Work Text:

Pitt’s football team was alright… average at best.. and though it was a father’s duty to attend their kids game every week… Robby was growing tired of it.

The countless losses, his son getting benched for 75% of the game, it was not really worth driving into the college town , fighting for parking, and sitting on hard, uncomfortable steel benches.

and Robby would probably have stopped attending by now, apologizing to his son that he has matters to attend at the hospital that he can’t get out of - that they’re understaffed and need him desperately… if it weren’t for that one cheerleader…

it’s typical to see male cheerleaders as the big strong arms that lift up the ladies, but this boy was different. this boy was just as feminine as the rest, having the look of innocence that makes older men feral. short blonde hair that curled at the end, wore the same crop top uniform and short shorts the other cheerleaders wore (and damn did they hug his ass), rosey pink cheeks that flustered after a routine - all things that Robby took notice of when his kid wasn’t on the field.

And even when his son WAS playing - Robby found his eyes wandering from the game to the sidelines, watching the mannerisms of the boy, watching how he sipped his water bottle during breaks, mesmerized by his movements.

it almost felt… wrong. Or maybe it was wrong. This kid was no older than 22… 24 maybe if he was in a grad program. But Robby couldn’t help the way the boys movements on the field after a touchdown or during momentum building warmed his core. There were a few occasions that he had to adjust his shorts even.

He kept his attraction to the same gender secret at work. Nobody needed to be in his business like that - and anyways who cares? he doesn’t pester anyone else about who they’re attracted to, so nobody pesters him.

And while Robby has used Grindr a few times to satisfy his morning wood or late night thoughts - the selections were drying up. nobody was checking the boxes for him.

He mentally uses that as an excuse to stare at the boy, just letting fantasy take over in moments of boredom. thinking about pinning that cheerleader against a wall, having him stick up his perky ass and taking him how he wants.

If only the cheerleader could read his thoughts.

——

It was a Friday night in August, and while Robby’s son had a game tonight, Robby offered to cover a shift - he’d rather be working than sitting around.

The night was slow, surprisingly. Nothing crazy - though the entire staff knew better than to try and jinx it. They were able to take more time with patients, getting them comfortable, running tests, completing their charts.

Robby was in his own world, hoping around from room to room to give advice and lend a hand. He wasn’t all there mentally, but he didn’t need to be, obviously he was that good.

It wasn’t until a patient came back in a wheelchair, sweaty and pink in the face, that he perked up. He recognized the boy immediately. The cheerleader, still in his uniform.

Robby watched him get wheeled back and into a room, slowly lurking towards the area when the nurse left. The boy looked flustered, fiddling with the end of his shorts until Robby stepped in.

“Good Evening… get a little lost?” Robby joked while pointing towards the boys uniform that read “PITT” across the top.

“Oh I uhm, guess so…” the boy chuckled, looking up from his lap and offering a sheepish smile.

Robby nodded and pulled up a chair, deciding the patient was going to be his now…

“I’m Dr. Robby, mind telling me what’s going on?” He scooted the chair forward, putting on gloves and leaning over with his elbows on his knees.

“Dennis” the boy replied before clearing his throat and gesturing towards his ankle, “sprained I think…” he frowned. his ankle had begun to bruise, making him wince when he tried to move it.

Robby nodded and let out a hum. “Do you mind if I take a look?” Dennis shook his head. He sat back, letting Robby gently inspect the boys ankle, his fingers grazing the boys skin.

After some quiet Dennis spoke up, “I uhm feel like you look familiar…?” He paused and tilted his head, “where would I know you from”

Robby chuckled to himself. “the games,” He replied, keeping his eyes on the boys foot, “my sons on the football team”.

Dennis smiled a little in response, “ohhh yeah! that makes sense” he nodded and watched as Robby crossed the room to the computer.

“I’m going to order an X-ray for your ankle, you okay with staying for a little while?” He spoke towards the screen, knowing the boy didn’t have a choice but gave him the illusion of one.

Dennis sighed and laughed a little, a wave of confidence rushing to his head. “Not like they’ll let me back onto the field… but no i don’t mind… especially not if you’re my doctor…”

Robby raised an eyebrow towards the boy, offering a small smirk before stepping back from the computer. “Alright well, I’ll see what I can do to get you back in pristine cheerleading shape…”

Robby gave Dennis a nod and left as other nurses came in, letting the rush he felt from his comment fill his head.

——-

It wasn’t until a month and a half later that the two saw each other again. Robby agreed to pick his son up after his game, meaning he had to attend.

The cheerleader boy who he now knew the name of was back in, his ankle recovered quickly since he followed the doctor’s instructions to a T.

Robby sat on the bleachers, being more considerate of where his eyes roamed. When they trailed to the boy, he felt a pair of eyes staring back. The boy offered a small smile and a wink, going on with the routine as planned.

This caught Robby off guard, his cheeks heating up a little as he moved his eyes directly back to the game, searching for his son’s number. It was hard to concentrate for the rest of the 4th quarter, and his pants felt tighter.

Robby waited in the parking lot for his son, smoking a cigarette and watching the other cars pull out and leave. He knew it would take his kid a minute, locker room business and all, so he let himself take longer drags.

As Robby got to the end of his cigarette, he threw it down, stepping on the butt with his shoe to put it out. As he looked up, he saw the cheerleader boy with his bag slung over his shoulder walking towards him.

Robby was sure he was probably heading towards his car, but the boy waved as he got closer and gave a small smile.

“I just wanted to thank you, for your help with my ankle…” Dennis spoke up , standing in front of Robby. He felt his nerves really kick in being this close.

“Not a problem kid.” Robby nodded, amused by how the boy seemed to become flustered.

“Uhm…” Dennis struggled to find something to say, “your son did good out there, #9 right?”

Robby chuckled, “yeah, thanks, ill let him know”

“Oh no don’t!” Dennis laughed sheepishly, “it’ll be weird… the team is a bit weird about a boy cheerleader… he’ll think im into him…” he reached up to rub the back of his neck.

Robby was amused by the boys mannerisms, raising an eyebrow as he stepped closer to the younger one. “Is that so…?” He caught a whiff of the boys body spray- cherry, fitting. Robby felt bold, reading Dennis’ expression. He didn’t flinch when he got closer. “You mean he wouldn’t be happy to hear a cute, perky cheerleader noticed his football skills?”

Dennis shook his head with another quiet, nervous laugh. “No, I don’t think so…” he looked towards the ground, twisting his foot into the gravel before looking back up with a small smile, “Just wanted to thank you again Doctor for your attention to my ankle, it healed in no time”

Robby chuckled and enjoyed the close proximity of the two for a moment. “It’s my job” he replied before offering a hand, “and call me Robby, Dennis.”

Dennis’s cheeks turned pink from hearing his name from the doctor again, surprised he had remembered it considering Robby had to have seen hundreds of patients a shift. Dennis extended his hand to Robby’s, gently shaking while the older of the two gave his hand a squeeze.

“I hope I don’t see you back there” Robby teased with a wink, making Dennis laugh and pull his hand back, feeling the touch linger until the twos fingertips were no longer in reach of one another.

“You never know…” Dennis teased quietly before starting to back up, realizing his son was probably going to be there any moment. “Well uhm… see you around…” he gave Robby one last nod and sheepish smile before turning and quickly walking away. Dennis had to focus on not looking back, already missing the doctor’s face.

As Robby watched Dennis walk away he chuckled under his breath, pulling out another cigarette and lighting it. “what id do to that boy…” he murmured as he breathed out the smoke. He shook his head to himself before looking up at the sky, hoping a higher power would reprimand him for his thoughts.
