Chapter 1: Cold Milan nights

Chapter Text

Lunette stepped out of the airplane, the cold Milan air hitting her as she grabbed her bag.

Behind her Amber and Alysa stepped out shivering at the cold breeze.

Although they were inside the tunnel it was still cold as the air had somehow made its way through.

As they made their way out of the airport. This was her first time traveling without her parents and it was going mediocre at best.

Amber caught up with Lunette as they made their way to the Uber. “What do you think, Luna? Like your first international competition?” She asked.

“It's alright, I'm just a bit nervous.” She buckled my seat as the car started to move.

Alysa had her headphones in, probably vibing to PinkPantheress or Laufey. We sat in silence for the rest of the ride as Amber scrolled on her phone. Lunette sent a locket to her friends. Arrived in Milannnn! She then put on her headphones and turned on her favorite band.

Ilia, and the others were in the cars behind us and she could just imagine the chaos back there. As the car pulled up they stepped out and took in the views around them. The village had a nice setup with the Olympic logo everywhere.

After an exhausting 30 minutes of running around to find her dorm she finally flopped onto the bed tired from the long flight.

It now hit her just how far away from home she was. From her parents, from her sister, from the US. She turned around to face the ceiling. She opened her phone to call her mom.

“Mom?”

“Luna! Are you in the village, is everything alright?” Her mother’s frantic voice cut through the silence.

“Yes everything’s good Amber helped me get my stuff up and I’m unpacking right now”

“Oh, good, good, thank goodness,” Lunette heard a sigh of relief from the other end.

“Well you get back to unpacking and I’ll call you later, make sure you drink water, practice, and do your stretches before the short program ok?” Her mother reminded her.

“Yeah, yeah I know,” Lunette rolled her eyes.

BEEP

Lunette opened Tiktok just to be bombarded with videos about her.

12 year old prodigy Lunette Vierno goes to the Olympics!!!

Lunette Vierno makes it to team USA at just 12!!!

Figure skater Lunette Vierno competes at the Olympics at the age of 12!!!

Lunette was tired of being talked about like a trophy but that's what the internet does. She kept scrolling and checked her inbox, 99+

Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Lunette opened the door, there was Amber and Alysa.

“They want us down to do an interview in 15 minutes,” Alysa said.

“Bro I was bed rottinggggg” Lunette stumbled into the corridor.

“Well too bad! We have to do an interview and you're probably gonna be asked the most questions,” Amber playfully scolded her.

“Why me? What’s so interesting about me?” Lunette asked.

To this Amber and Alysa shared a bewildered look of disbelief but they chose not to reply.

Lunette however, didn’t seem to notice and sent another locket to her friends this time with her posing with Amber and Alysa.

During the interview Amber’s prediction had been right and they did ask Lunette multiple questions regarding her young age.

After the interview they were walking around the village when Amber got a call. Lunette and Alysa looked up with curiosity as Amber grabbed her phone.

“Hello?”

“Oh hey! No we’re free we can come over right now”

Lunette looked at Alysa.

“Free for what?” She asked.

“Who knows?” Alysa shrugged.

Amber hung the phone and turned to them.

“What is it? Who was that?” Lunette asked.

“It’s the hockey team they want us over for a sleepover with the canada hockey team!” Amber exclaimed.

“Ew the men?” Alysa made a disgusted face.

“No! Of course not!” Amber smacked her forehead.

“It’s my first sleepover with professional athletes!” Lunette said.

They rushed back to the dorms and changed into their pajamas and headed over to the hockey section.

Alysa knocked on the door and the door creaked open.

There stood Zoe Boyd in a white tank and boxers. Her face lit up when she saw the three girls standing with pillows and snacks in their arms.

“There you are!” Zoe ushered them in shutting the door behind them.

There, gathered in the common room was the entirety of the US hockey team and the Canada hockey team.

“So this is the little prodigy huh?” Laura asked as Lunette sat down.

“Sure is,” Amber said.

As they all settled down and got comfy Laila broke the silence.

“So, Lunette any interesting things at school?” she asked.

“Oh yeah for sure my school's probably as crazy as it can get!” Lunette replied.

“Yeah right” Caroline said.

“Well somebody was shot and killed, our classroom got infested with roaches, we had to call the police because someone had a mental episode and tried to commit, and my friend got shot in the foot 3 months ago” Lunette hadn’t even finished speaking when the room fell silent. (This all happened to me btw)

Everybody turned to look at Lunette.

“What?” She asked.

“I-I just wasn’t expecting that,” Laura said with a stunned look on her face.

“Well I guess that’s what’s been happening around my school” Lunette shrugged.

“Oh! And one more thing a couple people got caught vaping in the bathroom” she added.

Everyone looked around as they digested that information.

“Do you vape?” Hilary asked.

“Why the fuck would you ask her that?” Aerin shoved Hilary.

“No of course not! I only smoke once in a while,” Lunette said.

The room fell silent once again.

“Is this what kids do these days?” Marie asked.

“Yeah I guess so,” Lunette’s hands flew up to her mouth in shock. She forgot she still had access to her Scottish accent.

“Is that a Scottish accent?” Catherine asked.

“Are you Scottish?” Daryl asked.

“Yeah both my parents are Scottish and I was born in Scotland but we moved when I was one.” Lunette sighed.

“That’s so cool!” Laila said.

As the girls talked Lunette got a ping on her phone.

She smiled, just the person she wanted to talk to.

She sat in a separate corner texting back and forth.

It must have been a while when she heard Amber yelling her name.

“Luna! You’ve been smiling at that phone for an hour!” She said,

“Who could you possibly be texting?” Alysa asked.

“Ooh somebody’s got a crush!” Zoe said scooching closer to get a look at her phone.

“I do not!” Lunette said, her face getting hot.

She turned the phone away from Zoe before she could see anything.

Lunette did in fact have a crush on this girl but why did it matter to them?

It was just a crush.

“She’s just a friend!” Lunette said scooching farther away from Zoe.

“SHE?!” Zoe said.

“Ok fine yes I do have a crush so what?” Lunette sighed.

“You’re gay?!?” Zoe exclaimed, a smile forming on her face.

“Zoe, leave the poor kid alone,” Megan said.

“Yeah I’m gay I guess,” Lunette said.

“I mean I do have a crush on a girl,” Lunette was dying inside.

Why was Zoe being so nosy? This was mortifying.

In front of the entire Canadian, and USA hockey team too!

Zoe kept asking questions and invited her onto her podcast but she politely declined.

Finally they changed topics and started to talk about the opening ceremony in two days.

They continued talking for about another hour until Amber, Alysa and her called it a night and started to gather their things.

They had made plans to go out for dinner the next day.

As Lunette lay in bed she got a text from someone.

Lucia Medova.

Great! What did she want now? Lunette thought to herself.

Lucia was a regular client and she wanted more cocaine.

Lunette of course didn’t run this drug business but her uncle did and when he got too busy people went to her since she was the only one available.

Lunette hated it but her uncle was a dangerous man and she didn’t want to get into any trouble with him.

She needed about 15 kilos this time and she needed it in Ottawa by Friday.

Lunette would make some calls and have it all prepared and shipped before Thursday.

She put the phone down as her eyes drifted shut.
