Work Text:
The colorful glow of the dim lights of the party would´ve been irritating enough for Wednesday to leave if it weren’t for the way it fell on Enid’s skin. The loud and obnoxious beat of the generic pop songs could’ve made her snap bitterly if not for how Enid swayed to the music effortlessly. Wednesday observed from the couch she sat on in the corner of the room, secluded from the rest of drunken students who might be feeling emboldened enough to interact with her. Her dark eyes, glinting underneath the room’s fairy lights, lingered on Enid’s smile, hearing the light echo of her laughter in the distance.
She watched as Yoko and Divina surrounded her, swaying along as they giggled and Divina’s arm brushed against the exposed skin of Enid’s waist below her cropped shirt and pink vest. She felt heat crawling up her neck and blamed it on the useless alcohol she’d been drinking, yet her eyes didn’t stray away until she felt a presence towering over her. She tensed up until she recognized the familiar pace of Bianca’s steps and exhaled imperceptibly.
“Hey” Bianca called gently and Wednesday’s eyes drifted to her as she sat down with a smile and a soft look in her eyes. Wednesday relaxed completely and Bianca's smile turned into a teasing smirk “Enjoying the view?”
The girl’s eyes landed on Enid and Wednesday scoffed, immediately glancing away and taking a big sip of the cup she’d been holding before speaking “I’m going to ignore what you’re insinuating”.
Bianca chuckled and shifted closer “Relax. It’s not like anyone’s going to hear us talking right now”:
“Clearly” Wednesday muttered as her eyes strayed back to the dancing girls.
Bianca looked at her with an arched brow and an amused smile “So what’s your plan?”
“I do not have one and, in all honesty, I think this is ridiculous”
Wednesday glanced down as she tried not to sound irritated, but she could physically feel Bianca rolling her eyes at her as she groaned and sat even closer, sitting straighter while leaning in.
“Oh, come on Wednesday, this crap again? Literally just go tell her you like her! You guys have been beating around the bush for so long”.
Wednesday tightened her jaw and kept her gaze down as she reflected on it. She considered just how long they had been stuck in the haze, in the void. Months? More than a year? Months worth of lingering glances, accidental touches, words that came dangerously close to burning disguised as friendly, and in Wednesday’s case a somber flame. Silences that felt too loaded to be casual. But then again, there was the rest. Not mentioning when the word choice had been slightly romantic, the abrupt distance after an accidental graze of hands, the way their eyes parted painfully once the eye contact had stretched for too long.
She gripped her cup before replying and when she did, she sounded almost defeated “You make it sound so… incredibly easy” she murmured.
Bianca's gaze and posture softened, offering a gentle smile. She observed the way Wednesday’s freckles framed her tired eyes and sighed, remembering how she’d taken the first step herself when Wednesday wouldn’t. She felt the urge to reach out but didn’t.
“Alright. It’s okay, I get it. It can be scary, no need to rush, just…” Wednesday finally looked at her “Don’t wait for too long okay?”
“Fine” Wednesday said almost gently, finally relaxing as well.
Enid had stopped dancing and was now looking at them while Yoko and Divina shared a brief embrace.
“I’ll go get us more drinks” Divina slid away while Yoko thanked her with a grin. Once divina had left, Enid squinted her eyes with an irritated tilt to her mouth.
“Aren’t they awfully close?” She asked Yoko as she nudged her, causing the vampire to turn and look at the girls sitting on the sofa, who were now chatting comfortably shoulder to shoulder. She shrugged and smirked again, slinging one arm around Enid’s shoulders, pulling her closer.
“Are you getting jealous, wolfie?” she teased, but Enid let out a growl and looked at her incredulously.
“Dude, are you seeing this?” Her voice went up a pitch “What if they get back together?”.
“Enid” Yoko immediately went from teasing to grounding when she noticed her fuming “I think you’re forgetting that Bianca is into Ajax”.
“Yeah, but what about Wednesday?” She gripped her cup as she glared at Yoko “What is she’s still into Bianca, huh? Then what?”
Yoko slowly lifted her arm to stand in front of her, a concerned expression on her face “Woah, okay there, calm down. No need to get paranoid now, alright?” Her eyes scanned Enid’s face behind her sunglasses, brows furrowing “I think you’ve had too many drinks for tonight”.
Enid pulled away with a sigh as her shoulders slumped “I’m fine” she glanced down, fidgeting with her cup.
Yoko watched her silently for a couple of seconds before shifting closer with a smile “Well… If you’re curious about them, why don’t you go and ask?”.
Enid looked up, eyes fixed on the couch again and the way Bianca’s shoulder brushed against Wednesday’s as she laughed and Wednesday’s lips tilted up slightly. “Hold my drink” she basically slammed her cup against Yoko’s chest, the vampire stunned for a second as Enid stormed towards the couch.
She then slowly smirked behind the cup “Nice” she whispered to herself.
Enid could hear a fragment of Wednesday’s and Bianca’s conversation as she approached “... but he’s cute” Bianca said before looking up and spotting Enid, letting out an amused huff “And here’s my cue” She stood with a smirk as Wednesday looked up at them both with a blank expression.
Enid inhaled sharply as Bianca brushed past her, leaning in to whisper “Have fun you two”.
Enid’s eyes widened slightly as she blushed and scoffed it off, casting one last annoyed look her way, but the intensity that had brought her to the couch faded as she caught Wednesday glancing up at her questioningly.
As she sat on the couch next to her, Bianca reached Yoko and Divina with an exasperated expression “I swear to god if nothing happens I’m gonna lose it”.
“Don’t worry” Yoko grinned as Divina giggled “Everything’s going smoothly”.
The silence that followed Enid sitting down seemed to drown out the party’s music and background noises, leaving them in a bubble of charged coexistence. Wednesday kept her gaze pointedly away as Enid stared at her for a long moment before finally relaxing and smiling.
“You look like you want to murder someone” she tried, turning to face her and leaning closer.
“Flaterry will get you nowhere” Wednesday said in a monotone voice before finally looking up at her “I’m assuming you got tired of dancing?”
Enid leaned sideways against the back of the couch with a grin “Nah, just wanted to hang out with you”.
“I see” Wednesday took a sip of her drink as she glanced at Enid’s relaxed posture.
“So…” Enid started hesitantly “What were you guys talking about?” She asked casually, as if the thought alone hadn’t almost made her half shift.
“Bianca and I?” Wednesday remembered the constant chatter about Ajax, whom she still found basic enough not to understand the appeal “Nothing of interest, why do you ask?”.
“Well, you two seemed pretty close and…” Enid felt an embarrassing blush coming up again “I don’t know, I just got a bit curious”.
Wednesday met her gaze with a knowing look and a hum “Seems to me like you’re being jealous, Sinclair” her voice was a low murmur.
“Oh yeah?” Enid relaxed, falling into their familiar unspoken back and forth “Maybe I am” She suddenly felt emboldened and leaned in, face hovering near the girl’s shoulder “What are you gonna do about it, Addams?”,
There was a moment of tense silence as Wednesday met her gaze and Enid could distinguish the blush beneath the freckles on her pale cheeks, even in the low light. Wednesday finally was the one to look away first, shifting slightly away as she cleared her throat “It appears you are drunk”.
“I’m only a little tipsy” Enid shrugged with a smile, resting her side against hers “You’re making a big deal out of it”.
She studied Wednesday’s profile as the girl kept her gaze away, the blush still present. Her eyes traveled from the way her silky black hair shone under the lights, how her eyes fell to the floor, then they followed the path of freckled down her nose towards the girl’s lips. Her blue eyes lingered for too long until Wednesday met her gaze again, catching her staring.
“Is there something wrong?” She asked casually, hiding behind her cup.
Enid simply smiled, taking a moment before turning sideways towards her “You look really hot right now, you know that?” She murmured huskily before Wednesday’s eyes widened.
“What?” Wednesday for once seemed incomposed, her expression losing the regular deadpan. Enid seemed to realize what she had just said, pulling slightly away with a flustered expression.
Wednesday stared at her with wide eyes as her heart leaped in her chest uncomfortably, making her lose her breath for a moment, which she found incredibly inconvenient. She took in a sharp breath, clenching her jaw and trying to recover any sort of intimidation even as her cheeks burned “Enid Sinclair, you are drunk and out of your mind, do you even hear yourself?”.
“Wends I’m fine, seriously” Enid muttered, glancing away as Wednesday looked away in irritation “Just friendly flirting”.
And there it was again. Wednesday sighed tiredly, wondering just how many more ‘friendly flirting’ excuses she could take before deciding to blow up Enid’s side of the room. She fell silent, glancing down as Enid observed her with a softened look.
“I, uh…” Enid smiled gently “I’m actually pretty glad you decided to come, you know”.
“Well, I never said I wasn’t going to”.
“I know, but like, I hadn’t expected you to actually be here. You hate things like this”.
Wednesday’s gaze lingered on Enid’s eyes before falling to her lips, gulping quietly before glancing away “It’s… tolerable. For now, at least”.
“Really?” Enid noticed her gaze and smirked again, leaning in “Huh. Is there a specific reason as to why, or…?”
“Enid” Wednesday warned, irritation rising again as she held back, tired of the push and pull “What are you trying to do?”.
But instead of recoiling, Enid leaned in closer “Actually, I kinda got bored of this party and…” she shifted closer, face hovering near Wednesday’s cheek “You look like you’re sick of it too, so” Wednesday could feel her warm breath against her skin, a faint hint of alcohol lingering as she whispered against her ear “Wanna get the hell out of here? Back to our dorm maybe?”.
Wednesday’s breath hitched, muscles tensing to prevent the shiver that threatened to travel down her spine while her usually cool skin suddenly felt as if she were being burned at the stake. It took her a moment to pull away and meet Enid’s gaze with an indecipherable expression.
Enid froze, her brain catching up with her mouth again as she pulled back suddenly with a panicked look, cheeks burning as well. ‘Shit, shit, why did I say that? Oh my god, she’s going to kill me, she’s really going to kill me’ she thought as she looked into her eyes, stuttering.
“I-Its okay if you don’t want to!” Now Wednesday’s expression actually looked murderous, her eyes almost twitching in anger “I- I just meant, I mean- Oh god, this is terrible” Enid ran a hand through her hair anxiously. She met her gaze again with an embarrassed expression "I'm sorry, that was way too much, I didn’t mean-”
Wednesday cut her off “You’re right. This is terrible” she said coldly and for a moment Enid’s whole spirit deflated, thinking she was done for as Wednesday stood abruptly and gripped her wrist on the way. But then “Let’s go” Wednesday looked down at her expectantly.
It took the blonde girl a second to react “Wait, wha- Okay” She stood as Wednesday practically pulled her harshly and began walking with a strong grip on her wrist.
In the distance, Divina gasped as she spotted them sliding away through the crowd. She tugged on Yoko’s and Divina’s arms, almost shaking them excitedly “Guys! Guys look!”
Bianca grinned amusedly as Yoko gave them an incredulous look “Holy crap, Wednesday’s dragging her out?”.
“Oh, sure she is” Bianca said with a proud expression before Yoko cheered.
“Fuck yes! It's happening!”
“Can’t wait to hear the news tomorrow” Divina chuckled amusedly.
The sounds of the party faded in the distance as Wednesday walked determinedly, not letting go of her grip as she walked straight towards their dorm, Enid stumbling along. Once they finally reached their room, Wednesday closed the door behind them, leaning back on it and giving Enid no chance to leave even if she had wanted to. The frantic rhythm of her heart suddenly became more noticeable as the silence completely wrapped around them, leaving only their breathing in the darkness of the room.
Wednesday’s grip finally relaxed, her hand sliding down to Enid’s as she looked up at her. Enid gulped softly fingers gently wrapping around Wednesday’s hand before she finally spoke “Uhm… I kinda had this whole thing planned in my head a bit differently, but I guess I just… couldn’t hold myself back anymore” She could feel Wednesday’s gaze relaxing in the way it only ever did around her “Sorry if it’s too sudden”.
“Are you a hundred percent sure you’re not drunk?” Wednesday asked in a serious voice and the slight dizziness Enid had felt faded completely. She shook her head.
“Yeah, I’m sure” she said gently, but hesitated at the look in Wednesday’s eyes “Look, Wednesday, if you don’t want to do this right now-”
“I want to” Wednesday reassured, almost panicked at the prospect of changing her mind right now. She squeezed Enid’s hand gently before relaxing her grip again “But I also want you to remember this later” She said quietly, only slightly embarrassed.
Enid blushed at the comment, heart fluttering before she smiled, fingers lacing with Wednesday’s delicately “I assure you I won't be forgetting this” she murmured gently “Not ever”.
Wednesday looked into her eyes, looking for any sign of hesitation as she gulped. She shifted closer, slowly raising her free hand until she cupped Enid’s jaw. Her dark eyes glinted under the moonlight as she murmured “You better not”.
She took a final step closer, letting go of her hand to cup her face with both of her hands, Enid’s eyes soft and expectant as Wednesday leaned in, noses brushing before their eyes fluttered closed. Wednesday finally pressed her lips against Enid’s, inhaling sharply as she took in the taste of her strawberry lipstick mixed with the lingering taste of alcohol. Enid’s lips were warm and soft and made her melt against her, caressing Enid’s jaw as the girl’s arms wrapped around her waist.
It was a gentle, slow press of lips that broke with a quiet sound, both of their eyes fluttering open as they caught their breath that mingled in between their lips, still hovering over each other’s mouth. Enid rested her forehead against hers and there was a long, tense moment of silence as her hands caressed Wednesday’s waist before the girl’s cold hands slid from her jaw to the collar of her shirt and yanked her in again into a bruising, almost desperate kiss. She let out a startled sound but wrapped her arms around her more firmly, pulling her flush against her as her fingers dug possessively around her waist and back.
Wednesday let out a quiet, desperate sound at the touch and as the kiss deepened, she slid a hand through her blonde hair, gripping it to keep her close. Enid kissed her back with the same intensity, feeling the way Wednesday’s grip relaxed into a gentle touch. She sighed against her mouth, lips parting before the kiss deepened again, her tongue eagerly tangling with Wednesday’s until they ran out of breath, panting against each other’s mouth.
When Enid pulled away, Wednesday let out a soft sound, almost like a disappointed whimper, and it ignited something within Enid, something that had waited for too long beneath the surface of their friendly pretense. She took hold of Wednesday’s waist and pushed her back against the door, keeping one hand on her hip as the other held her face. She trailed kisses from her cheek down to her jaw and neck, basking in the way Wednesday’s breath hitched and her knees seemed to weaken under the touch.
She pressed a kiss lower down her neck and nipped gently, eliciting a sigh from Wednesday “Enid” she whispered breathlessly as she tilted her neck, giving her room to explore as Enid’s warm breath lingered over her pulse point. She was about to lean in “Enid” Wednesday called again, managing to push her off slightly by her arm, causing her to snap back into her logical mind.
She pulled away as she caressed her cheek gently “Sorry” She caught her breath “Do you want me to stop?” She said, freeing Wednesday from being pinned between her and the door. Enid took a moment to look at Wednesday’s flushed cheeks, her disheveled hair and the way her hoodie was almost falling off her shoulders.
Wednesday took a deep breath, hearing her heartbeat pounding in her ears as she shook her head slightly and grabbed Enid’s hand that rested on her cheek “No” she simply said before sliding off and pulling Enid behind her, as she marched towards her bed.
Enid couldn’t react or think properly as Wednesday grabbed her shoulders and pushed her down to sit over the dark covers, let alone when she shifted closer and sat into her lap, straddling her before her arms wrapped around Enid’s shoulders.
“Oh. Okay. Yeah. This is happening, cool yeah” She allowed her hands to rest against Wednesday’s waist as the girl looked at her with a deadpan and pressed against her completely “Totally fine” She stuttered as her face burned, feeling the girl’s hips settle against hers.
“Shut up and kiss me” Wednesday said in annoyance and Enid finally huffed with a smirk.
“How demanding” Her hands slid from her waist to her back “You’re lucky I find your snarky attitude attractive”.
“Once again Sinclair, flattery will get you nowhere” Wednesday said even as her fingers twisted around the hair near Enid’s neck.
“Sorry to break it to you miss Addams, but the evidence suggests otherwise” she said cockily.
Wednesday found her attitude infuriating. It only made her want to kiss her again. Her lips tilted up as she grabbed a fistful of her hair, gripped her jaw with the other hand and kissed her fiercely, freely, claiming something that had already been hers after months of waiting.
She wasn’t known to be a particularly patient person. And in that moment, she was lost so completely she might as well have been over the moon.
