Stars. How many times you stop to look at them, just look and wonder. How old are they? Are they really big or tiny? Are they even alive? The answer is probably never. Or really rarely. Yoongi tho, he's different. For him, stars are like an escape. A small paradise, the only concrete thing in his life. His life is just a huge mess that he can't figure out. He's a mess, lost in the world without a compass, light or hope. All he does is just exist. It's not even living.
Now he doesn't have a heart wrenching story of why he feels the way he does, it just happened. No big trauma or life changing experience. He just woke up one day and it didn't feel right. It never felt right anymore. He didn't know who he was, why was he even breathing, did he even matter to anyone or was it just some obligation that everyone around him felt cause of how society planted that in their heads. A messed up concept of what is right and what it wrong. And all this had no explanation, just like anything else in this world. That was until one day when he was sitting near the Han River eating his lunch. A guy, just a common guy, out of nowhere sat next to him and changed his entire life. Just as unexpected as a shooting star.
Jeon Jungkook. That was his name. Tall, 19 year old kid with eyes bigger than the stars with just as much shine in them. Dark hair like the night skyline and a smile that can brighten your day better than the sun itself. After their first encounter they met again. And again. And again…
Yoongi didn't even realize how he fallen in love with the little miracle, but when he did it felt liberating. First time in his life he felt like he belonged somewhere. It felt like finding a home. So many years of lost wandering and finally, peace. He didn't expect Jungkook to love him back, how could he? Jungkook was everything that Yoongi wasn't. Too good for him. Too perfect… People like him don't fall in love with people like Yoongi. How wrong was his. Jungkook fell harder than him, cause if for Yoongi Jungkook was his home and peace for Jungkook he was the answer. The answer of why he was so angry at world for throwing him into the world with no map or any guideline of what do next. He was so scared of being alone in this big world, but when he met Yoongi, he understood. The world is a big place, but it's locked in Yoongi. He felt like nothing can stop him, that he was fearless when he had that small man in his embrace and that was truly a wonderful feeling.
They fought but who doesn't right? Yoongi wasn't confident that Jungkook would stay, cause no one does. Jungkook didn't understand why Yoongi didn't trust him. But in the end it they always made up. Stars collide and make a one big supernova. That was what they were. Two lost stars that found each other in the big universe and created something big, powerful, lasting and bright.
One year in and during their anniversary Jungkook says that he wants to get something permanent, like a promise. He wanted to show exactly how much he loved Yoongi. How much he meant for him, how much he cared and that he is Jungkook’s family now. He did get something permanent. A small moon under his heart.
When Yoongi saw it, he cried. He cried so much. It was probably the happiest he ever felt. When they were lying late at night looking at the ceiling Yoongi turned to Jungkook and said
“Jungkook, have you ever heard the saying that nothing lasts forever?”
“Mmm”
“That's bullshit. We, we'll last forever.”
“We'll be like stars?”
“Yes. We'll be like all the stars combined”
And they did. Almost….
Late night. Long shift at work and a call saying that he'll be home in 15 minutes. A sweet goodbye. A wish to sleep tight and one last I love you. 10 seconds left on the crosswalk. A drunk driver. Bright lights…..
I guess nothing last forever and the stars are no exception.
