She asks, her voice shaky.
The soldier infront nods and my mother turns to me, "I'm sorry," she whispers into my hair, as she hands me over to them.
"No! Mom! Please!" I cry as they drag me away, into their ship and thrown into a prison cell as I curl into a corner and weep.

I watch as they drag my daughter away. I'm left kneeling on the floor, her screams echoing in my brain like a broken record player.
The village is silent, like its holding its breath for the people we lost today.
I walk outside of the igloo, tears falling down my face as I stalk the outside of the village, getting pitiful looks whenever I see anyone.
"Mom!" I look up and see Sokka running towards me, he stops, frowns then asks, "Where's my sister?"
I kneel down to his level, "I- sweetie, she's- she's gone. The fire nation took her."
He looks up me, eyes glistening with tears, the starts crying and wraps his arms around me.
I hug him back, "We'll be okay," I whisper.
I just wish that was true
