    Summary

Sunday was not supposed to be alive.

He had known for a while that his life would be short. It had been planned, spoken over, turned like a dead animal to show maggots of terror and desensitized.
His father had made sure of it.
It was always known that his life would be short.

There was just no way to survive, after all. The resurrection would cost his head, one way or another.
He would not be joining his sister in that infinite oasis, no. Sunday would remain in a chassis of metal, devoured by an undead god, never to sleep, to be rendered into blood and fat and offal that would lubricate endless gears and pistols until his form was crushed into molecules too fine to recognize.
He would die, then, and his useless, revolting body would be the coolant for divinity.

    And if the machine failed.

He would die anyway. Falling from a shell with both wings pinioned, by his father and by his own hand, and he would spray across the golden floor in a final note of nihility, a painful red and white and blue firework in a sky of metal.

    Sunday was meant to die

    But he didn't.
