Rainbow Festival (Seasonal Event Questline)

Summary:

Quest dialogue and steps for a hypothetical "Rainbow Festival" seasonal event in Final Fantasy XIV, mimicking the real world's Pride Month events. (I have not listed pairings because there are too many with tiny cameos and it would clog the tags.)

Notes:

I may or may not update this on a yearly basis. I may not. It took me like 3 years and doing 2026's rarepair week to even get this one up. I tried to include as many examples of canon queer rep as I could, along with a few personal indulgences, and if I do another I can work in even more.

Chapter 1: Rainbow Festival 2026 - All the Colors

Chapter Text

Seasonal Event Quest:

Quest Title: All the Colors

Quest giver: Many-Hued Hyur (Highlander Hyur Female with rainbow hairpin/corsage and flamboyant garb)

Location: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 11.5, Y 13.9)

Many-Hued Hyur: Welcome to the Rainbow Festival, friend! What's a Rainbow Festival? Er…well, it came to me in a dream. [If Shadowbringers completed: "a dream of a city of blue crystal, once afflicted by searing light and now awash in colors"] In that dream, the people were celebrating their great diversity by hanging rainbow banners and painting themselves in many colors. Given that Limsa Lominsa's the great port of Eorzea, I figured this would be the best place to hold such a festival. It's only our first year, though, so we're having trouble getting momentum. If you wouldn't mind, could you hand out these rainbow streamers to folks, maybe drum up a bit of excitement?

[Quest Objective: Give out 3 rainbow streamers to people near the plaza.]

Speak with Beatin:

Beatin: Hm…I have the basic structure for the piece composed, but something feels like it's missing…

[Give Streamer]

Beatin: Ah! The beautiful arc of the ribbons, the spread of colors reaching out like the elegant branches of a willow—yes, I feel inspiration coming to me! I must tell Gairhard about this.

Speak with Nervous Youth:

Nervous Youth: The Statuesque Starlets are so glamourous. I wish I had the courage to perform like that."(The Statuesque Starlets are a group of men in Songbird style outfits and thick makeup, standing nearby. It's implied they're drag queens.)

[Give Streamer]

Nervous Youth: Oh! Holding this streamer…I feel as if I'm as graceful and impassioned as they are!

Speak with Jandelaine:

Jandelaine: A gentleman's first haircut as a gentleman is such a momentous occasion…I must achieve perfection! But how…?

[Give Streamer]

Jandelaine: Fascinating…a riot of many colors, bending to the gentle breeze but refusing to succumb fully to it, bright and loud and proud…it all becomes clear before my eyes! Where once were dull long locks devoid of sincerity, a sharp and vivacious undercut will emerge in a blaze of rainbow hues!

Return to Many-Hued Hyur:

Many-Hued Hyur: Thank you! Here's your very own streamer, as a reward for your hard work. Never stop being proud of who you are and how far you've come - and how many you were able to inspire along the way.

[Quest Reward: Ballroom Etiquette - Rainbow Flourish]

Follow-Up Quest:

Quest Title: Sharing the Rainbow

Quest giver: Many-Hued Hyur

Location: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 11.5, Y 13.9)

Many-Hued Hyur: We've got more streamers to hand out, if you're free. Who do you want to talk to?

[Options available depend on MSQ progression]

  • A proud leader of a nation of pirates
  • A proud patriarch of an Ishgardian High House
  • A proud pair of Xaela khatun
  • A proud Oracle of Light
  • A proud set of visitors from the moon
  • A proud Dawnservant of Tural

System Dialogue: As you look around the plaza, you see…

  • Merlwyb appears, wearing her usual austere outfit - but is that a rainbow flower in her hair? She discusses how the diverse pirate crews of La Noscea unite to make a powerful, if chaotic nation, and how proud she is to lead it. She also says that in the past their country's not been as accepting as it could be to certain other demographics, a fact she hopes to change as they sail forward into the future, with a rainbow of flags flying from the Good Ship Vylbrand's topmast.

  • (If Heavensward Completed) Edmont appears, wearing the South Seas shirt and slacks dyed magenta, purple, and blue. He says he's been traveling to get material for his next book and has been meeting so many fascinating new people, with different identities and experiences. He briefly reminsces about Haurchefant's love for all people regardless of their differences, and how his example has led Edmont to also express that same love towards all.

  • (If Stormblood Completed) Sadu appears, discussing the Dotharl belief in reincarnation. In every life she may be the same person but her experiences are new and diverse - in her last few lives she was a man, and now she has been born as a woman, and has found fascinating new things to explore because of it. As she says this she looks at Cirina, who blushes. Sadu has a pink flower to compliment her blue attire and white hair, while Cirina's flower is blue for her pink and white attire.

  • (If Shadowbringers Completed) "My branch! I have a special message for you!" A pixie-made 'hologram' of Ryne wearing a pink and orange outfit appears to talk about how they invented the Rainbow Festival at the Crystarium to celebrate the beautiful diversity of its people, splitting the sterile Light of the Flood into a medley of colors like a prism. She's so delighted to hear that the festival's made its way to Eorzea too, and hopes Thancred and his friends are enjoying it as well. Ryne ends by saying she needs to go, someone is waiting for her with coffee biscuits.

  • (If Endwalker completed) Urianger appears with several Loporrits. He has a dark purple flower in his hair and a white wrist corsage, complimenting his black and gold outfit, while the Loporrit outfits are dyed in lavender/white/green and black/grey/white/green color schemes. The Loporrits talk about how Urianger has been helping them understand more about the people of Etheirys - about men, and women, and everything in between! Urianger agrees, commenting about what an amazing spectrum of people exist in this world.

  • (If Dawntrail completed) Wuk Lamat is here, and her axe is dyed in rainbow colors. She says she's been told that Tulliyollal is one of the most diverse cities in the world, so this would be a great celebration to hold there as well. She can't think of any greater joy than to take pride in your unique identity and help others embrace that in themselves. "I should tell Sphene about this, too. Solution 9 is so colorful, she—I mean, her people might enjoy this as well!"

Optional NPC Dialogue

(Note: These NPCs are not labeled or named, but are standing around the general event area, with dialogue that pops up when you approach. They appear based on what questlines the player has completed.)

The two partnered adventurers from Wanderer's Palace (Hard), accompanied by a Scholar Tonberry: "It's nice to be out in public without people treating us different, ain't it?" "Ain't that the truth, love. Usually we'd be stared at if we were seen in the streets leading a Tonberry around."

Daidukul and several other Buduga: "We seem to have our pick of powerful, muscular warriors here…and all of them seem quite eager to meet with us." "We should have come to Eorzea sooner!" "I wonder if Hien is here too…"

Varshahn with Azdaja on his shoulder: "What beautiful decorations. This reminds me of how we use gulal for festivals back in Radz at Han. I'm so glad my sibling and I can see it."

Martyn Goodfellow: "Blue may be my favorite color, but that don't mean I can't appreciate the other hues! We blue mages can do everything, after all."

Cid and Nero: "No greater 'freedom through technology' than the freedom to be yourself, hm?" "You're such a sap, Garlond." (Alpha and Omega are next to them. Alpha is doing the 'maracas dance' he does when you find him in Tural, but with the rainbow streamers instead, and Omega has a streamer attached to its chassis.)

Sanson and Guydelot: (Seen talking to one of the Statuesque Starlets. Guydelot is strumming his harp, while Sanson is huffy and implied to be jealous.) "I could compose you a striking melody for your next performance." "We don't have time for this, Guydelot."

Red Hot and Deep Blue: (Both are wearing rainbow leis, and doing /lookout over the balcony down to the water.) "Look at those gnarly waves, bro!" "The colors may be intense, but that surf is even intenser!"

Spina (in a rainbow version of the Cosmosuit): "My sweetheart adores the colorful glass I got her in Phaenna. I bet she'd love something from this festival too."
