The sun beamed down on Auradon Prep’s gardens. Students crowded the many fields the campus had to offer, lounging on vibrant picnic blankets. Summer was in full swing in Auradon, with temperatures expected to climb as the week went by. Bottles of sunscreen were tossed around, as everybody prepared to spend the day lounging in the sun and getting a tan.
Everybody except Red.
Red had refused the idea when Hazel had brought it up yesterday. The idea of sitting in scorching heat, and being surrounded by her peers whilst sweating profusely was not something she wanted in her books for a Monday morning. Red had never experienced an Auradon summer, as Wonderland kept the spring season all-year round, so when she had found herself having small little nosebleeds after going outside into the intense heat, laying with the window open or just walking around in the hallways. She thought nothing much of them, as Auradon had many things she didn’t understand and just assumed this was one of them. Luis had always told Red about the beautiful summers he had back home and in Auradon to attempt to ease her discomfort.

Even with Luis’ coaxing, Red found herself being dragged onto a picnic blanket by him and Hazel at 9 o’clock on a Monday morning. She begrudgingly sat down, glaring at the pair of them. Luis smirked back at her and nudged her, prompting her to move closer.
“Worst day ever.” Red groaned, picking at the wildflowers in the grass before shuffling over.
“A bit of sun wouldn’t kill ya Red, seems Biceps’ whining is really rubbing off on you.” Hazel retorted, shoving Luis’ shoulder.
“Jeez, can’t I win with anyone today!” Luis said with exaggerated innocence, before laughing into Red’s shoulder.
For a while, everything seemed to be going smoothly. Chloe and Max had arrived shortly after, and the group had began gossiping and chatting like usual. Hazel and Max had somehow ended up arm-wrestling within five minutes of his arrival. Chloe organized the food onto baby blue paper plates, smiling to herself and adding to the conversation occasionally as she went along. Red leaned against Luis’ shoulder, exhaling dramatically as sweat beaded on her forehead. She didn’t understand how everyone else coped in this blistering heat, nevermind how people could run about playing tourney. Luis’ fingers absentmindedly ran through her long, wavy hair as he talked enthusiastically about the festivities he had in the summer back home. His methodical stroking didn’t bring the usual comfort though, as it seemed to make her feel even hotter.
Red shifted closer to Luis and moved to allow her hair to cascade down her face, covering her completely. For a moment, she felt cooler. That was until she felt a dripping on the top of her lip.
She shrugged it off, assuming it was her sweat finally stopping. She felt Luis’ shift and make a noise, so she opened her eyes to a crimson patch on his cadmium jacket. Red pulled away so quick she almost lost her balance.
“Spades, I’m so sor- I didn’t realise!” she blurted out, staring at his jacket in shock.
Luis quickly looked over, unaware. His eyes widened once he saw Red’s crimson stained face. He quickly snatched one of the napkins by the paper plates and covered her nose.
“Oh my gods, Red..” he laughed, tilting her head with her chin.
Chloe looked up and was about to make a quip at Luis for snatching her napkins, but saw the state of Red’s face first.
“Uhh! Red why are you bleeding..?” Chloe asked uncertainly, looking between the pair.
Luis kept pressure on Red’s nose whilst he flexed his free arm, showing off his muscles, “Me, obviously.” he joked.
Chloe and Hazel gagged, looking away before laughing.
“Absolutely gross.” Hazel mutters.
After a few more minutes, Red had finally stopped bleeding. She wiped her face with a makeup wipe Chloe had gave her. Luis tossed the napkins in the nearby bin before resuming his position next to red, snaking an arm around her shoulders.
“Thank you, didn’t think I’d be bleeding on you today, I’m not usually this gross.” Red said sheepishly.
“Don’t worry Hearts, It’ll come out. It;s one way to mark territory anyways..” he said with a teasing grin.
“LUIS!” she scolded, flustered.
