"Dammit. That's a big swarm..." Rui muttered under his breath, pulling out his gun.
Tsukasa, beside him, nodded. "I don't know if we can find anything in this..." He picked up a rock, throwing it in the direction of the zombies. The mindless horde went in the direction the rock had fallen.
Rui stood up, grabbing Tsukasa's hand and running into the nearby store. "I hope we can find something."
"We have enough food to last us," Tsukasa said as he looked around the abandoned store. "I mean, we set up that garden. And the fish tank."
"We still need medical supplies. The only thing we didn't think to grab." Rui sighed. The shelves were completely empty. "Looks like it's already been raided. Let's go."
"What a waste of time." Tsukasa held a little tighter onto Rui's hand. "I hope a cure is found soon."
"Me as well." Rui lead Tsukasa back out of the store. "Or at least a way to slow the spread."
The two began to walk back to their bunker.
Rui could feel the cold air on the back of his neck. It put him even more on edge. "...Tsukasa. You better not get infected."
"Wasn't planning on it." Tsukasa looked up at his boyfriend. "Why are you saying--oh."
He noticed Rui was looking down at the hand that held a gun. The same gun he had to shoot Nene with. "You won't have to kill me. I promise."
"You don't know that." Rui let go of Tsukasa's hand, but then wrapped his arm around the blonde's waist, pulling him close. "Let's hurry."
They began to ran.
Rui heard the sounds of footsteps and groans behind them. He ran faster, quickly scooping Tsukasa into his arms, carrying him bridal style. The zombies were shockingly fast. "Shit. Shit shit shit-"
Tsukasa's eyes went to Rui's feet. A shoelace untied. "Rui! Your sho--GAH!"
Rui tripped, him and Tsukasa tumbling onto the hard, rocky ground. Tsukasa rolled a foot or so away.
Rui scrambled onto his feet. He heard the horde grow closer. He slid over to Tsukasa, almost falling again. "TSUKASA!"
He grabbed Tsukasa's arm just as a zombie reached them, teeth sinking into the small part of his ankle that had been exposed when Rui dropped him.
Rui shot at the zombie, aiming for the neck. Once he was sure it was distracted, he picked Tsukasa back up. "Tsukasa! Are you conscious? Please tell me you can hear me. Please."
Tsukasa held a shaky thumbs up. "Y-Yeah...I'll be fine..." He inhaled sharply, the pain from the bite shooting up his leg. "Will we get there in time...to be able to amputate?"
"We better!" Rui sprinted as fast as his legs would carry him. He didn't speak on the rest of the way back to base. If he did, he would have cried.
Finally, he managed to arrive back into base.
"Emu! Tsukasa got bit!" Rui laid Tsukasa on the couch. "Grab me an axe! I think there might still be time!"
Emu went into the weapon supply room, and came out with an axe. "Tsukasa..."
Rui didn't take the axe. He instead lifted up Tsukasa's shirt. If it hadn't spread too far up, maybe it would be possible to cut off the infected limb.
"Oh...fuck..." The purple had already reached Tsukasa's stomach.
Tears streamed down Tsukasa's face. "...Rui...?"
Rui slowly grabbed his gun, and pointed it at his boyfriend's head. "...I'm so sorry..."
The trigger pulled. The gunshot echoed throughout the base.
"I love you."
