Chapter Text
I’m starting a longer AU fic yayyyy!! This is a high school AU fic, where just all the hadestown characters are in high school (duh) just some background first
Orpheus: Junior, straight A’s, in the schools band, president of the schools music club, kinda a loser but not bullied or anything. Has genuinely one friend. Super shy and timid but can be bold at times. Very blunt also.
Eurydice: Senior, A’s and B’s even though she’s super smart she hates doing homework.
Club president of the art club, draws all posters and murals for the school. Actually loves to sing but doesn’t do it a a lot. Not a loser, not popular. Only has like 2 friends. Has actually been emancipated from her parents.
Persephone: History teacher for the juniors and seniors, advisor for the music club. The favorite teacher of like every student. Huge mentor for Eurydice.
Hades: Principal. Married to Persephone but they both don’t like to talk about it. Super strict, genuinely authoritarian. Has his favorite students. Mainly both Orpheus and Eurydice.
Hermes: the social worker, who also happens to be Orpheus’ uncle who has custody of him. Stoic but it’s very clear that he cares. Super well liked among the students. Dosent give Orpheus special treatment even though they’re related.
So I added a couple of outside characters from other Greek mythos and added them into this AU so here they are!! This is still based off of hadestown not Greek mythology but I needed more characters.
Ariadne: Eurydice’s childhood best friend. Super popular but still hangs out the most with Eurydice. In the art club for Eurydice but is also vice captain of the cheer team. Super friendly and kind.
Penelope: Eurydice’s other best friend, who she met in 9th grade. Huge Theater kid. Kinda snarky but in a loving way. Dating Odysseus.
Odysseus: Orpheus’ singular friend since 6th grade. Jock. Kinda started ignoring Orpheus junior year. Dating Penelope.
Okay here we go!!

Orpheus’ day went like every other one before it. He woke up at 7, got dressed, ate the same eggs on toast that he does every morning, gets driven to school by Hermes, goes to his classes and makes his way to music club that he has every Monday Wednesday and Friday.
On his way to the music room on the fourth floor, he’s stopped in his tracks by the sound of a voice. A beautiful angelic one. Her voice is so smooth and gorgeous to hear. He can’t help but follow the sound. It leads him to the hallway in Wing B where he sees possibly the most stunning girl he’d ever and will ever see, rummaging through her locker.
She has glowy brown skin with freckles all over her arms and legs, big brown doe eyes that hit the light from the window above the lockers so well. She has black goddess braids that run down her about her waist that are up in a high ponytail with two hanging down. She’s wearing black chunky headphones that appear to have been drawn on with paint markers, stars and moons and doodles or all colors and sizes scattered around it. She’s wearing a dark wash denim jacket and a black casual dress, with black tights underneath.
She's presumably singing along to whatever’s playing in those headphones. It’s a tune Orpheus can’t put his finger on, but it’s definitely one he knows. He doesn't realize it himself but he’s very clearly staring at her. He doesn’t snap out of this trance he’s in until he hears.
“Hey. hey. Hey!!” She’s now directly in front of him looking into his eyes, with one suspicious eyebrow raised.
He gulps.
“Hi!” He managed to blurt out.
“What were you-“
“You’re really pretty.” He says, not actually meaning to cut her off.
She’s sort of taken aback by this. She’d never considered herself unattractive by any means but she’s never had anyone come up to her and say she’s pretty like that before. Especially not someone like this. She looks him up and down and smiles a little bit.
He’s really pretty for a boy. He has huge brown eyes, kinda like hers in a way. He’s super pale and a little bit taller than her but it can’t be by more of an inch. His hair is dark brown and kinda scruffy but in a really endearing way and the way he’s staring at her like he’s never seen another girl before, sends a wave of butterflies through her stomach.
“Thanks. I didn’t catch your name.” She says, the smirk stagnant on her face.
“Orpheus.”
“You got a last name, Orpheus?”
“Teresi.”
She’s nods and puts an arm out.
“Eurydice.” He takes her hand and shakes it firmly. His hand is sort of moist and sweaty. It’s very calloused, but also smooth? She doesn't really underhand how it’s both of those things at the same time
Suddenly they hear a loud sigh come from the nearby stairwell.
“Orpheus! There you are, you’re 10 minutes late to music club. Let’s go now please. Oh hi Eurydice honey.” Ms. Persephone says, waving to Eurydice while beckoning to Orpheus.
He turns around to Eurydice and grabs her arm.
“What the fuck are you doing?” She says, while also not pulling her arm away.
He scribbles his number on her arm and smiles an awkward smile while running up the stairs to follow behind the teacher. Eurydice stares at where he was standing, dumbfounded. After a second she smiled a little bit. She had a feeling there was something special about this weird kid.
